  1. I never thought I would be happy to leave home and go to work! Thank god there is air conditionning! We just bought our home in March, and it was sold as a home with central air, and the inspector wasn't able to really check the unit in the middle of winter so we assumed it would be fine since it was advertised as such. So we weren't worried about the heat, just set up the central air and set the temperature and forgot about it. Hahah, turns out the unit never turned on and it was just the furnace fan blowing room temp air around our house! And, it's impossible to get a repair man to our place anytime soon! Sooo, we slept in the living room the last two nights on the floor, since its way cooler than the bedroom....yuck! We blocked our poor puppy in the basement today to force him to stay cool since he has been panting for 3 days....plus, he's totally off his schedule since he doesn't understand why we are sleeping in the livingroom! We are praying for relief from the heat!
  2. Oh yes, that is definetly something we've all heard. We've begun answering that we have chosen to do a DW instead of a wedding at home because a) it was something both of us always wanted to do and instead of spending $40 000 on a wedding in our city, we would rather put it towards the house we just bought. To us, a DW is an experience to spend a week with family and friends who are there to be with us and celebrate. An at home wedding is what some people envision for themselves as the perfect day, but it has never been what I dreamed of for my wedding. People don't really know what to say. Even my dad made a comment about it being my choice to do a DW, as an excuse for not coming to the wedding! I think you just have to be secure in your decision to have a DW and then the comments won't sway you...I have no doubt that we are doing what is right for us.
  3. Thanks guys...I appreciate the positivety. I do have an amazing brother, and because we've been through the same experience with my father, we have an incredible bond. I wish I could talk to my dad, but I'm so hurt that I don't have any desire to communicate with him right now. I need a bit more time and we'll see what happens closer to the date. We are happy for my FI best man, but he's is major shock and they aren't in a position to bring a baby in the world today, so alot will be changing for them in the next 8 months...it is blessing, he just doesn't know it yet....his GF was born to be a mom, in fact, we took a trip one time and I jokingly called her 'mom' the whole week b/c she was super prepared and even brought us healthy snacks on the plane - hahaha.
  4. Love it! That is exactly what I was looking for for my BMs
  5. So, this week has been a bit tough for my FI and I because 2 bombs have been dropped on us, that although we should be happy for these people, we can't help but be bummed for ourselves. First off, I have a MOH and a BM, my two closest friends in the world. My BM lives in Edmonton (other side of the country from Ottawa) where she just moved last fall. So a little difficult coordinating certain things such as BM dresses and such, but not the end of the world b/c it means so much to me that she'll be there with us on our wedding day. My MOH lives in Ottawa, but she told me last week that she will be most likely moving in October to follow her BF out west to Vancouver when he gets placed there for work. She is excited, but I can't help feeling like it's really going to make the last few months before the wedding very lonely and stressful without my best friend in the world right there to help. Especially b/c she is a Project manager by nature and is taking her role as MOH very, very seriously...requesting that we have formal meetings to sort out all the to-do's...she makes me laugh, because that is sooo not in my nature to stress over it. So this started it. Then 2 days later, my FI bestman finds out his GF is preggers (major surprise, and totally unplanned) and she's due at the end of January aka during our wedding week....So, he won't be making it, although my man is hoping the dates are wrong, and she'll be due earlier so that his best man can still make it...so bummer #2. Then this week, we've had a couple of our close friends tell us they probably won't be able to be there, even though they had originally told us they were, b/c of various reasons which are understandable, but still dissapointing.... We knew that when we decided on a DW (which I always wanted to do) that some people weren't going to be there, and that some people would say they would be there will later tell us they couldn't...but it still sucks when there are people that mean alot aren't able to come.... I'm sure I'm not alone, and everyone has probably encountered this sort of thing, but it still sucks... We are blessed to be having alot of family coming which is great, so it will still be an amazing celebration. Which brings me to the fact that my father has told me that he won't be there either...this happened about 2 months ago though... He told me that he can't afford to bring his family so he won't be able to make it. His family consists of the woman he married 6 months ago (3rd marriage by the way), which I was told about 1 week before the day and obviously went cause its my dad, and her 4 kids and my 1/2 sister from his second marriage (she's 10 years old)...we'll guess what, I don't need 'his family' there, just mine...aka him and my sis. My brother told him just that and he was speachless... We haved a strained relationship because of the way he chooses to live his life, but I would have still wanted him to be there....his loss I guess... Anyways, thanks for listening to this incredibly long rant....I feel better.
