    welcome and happy planning!
  5. Denise I feel for you - I know this is a really scary time. My mom went through the same thing in 2006. They found a lump, she had to go back for tons of tests - and then wait for 1 week. The wait was excruciating. The ended up going in and removing some of the tissue and it wasn't cancer.... honestly we are all thinking positive thoughts for you now. Keep yourself busy - you can always use us on the forum to help you keep your mind off of things!
  6. Mo I am truly sorry. I cannot imagine how hard this is for you guys. Know that we are all thinking about you.
  7. Congrats and have a fabulous time! Cannot wait to hear all about it (And see pics of course!) when you return!
  8. YAY! So glad that you have joined us and super pumped to have another PRC bride on board!
  9. I wonder if the insurance is a one time thing (i.e., would he have to get it each time he did a wedding at the Paradisus!?) I would way rather go with him - especially if the $300 is waved given that we would be paying $65 per hour to Swank... Keep us posted and I will keep working on FI for the 9th!
  10. YAY! Way to go BECKS! I tried to convince FI that we should skip a wedding we need to attend on the 8th of Aug and go to Mexico - somehow it didn't fly! I went back and looked at the DJ Policy Perla sent me - $65 per hour (4 hour min). It also looks like there is a charge for Power (WTF!?) "All suppliers shall indicate their electrical power needs with sufficient time to ensure that said power can be provided directly by the Hotel. In this case, fees apply as follows: 20 Amps $50 US Dollars per day 50 Amps $120 US Dollars per day 100 Amps $200 US Dollars per day 200 Amps $400 US Dollars per day" I am guessing that the $300 also applies for an outside vendor... seems ridiculous that it is going to cost another $325 + $300 + power (say $200) = $825 - more than the cost of Carlos - Pisses me off to no end... urghh.. And on another note - Perla has not been responding to my emails..
  11. those look great! Way to go on being resourceful and creative!
  12. That sounds perfect - We are getting married at 3:30 (keep in mind it's Mexico time) so likely around 4:00 - then some wine, food, pics and a party!
  13. Everything looks fabulous! All that yummy food is making me hungry for a nightime snack!
  14. Welcome! There is tons of great information - Maybe you can give us some additional information so to help narrow your search - are you looking for something that is kid friendly? Is one wedding a day only important to you? If you are thinking Cancun/RM/Tulum - think about how far from the airport you are prepared to go - some resorts are 1.5 hours from the airport in Cancun which may not be appealing depending on how long your guests are coming for. Once you start figuring out the 4-5 things that are the most imp (which you have obviously thought about) it gets much easier!
  15. Perla quoted me $2 for each additional chair and cover and $4 for each chair bow - Now I need to convince FI to do a site visit in September!
  16. OK thanks for that! I really like the chairs - does anyone know if we have to choose for ceremony and reception? I really like all those options - just add it to the budget! We didn't see the fabric book while we were there last year but thinking of going down in September for a site visit to wrap everything up!
  17. welcome! The forum is a great resource in helping to make your planning a little easier!
  18. I hear you on everything here! My TA is the worst business person I have ever met - useless, stressed out (umm hello this is your job!), disorganized, unhelpful etc etc etc. Essentially I have done all the planning arranging, assisting guests etc. we used her becuase she OWNS the travel company my FI's mom work's part time at - NIGHTMARE. Our package flight is now sold out - yeppers - eight months out. So now we are looking at a second option. In terms of rates, do not panic as this is totally normal and we went through the same thing this year and last year with FI's best friend who got married in Mexico too. We bugged our TA for 6 months - she kept saying 6-8 months before while in reality we got our rates in mid-January for a November 27 wedding. When I look on line I can book trips up to December 17 of this year - I would guess that by May there should be rates appearing - ours haven't fluctuated much from last year or since they were first released!
  19. Part of me thinks it is becoming more of an issue because as was pointed out in earlier posts - some photogs are down there 20-30 times a year and are known to the hotel and locals ..
  20. Here is my take for what it's worth! I was under the impression that Nationals of certain countries (including Canada and the US) can visit Mexico for up to three months without a visa but will need to be granted a work visa or permit to take up employment. If you are bringing a photog for a one time deal by law they are not "taking up employment" in Mexico. In my opinion, the problem arises when you have someone who goes down frequently to make a living on mexico soil - I can see how this would be considered to be taking up employment.
