  1. That's what I thought, but I was being hopeful that our local parish priest could sign our California marriage license, thus making it legal here in the US, once he saw that we got married through the Church in Mexico. I was being too optimistic - haha. Thanks for all your comments!!
  2. Hi brides to be! I am considering a Catholic wedding in Playa and I happened to come across Ajua Wedding's website. I read the following in their civil ceremony section...here it is verbatim: "For brides and grooms who are both foreigners and are having an official Catholic wedding, we ask you to check with your local parish priest to determine if you need both an official Catholic Wedding and Mexican Civil Wedding to be legally married in your country." I'm interpreting this as: our local parish priest may make the decision to legally marry us here in US based on this official Catholic ceremony in Mexico. What do you think? Does anyone have any experience with this?? This would be awesome if it's true! Susan
  3. Hey all! I'm a newbie to this forum and am looking for your advice and recommendations for wedding coordinators and locales! My fiance and I are still in the process of researching so we can figure out whether to have our very intimate DW in Hawaii, Cabo, Isla Mujeres or Playa/Riviera Maya! All of these places are great but we have a special place in our hearts for the Yucatan and would really like to get married in the Playa area. So far I've contacted Papillon Weddings (Juliette Franze) in Isla and am waiting to hear from Xcaret park, La Tortuga Hotel in Playa, and Yazmin de la Mora. We just plan on having either a simple beach wedding or might consider getting married through the Catholic church if it isn't too complicated (St. Francis of Asisi chapel in Xcaret or perhaps a church in Playa). The big all-inclusives aren't really are thing, so we are looking for a much lower key place. After our ceremony, we plan on just having a simple dinner (6 guests - parents, aunts and uncle) with cake and maybe hire a trio to play for us for a bit. Our elderly parents will be joining us, so it's not like we'll be partying all night long - hee hee. Any recommendations or suggestions you can throw my way would be very much appreciated! Also if you've heard anything about the coordination/services at Xcaret, La Tortuga, or Yazmin, I'd love to hear! Good luck with all your wedding planning! Susan
  4. Hi Dougsgirl! Nice to meet you too! And congrats on your wedding in Hawaii! Where are you getting married and who is coordinating your wedding? We have looked into A Paradise Dream Wedding and Precious Maui Weddings in Maui, and Beach Weddings Hawaii on the Big Island. We haven't made up our minds yet between Hawaii and Mexico since we are still waiting to hear from places in Mexico. How many people are attending and where will you be honeymooning? We will have only 6 with us.
  5. Thank you everyone for your warm welcomes and support! Any free chance I get I am logging on to this website! I am amazed and thrilled how much detail and how responsive everyone is on this site! This is exactly what I need to help me figure out WHERE we are going to have our wedding! I'll be posting some questions soon and look forward to more chatting with ya!!! Susan
  6. Hi everyone, and congratulations! My name is Susan and my honey and I are in the midst of trying to decide where to have our small and intimate (only 6 guests) destination wedding next year in May or June! We are debating between Hawaii (Maui), Cabo, Isla Mujeres, or Riviera Maya (Playa). I've been in touch with a few wedding planners to get price estimates and still waiting to hear from others. This is all very exciting to be doing something different than the traditional norm and I'm so glad I found this forum! I'm looking forward to sharing advice and tips. Wish all of you the very best in your planning, wedding and honeymoon!!! Susan