  6. Hey! We're getting married on January 28th, 2009 too! We've sent out our invites (included in the envelope was the travel info and travel agent contact info) and skipped the STD because the deposits are due on June 30th so those people who know there going need the info asap. Our agent has blocked 20 rooms and 40 flights for us until the end of June, and any rooms/flights that aren't booked will be released in July. We sent out about 75 invites, to about 140 people. We are expecting 40 people from the preliminary calculations, but everyday we hear of people we thought for sure are coming aren't able to anymore, and those who were not coming are now making the trip....so we'll have a better idea when the deposits are in, but I know there are going to be some last minute bookers...so I'll probably know the final number the week before. We have booked our room for 2 weeks and put down our deposit back in March. I am going dress shopping for the first time next Thursday with my whole crew - mom, grandmother, MOH, MIL, and my brother's GF. I put my MOH on the case to find a dress she likes. I don't really care what she and my other bridesmaid wears except that it needs to be aqua/teal and I have to approve the final choice cause I'm paying for it. We've looked for wedding bands, but no decision yet. That's it...that's all I've done...I feel so behind compared to you other January brides!
  7. 1) Canada 2) United States 3) Mexico 4) Cuba 5) Dominican Republic
  8. Sunday - 1 hour of yoga Monday - 1 hour of weights Today - No workout - going to go see the Sex and the City movie!!! So excited!
  9. Feel better! Don't worry about the gym, focus on resting and getting well. I had double pneumonia a few years ago and ended up hospitalized because of dehydration. My advice, try to drink as much as you can, and sleep as much as you can. Get well soon!
  10. If anyone has any pics that the planners have sent them or the flower options or of the beach cermony location I would really appreciate it. I need help visualizing the whole picture...

Oh xandrafaye you are going to have a blast whitewater rafting on Sat and its an amazing workout! You'll be exhausted Saturday night! I live in Ottawa and we went rafting 2 years ago at Wilderness Tours (one of the companies offering it) and I was so sore in my upper body and abs the next day because the harder you paddle, the more fun it is. But beware, the river is still cold at this time of year, so if you have a wetsuit top, wear it! Monday - Yoga 1 hour Wednesday - 1 hour full body weights Thursday - 30 minutes elliptical, 25 minutes treadmill walk/run, plus 15 minutes of core/ab work Today - day off Tomorrow - 1 hour of weights plus some cardio
  12. I too am in the minority, I make more than my FI by about $15 000 annually, so it's not a huge difference take home, since taxes hit my salary a bit harder than his.

And I swear, I wanted to try on almost every second dress I looked at! And I'm a bit picky! Definitely go try the place out. Also, you don't need reservations to go - just show up! Thanks so much! I've heard of it, and although I haven't been shopping yet, I was planning on heading to a bigger store or out to MooseCreek mall. Now that I know that the dress is there, I may have to just swing by on my lunch break or something....Thanks again!
  14. Congrats! How exciting!!! Although moving and settling in is exhausting, sitting in your new home for the first time is an amazing feeling - enjoy!!
  15. I have a pisces symbol (Feb 22) on my low back that resembles the ying/yang my dad has on the back of his shoulder. His ying/yang is a blue fish and a red fish instead of the typical black and white. My pisces symbol is in turqoise and is slightly bigger than his tat. I got it when I was 18, but even then I knew I wanted it to mean something so when I was old and wrinkled I wouldn't regret it...I want to add to it, but I don't know what...any suggestions?
  16. I think that if you offer the resort info to your guests (whether it an AI or not) you are doing alot of the work for them. Many will appreciate not having to pay anything when they get there for food, drinks, etc. You are doing many of them a favour as long as you pick a resort in a reasonable price range. There are going to be guests that feel they can get a 'better deal' on their own, but often the group rates are pretty good, and for most of your guests, they also want to be a part of your experience/vacation for the whole week, not just the wedding day. Let the deal searchers know that there is a cost to spend the day at the resort and they can decide if they want to stay elsewhere. I told my guests that we are inviting you because we would love for you to be there and stay with us, but we are not expecting anyone to be there.
