I am having my wedding dinner there, I thought the place had a nice ambience and I really like their menu. There were a few remarks about the restaurant on my wedding coordinator's website (Playa del Carmen Caribbean Blue Weddings Home Page , testimonial section) that were positive, but aside from that haven't seen anything else besides general restaurant reviews that are all good. I'll definitely give my review after our wedding next month!!!

Check out the Quinta Real in Huatulco. We were there 2 years ago and just loved it! The town is very laid back and not at all touristy like PV, Cabo or Cancun, which is exactly what we were looking for. The staff and grounds at the QR were great. Welcome to the forum and happy planning!

Went to Huatulco 2 years ago and LOVED it! Very nontouristy and very laid back. We stayed at the Quinta Real and felt like movie stars with our own pool and great service! It is the place all the stars and dignitaries stay...we were there at the same time as the president-elect of Mexico!!!!

Malaria? (Long!)
superez replied to lyrebard's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Hi! I'm so glad you posted this thread! We are getting married in Playa del Carmen and having our elderly parents with us then for our honeymoon staying in Tulum and traveling to Akumal/Coba etc. So, being that I'm in public health (I'm a trainer/educator) I decided to do some research as you did on the CDC website! You're right, it's a little contradictory but that last paragraph made me realize that we just need to really be good about the prevention measures but not have to take the malaria pills. I traveled to Guatemala back in the 90's and I was the only one in my group who decided to be cautious and take the pills. It turns out I didn't really need them as we were sticking to the tourist routes, but man those pills made me SO SICK! I was so dizzy, nauseous, and tired that it started to affect my trip, so I stopped taking them. I think we'll be ok! Too bad we'll just be missing you in that area! We'll be coming back home the week before your wedding date. Good luck and don't feel bad about worrying abou this! Being in public health, I've convinced myself I've had all the tropical diseases - haha! Susan -
I let go of my wedding party...
superez replied to Golden's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I'm so sorry about all this unnecessary drama, but actually this is going to be for the best! I am not having a bridal party and seriously it's one less to have to worry about! Initially we thought of inviting FI's best friend and my bf to be our BM and MOH, but FI's best friend is falling off the wagon again and he and his wife argue at the drop of the hat in front of anyone and everyone, and I didn't want that drama at my small wedding! (6 family guests, that's it). Then my best friend just had a baby and her hubby is out of work, so in a nutshell it just made sense to be without a party at our DW. They will be our witnesses when we get married legally here after we come back, so they will still be a part of the celebration and our AHR afterward. Don't worry, it'll all be fine and you're not alone!!! -
Hi Kelowna Sara, I am working with Irene from CBW too and was also concerned when I read Monicaswave's post! But if my experience is any consolation to you, I've been working with Irene (and Francesca) since January and so far my experience has been fine. Irene always responds to my emails quickly and basically whatever I want, she makes happen. I am having a catholic ceremony and although I have a feeling I am one of their first (or their first!) catholic weddings, I can't complain. They've been extremely supportive and helping me find the right info along the way. I still want to hear about monicaswave experience though! I still have 2 months to go and it's always nice to hear about these things just in case! Granted I have a smaller wedding party (only 6 guests) so this might be a factor. Keep in touch KS, I'd love to hear about your experiences with CBW and I'll keep you posted with mine, esp the wedding itself!!! PM anytime if you have questions! Susan

vendor tipping etiquette
superez replied to NABUMBAH's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Wow, love this thread! Our WC included all taxes and gratuities in her price for services that include her coordination, catholic ceremony, guitarist, trio during dinner, cake, flowers, and transportation. We are paying the photographer and restaurant separately. So, can you gals confirm this for me, I don't have to tip my WC or any of the vendors secured by her since it's included in the price. However, if we feel they did a stupendous job, we may give them an additional tip. Of course we'd tip our photog and restaurant. Did I get this right? Help! Thanks ladies!!! Susan -
Bienvenidos!!! We are getting married in the catholic chapel on 5th in PDC and our guests are staying at the Hotel La Tortuga - not on the beach but how can you beat $80 bucks a night! They are #1 on tripadvisor.com's PDC section. Check em out at Playa del Carmen - Mexico - La Tortuga Hotel-Playa del Carmen Good luck with your planning and congrats!

Premarital counseling?
superez replied to Agape Gems's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We ended up having to take a one-day marriage prep course since we are getting married through the Catholic Church. At first we were not looking forward to it and thought that since we have been together for 10 years we didn't really need it. However, we ended up thoroughly enjoying it and found it to be a very moving, spiritual experience that brought us even closer together. The good thing was that we found we are on the same page with pretty much everything (finances, communication, etc). So in a nutshell I would highly recommend it! -
Thank you so much DDiva for your Maramao review! I'm so sorry the staff issue created unnecessary drama for you at your welcome reception! They really do need to get their act together! But I'm glad the food was good and I'm sure your guests had a great time. I hope that you two enjoyed yourselves too! Where did you get married and have your reception? Congratulations to you two newlyweds! Susan

Thanks Paula and Monica for your comments! Monica, it's so nice to meet someone who is also using CBW! I know, the red and black chairs at Maramao are a bit funky (Irene had sent me some pics), but since I'm having such a small party I think it'll be ok. I would love it if you could pm me the pics you have from the other forum bride, I'd really appreciate it!!! So where are you getting married?? We are getting married in the small catholic chapel in town. Thanks again! Susan

Hi ladies, I'm having a very simple dinner (accompanied by a mexican trio) after our catholic ceremony for 6 guests in Playa del Carmen and my wedding coordinator has suggested 2 spots: Maramao restaurant on the beach at the Mosquito Beach Hotel and Casa del Agua in town but not too far from the beach. If anyone is familiar with either of these restaurants, or even better had their wedding dinners here, I'd love to hear your comments! I love the idea of being on the beach at Maramao, but we like the menu better at Casa del Agua. Maramao's menu is shorter and mostly italian. Here are some links: La Casa del Agua Restaurant Playa del Carmen Mexico hotels.com - WE KNOW HOTELS INSIDE AND OUT.® (no menu listed here for Maramao but it is shorter than casa del agua and mainly italian). Also, the Caribbean Blue Weddings website testimonials section has some pics of a wedding at Maramao...click on Carrie and Paul's 11.20.07 wedding link. Any thoughts would be very welcome! Thanks ladies! Susan

Argh, my hair is driving me CARAZY! I am soo tempted to get a body wave but am afraid my hair will look fried by the wedding in May. Plus I color so I don't want that double processed look. Are you guys growing your layers out too? I had more layers when it was shorter, but am letting them grow out too, not to be all one length though because that will drive me even more crazy. Love this thread!

superez replied to nueland's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Congrats on picking the photographer! Isn't it nice to get that checked off your list of to-do's and be excited about the quality of the work too! I too have picked Citlalli for our May 08 wedding and am very excited!!! I'll certainly share my experience and photos with you and everyone on the forum! Susan -
