  1. We hosted our engagment/house warming party on Saturday July 19th in our backyard as a casual drop in, open house, BBQ sort of thing. We had a great time, but for some reason my FI never managed to be next to one another for a pic =-( Here are a few pics... My good friend Val on the left, me in the middle, and my maid of honour, Justine, on the right Jamie (FI) and his friend Joe My brother and his GF (also one of my bridesmaids) My cute hubby-to-be with his dad Me squinting into the sun and my FFIL Bailey attacking the ballons post-party

We happened to have our camara, but he sat like that for close to 5 minutes - all upside down! He hasn't done it since, but every now and then he props one of his back legs up and it looks like he's bracing himself....Can't help but love that face!
  3. We have a 10 month old boxer puppy who LOVES the car! He has been a road warrior since he was a wee 6 week old pup. We bring him virtually everywhere and he is usually normal....until the day I looked back in the rearview mirror and this is what I saw.... Hahaha - I just had to share....What a FREAK!
  4. Thanks guys! I was nervous throughout the DIY part of the project, but I was really happy with the final results.

  6. I sent my invitations out back in May (we opted out of STD), so these pics are long overdue. Originally, I had planned to order my invited through a local invite store, but when I looked at the design I was completely uninspired by what they had to offer. I ended up buying the stock and envelopes from the Martha Stewart collection at Michael's because it was exactly what I was looking for. I had my graphic design friend offer to create the design and then when I tried to get it printed at a local print shop, they couldn't get the colour of the ink to match the robin's egg blue trim. I decided to give it a shot at home and it turned out perfectly! I printed all 80 invites at home (feeding each piece of cardstock through the printer b/c it was too thick to feed properly) and printed the address and my return address on clear labels (I have brutal handwritting and I was in a rush) Finally, the pics! The invitation station as I called it while this project took over the dining room The actual invite The invitation insert (dates, time, cost, contact) as well as the TA's business card - I mounted the business card on teal cardstock and punched the palmtree out of the same paper and mounted it using gluedots The invite with the information insert The invite with the envelope (I love that it is lined in the blue!) The invites labeled and stamped to go!
  7. I should add that our city is adding a green bin (for veggie waste) just for this reason in the next year or so
  8. Yari I don't think that's dumb! The house we moved has a compost container in the back, but neither of us has ever composted so we aren't sure what to do with it. I remember using worms in elementary school to compost?!?!
  9. I voted for #1 b/c I think with the alterations and steaming it will be beautiful on you. #2 is very flattering too, but I don't think it's as special
  10. I need help figuring out where I want to host my AHR in Ottawa! I am looking to do it any time between Feb and June 2009 and I don't want a traditional reception hall in a hotel/conference centre. We are not planning a sit down dinner, more of a cocktail and dancing sort of shindig starting about 8pm. So far, I've thought of a few restaurants, including the new one at Dows Lake, the Monteray Inn (I love the stone walls in the dining room), and an outdoor location, like the huge yard at my parents new home, with a tent. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Yep- I'm a Goodlife member and it's the first time I've been a member at a gym where spinning is included in the membership! I want to take advantage of everything they offer. I am addicted to BodyPump and BodyAttack is a killer workout, so now I have to try the RPM (spinning) classes to keep motivated! Quote: Originally Posted by Amy&Andy I love spin! My gym offers 6am classes, but I don't know if I could drag myself out of bed for it! I'd love the energy burst in the morning though!
  12. We are a talk 2 times a day, spend most of our free time together sort of couple. We enjoy keeping each other posted during the day, and relaxing at night. We do usually spend one evening on the weekend in, and the other out seperately with friends. He plays hockey an evening or two a week, and I work out 3-5 times a week, so we have our alone time too. We used to be long distance for 2 years, and it is much easier for us to stay healthy and connected as a couple when we spend face to face time. I notice more of a communication gap when life gets busy and we see each other less. We have a balance that works for us better than it has ever worked in the past. He's my best friend, so I love spending time with him, but we are both independant and need alone time and girlfriend/guy time too.
  13. Hey girls! Since I joined my new gym in April, I've wanted to start spinning because they offer about 20 classes a week, I've never tried it and its an amazing workout. At first, I told myself I needed to train for a while to get back into better shape. Now that I am actually in better shape, I need the motivation to get on the bike and get over the fear of getting my ass kicked in Spinning class! Please help with some inspiration to get me on the bike!
  14. I love MAC products but they do charge to do a make-up application and buying all the product would add up, so you have to be sure that you want to go with MAC before you commit to the make-up application. The other thing is, the people who work there tend to wear so much make-up (as in, it looks like stage make-up) so I don't know how well they do natural... They are really helpful and knowledgable if you just want ideas -so maybe just stop in to the store at Rideau and then try Sephora too to compare. I think that is probably what I'm going to do in the next month or two.
  15. OMG - Love it! Looks great on you! No wonder Andy smiled when he first saw it! PS- Those are some huge fish!
  16. I live in a neighbourhood in Ottawa that I am relatively new to, despite living in the city my entire life. In March we bought our home and moved to Nepean (formerly a community outside of the City of Ottawa, which ammalgamated a few years ago). We are a 15 minute drive from downtown, 10 minutes from the Canal (longest skating rink in the world), surrounded by restaurants, stores and nature. My street faces a ravine and a waterfall which I think is kind of neat to have right in the heart of the city. We find our neigbourhood a bit more suburban than we're both used to, alot of dog walkers and baby carriages, but we love our home and will be perfectly suited when we start our family in a few years. We didn't want new construction because most new homes are on the outskirts of the city and we really wanted to stay in town. Plus the lots tend to be alot smaller with little or no yard. We have a 25 year old home, that offers a large private backyard and tons of space inside. Our neighbors all seem pretty nice, they even have little block parties every few weeks. The thing is, the average age is about 20-40 years older than us, so we are waiting for younger couples to move in.
  17. Someone mentioned a while back, but every time I go to the states I notice I can never find All Dressed chips - my absolute favorite!
  18. Those are great! I'd love to receive one if I was in your bridal party!
  19. Aww...I know that I would be devestated if my dog passed away, so I empathize with you. I always wanted a hedgehog for a pet growing up, so I am glad to know that he was such a special pet.
  20. The first time I went shopping was not a great experience for me. I went after work all stressed and tired, and the shop wasn;t pleasant. My advice, go shopping with the intention of having fun and don't expect to find 'the dress'. The second experience, I was relaxed, well rested and tried on anything and everything. I spent about 2 and half hours trying on dresses and ended up finding 'it'! I would not recommend more than that cause I was exhausted by the end! I also advise wearing modest panties...I wore lace boy shorts, but then the lady had to measure me for the dress I was ordering and got down on her knees in front of me to measure my hips and all I could think of was, I wish I wore solid (not see-through) panties! She was professional, but I was uncomfortable. Other than that, bring a strapless bra so you don't have bra staps showing. Nothing worse than a beautiful white gown with black bra straps! Good luck!
