    Hi guys,

So I was thinking about ways that me and my fiance can save a little more towards our wedding, and I thought I'd post asking about it.

honestly the small changes are easiest, and more realistic!  maybe skip that daily latte, at least a couple times a week!  no eating out more than once a week, or whatever you spend money on, just cut back a little.  no need to stay locked up in your house but just a little here and there can add up.

also, just put $50-100 in an account every month and there's your spending money for the honeymoon!

P.S. I am moving this to a more appropriate sub-forum.

My fiance is constantly leaving change in his pockets so when I do laundry I put it in a dish and let it collect all year.  I'm also a restaurant manager and sometimes I have to serve so any tips I collect also go in there.  Just rolled up all the change the other day and the total came to just over $900 for one year.  I've been doing this for a couple of years and each year that money goes toward something different.

We went through our house and had some things laying around that we no longer needed that were still in good condition so we sold them for money and put that towards our wedding.  Also, like AnnR said, just cutting back a bit on spending helped us.

My fiancĀ© and I opened a joint account as soon as we started planning a wedding. We have $600 each transferred from our individual accts monthly.

We are just "squirelling" money away wherever we can. He is still a student, but we planned the wedding to have a long engagement so we can pick up little things over time (hardly notice!), and save up more. Also, he is doing his co-op, which means he is living a couple hours away right now, and making some money (most goes to pay off some bills we racked up over the years, but a little goes to wedding too). Also, with him out of the house, I go out much less, eat much less (also good for dress shopping!), and spend less money on eating out and groceries in general. Even house bills go down! Obviously not a solution for many, but it is working as a temporary bonus to the sucky situation of having him away.

I am also going through the whole house room by room. We are having a yard sale in the spring and all money will go towards the wedding. I put a little bit every month in a high-interest savings account.

We used the wedding as an opportunity to have a frank discussion about our finances and draw up a spending budget, which I'm embarrassed to say we hadn't done despite living together for years. We took a hard look at our spending habits and set monthly allowances for things like food, housing and entertainment. Getting a solid handle on what we were actually spending was a great wake up call and helped us to recognize where we were spending too much. Now, we each make monthly automatic deposits into our wedding account, and we got that big pre-marriage money talk that everyone recommends out of the way. We also started saving very early in the process, which paying off. Good luck!

It started with $500 a month from both of us into a shared account - now it turned into that and any extra checks we get (mileage, gifts, taxes...etc) and any money we have left over for the month - gets transferred into that account as well - I will tell you that it has added up quickly :) I also get raises twice a year so each time I got one I upped my amount going into the account - It's tough but will be worth it in the end!!
