  1. When I tell the consultants at the bridal shops that it is a destination wedding they steer me towards taffeta and organza gowns, they said NO SILK since it is really hot and silk will show sweat if it is form fitting. I don't want a heavy gown just because it will be hot but I do not know the style... I love so many traditional but I love the beachy ones too! how do you decide?
  2. wow they are beautiful! I sent a request to Divine Light right after I saw them! If you don't mind how much were they?
  3. My FI almost choked when I told him how much bouquets would be for my 8 bridesmaids... so unless Costco is there I have to figure something else out... I LOVE FRESH FLOWERS!!! I want them so badly but when it boils down to dollars and cents, it makes no sense to get them from the resort :-(
  4. yeah all of those dresses are from Macys, the bridal salon is on the 8th floor, it took some time to go up all those escalators, we went to Bridal Garden then stopped there because we had time before the train. We didn't have an appointment but we made one for 20 min later and they were so nice and helpful. I am so confused about which dress! This is so much fun but everything looks so beautiful I cannot decide!
  5. I know! this is becoming an obssesion! My FI said to me yesterday as I was freaking about STD that I could just call the TA, tell her I want the sapphire package and then show up 3 days before the wedding and everything will still be fine. My sis (the MOH) said that she and my FI are going to send Facebook STD and go to Wal Mart and get a palm tree package of paper and write in crayon for the people who don't have Facebook if I don't calm down, lol! we used to work in catering and laughed at the brides who thought their day was the most special because in reality, it is only special to the bride and groom and maybe their family, but the majority of the guests don't care or remember all the details. I still want it to be nice though!!! I guess I better calm down before I get hand written STD, lol!
  6. I liked They all look better in person than in the pics. My problem is that I have a contemporary, a classic princessy, and then edgy look and I dont know what I want to look like bc I like all of the dresses. The halter top looks ugly in the pic but in person it fits the Cancun/beachy vibe b/c you think of someone cha cha cha-ing in it with maracas, lol! I also want to do a TTD so it is so hard to choose!
  7. I went to Bridal Garden and they had a lot of nice designer gowns for super cheap (Reem Acra, Ulli Maija, Monique Luhllier) but unfortunately I did not fall in LOVE with any of them. The lady said to try back in 6 weeks because by then they should have all new stuff. It is worth going to! I also tried Macys across from Penn Station. I LOVE 3 dresses, so I have to go back with my posse. They are all completely different, KarenK I know what you mean about it not being something you expected to pick out! Damaris- Is the bridal building worth going to? Is it more for veils and headpieces or do they have dresses there? That is surprising that Kleinfelds has cheaper dresses, I was under the impression they START at $1500 and figured those would be the ugly dresses, lol maybe I will try them. I def want to go to RK bridals.
  8. I am debating the photography issue too. David Pena from the resort shot some weddings on the forum and they look awesome, but IDK it is such an important decision! too many choices... Did anyone get pics of the new bouquet choices from your WC? I am anxious to see what bouquets go with each package so I can figure out if I need to get fake flowers or not. I am going with the Sapphire package but I want pink, orange, and yellow flowers. I want to know if they let you pick a bouquet still or if you have to go with one that matches their color scheme.
  9. I know what you mean about that type of bridal consultant... they think they know what you like and then they give you the granny dresses, lol! It is a laugh though, you have to look at it that way... I am more scared about picking the wrong dress though. I went with my mom and the bridal consultant and tried on a dress that I LOVED and she kept tell me I looked great it was gorgeous, then came back 2 days later with my sis and cousin and the exact words were: "you look like a parachute, or a sack of potatoes, it does nothing for you" so just DON"T LISTEN TO THE BRIDAL CONSULTANT!!! even if she tells you something looks good get a few other opinions!
  10. LOL! Thanks for that advice. I actually emailed this page of the thread to him so he can see... I had a feeling it would be very hot everywhere but especially on the beach. It also looks windy too... I just want everyone to have a good time and not feel uncomfortable. After reading what you all say we are definitely going to have an indoor reception! The outdoor ones look so pretty but if they are running to AC after just the ceremony there is no way they will want to stay outside to eat and dance! Next step is to find a dress that I will not melt in! lol! if it is that hot then I have to get something really light because there are some dresses that are so big and heavy I sweat just walking to get out of the fitting room!
  11. wow those are awesome! just think though if you were having an at home wedding you would spend that much on favors so it is nice to get something they could really use again!
  12. They are very cute! Someone in the US needs to start making them so we could save on the shipping, lol!
  13. I wanted to get a dress from David's bridal for cheap, but we found a dress at a boutique for $170 each. I have 8 bridesmaids and 3 of them were with me. I protested about the price but they all said they don't care. I think they will care when they find out how much the resort is costing!!! That is why I have not told the other bridesmaids how much it is yet...
  14. My FI has no idea about a wedding gift, and I am not going to tell him, lol! I plan on doing a BD book for him, but all I want is for us to have fun and the wedding to go smoothly!
  15. That is a great idea, I want something to incorporate my sister and I thought about putting a picture, but I don't know if having her on my bouquet will make me too sad... it is a hard thing to think about.
  16. When and where is this event? I am in NY too and would LOVE to go to something like that! The only one I know of is the Filenes Basement one in February, but I do not want to wait that long to get my dress.
  17. how much extra do the beach weddings cost? My FI and I are negotiating about this because I want the gazebo and he wants the beach. My concerns are that his parents are old, his sis cannot really stand the sun, and he sweats gallons even in 70 degree weather- so the gazebo has chairs and shade. He wants the beach and says it is our wedding so the guests can sweat a little. If we have a beach wedding in August around 5pm will it still be unbearably hot?
  18. Even if you invite those people there is a 99.9% chance they will not come. I am struggling with trying to get the people that I love and are really close to down there, so there is no way that a friend of my mom or dad would shell out over $2,000 to come to a person's wedding that they barely know unless they know me very well and really like me, which in that case I want them there! Send the good invites to the people who are close and you know will come, and cheaper ones to the guests that probably will not attend !
  19. LOL! I love that you incorporated eharmony! My FI and I met on match and it is this big secret... everything looks great!
  20. Has anyone tried the "Dazzle Smile and Clean Whites" that jstinemari talked about in the recession post below? I want to get white teeth but my dentists treatment is $300, I have crest whitestrips and a year to go but I don't want to a)damage my teeth and get signed up for something like those trials that I cannot get out of, lol!
  21. I am not from a borough... I am from Long Island but I thought I would stop in and say hi. I am getting married next August in Cancun at the Moon Palace. I know what you mean, I did not want typical Russos on the Bay either, even if I could afford to have it there! lol I worked at the Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage and I could never have a wedding like that EVER!!!!