  17. I work as a Case Manager for a large disabilty insurance company helping our clients get back to work after being off for injury or illness. I assess their medical info and what they are able to do functionally (can they walk, sit, stand, squat...etc) and recommend when they should go back, do they have to be accomodated. It is great to work with a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals (kinesiologist (like me!), nurses, physiotherapists, chiropractors, physicians etc), but its hard working in an office at a desk when I'm used to working in a physio clinic and in the gym. The pay is way better than working in a clinic or gym though, so I can't complain. I make $50 000 plus stock options which is another $5 000 a year
  18. OMG! Do we live with the same person? I have one of those at home too! He says he's 'afraid' of the dishwasher so he'll put his dishes in (sometimes) but would never dare turn it on or empty it unless I asked him. He could care less about where he finds his clothes, in a dirty basket, off the floor or hung on a hanger..its all the same to him!
  19. I love the dress! That is exactly what I was looking for! I'm in Ottawa too - what boutique did you go to to find it?
  20. So this morning I was sleeping soundly in my warm bed when my 8 month old boxer puppy, Bailey, started whining at our bedroom door to get out of the room. He usually has to be woken up in the morning when I go downstairs at 6:30, but since he fell asleep early last night, he hadn't been out since about 8pm the night before and I guess he really had to go! My FI got up and took out to the backyard to do his business. Bailey came back in and started garbelling down his food and water. My FI was half asleep so he was trying to get him to come back upstairs (we keep Bailey in our room at night, cause he tends to get into trouble when he's not supervised). So Bailey inhaled a bit more food and water and ran upstairs to my FI. He jumped into bed with us, and wouldn't lie down. I guess he was ready to play, and he's jumping between our pillows and the next thing you know, I hear him burp and he upchucks his food and water on me!!! Thankfully it is not on my face, but it was on my chest and on my side of the bed! I was freaking out yelling for my FI to get me something to wipe myself down because if I moved it would have gone everywhere! Of course, he was laughing and moving sooo slow, but finally got me something to clean myself up. Once I got cleaned up, I have to say it was kinda funny in a disgusting way because it was just the water and food undigested exactly as it went in! Sorry to be graphic, but it's part of the descriptive. I figured that I guess I was getting up a half hour early today since I couldn't get back into bed, but man was that a sick way to wake up! I told my FI that although people say that pets aren't like kids, this puppy is definetly preparing us for parenthood!
  21. Congrats! Have fun planning!

    Hello All

    Welcome - happy planning!
  23. This week: Mon - 1 hour dance/cardio class Tues - 1 hour full body weights, focused on upper body - chest, traps, bi's, tri's and delts Wed - 1 hour of yoga for stamina and strength Tonight - 1 hour of cardio - haven't decided what
  24. As a kinesiologist and exercise physiologist, one of the most common questions and biggest complaints is the 'pooch'...unfortunetly, genetics plays into to some degree. Everyone will have areas that are more likely to hold onto any fat you have than others. It is impossible to 'target' fat loss, the only way to lose fat is to burn more calories that you consume and your body will burn fat for energy - but it decides from where! Bummer, I know! Weight training is crucial because apart from toning, the more muscle mass you have the more energy you burn. So keep targeting your tri's and abs! Increase your cardiovascular and high energy activities while maintaining your weight training routine. Sometimes you need to shock you body into shape - so try something new that you haven't tried before so challenge you cardiovascular system and muscles in a new way. Try spinning to burn more calories in less time (super intense workout) and try swimming (backcrawl) to target your triceps in a different way as well as tone your entire body while challenging your cardio. Good luck!!
  25. I have done the masking tape thing too in the last two moves and it helped sooo much! Before you have a chance to unpack everything and you need to find something its nice to know where you can start looking. As far as clothes go, whenever I move I go through my wardrobe and get rid of anything I don't absolute love and wear, doesn't fit, is worn or torn and the same goes for the FI (although he seems to think that some of the T-shirts he wore in college to workout in are still 'good' as he calls them...). We donate it all and it feels good to look at your closet and know that everything in it I love. I try to keep that mantra when shopping too and it puts things in perspective when the thrill of the shop gets to me.
