ashscho - WELCOME TO THE EDR THREAD! i can only imagine all the details floating around your head since your wedding is 3 months away. i don't know much about the chapel b/c we chose gazebo 55, but i've been very happy with valeria (coordinator) so far and i'm sure she'll make things much easier for you.

 

also ladies she just got back to me RE: liquor. looks like you can gave grey goose and bombay sapphire added to your private events at no charge. they also serve top shelf at all of the bars and restaurants. you just have to request it as they make the drinks.

Hello, Baglover21! Glad to be here! And yes, it is crunch time--for sure. Lol. I have gotten more information from this thread alone than I could've imagined asking my TA or WC. I'm supposed to have a call setup with Valeria next week, so hopefully we'll have some things ironed out by then.

 

I really would've loved to have gotten married on the beach--that's why I was so excited about the glass chapel at the Gran Caribe, but my FI is very Catholic, so here we are.

El Dorado Royale has several locations that are on the beach. Maybe you can ask them which ones are available so that you can get married on the beach. When were there we looked at all of them, but Baglover21 is right about Gazebo 55 being the best. We picked it as well.

The chapel is pretty too, but it is very enclosed compared to what you are describing at the other resort, and the altar actually does not face the beach. Only the doors leading in and out of it face the water.

Thanks for the info, Cross. My FI and I compromised when we started planning our wedding: we could do a DW as long as it was recognized by the Catholic church. Unfortunately, the church has very strict rules on getting married outside. They only recognize a marriage if it's done inside a church. Not necessarily something I agree with, but it's something that we've settled upon to appease him and his fam.

Although, with the hassle of the paperwork and classes involved, I am ready to throw my hands in the air and say "forget about the Catholic wedding." I believe you are just as married to one another and that God can bless your marriage whether you are married outside or inside a church as long as you are doing it with love in your hearts.

Just remember there is always going to be some kind of minor (or major) hiccup, so have fun and be true to yourself. I think we all get a little caught up in the details, and forget that planning a wedding should be fun! I know I am very guilty of this! And of course venting your frustrations is always a good thing. No need to carry the weight!!!

Hi Girls!!

 

We are getting married there May 6th and trying to finalize plans but still unsure about the best way to go... We want a reception for sure but not sure where. Someone suggested Tucanes. Does anyone know anything about that?

 

We also are doing the free package and dinner at El Cocotal. They do make you choose limited items from the menus for your guests. I'm also doing placeholders and cards for the dinner.

 

What is everyones schedule like? ie. We are getting married at 3 and then not sure.

Also, not sure about photography? We want longer then an hour for sure!!

congrats! a may wedding will be lovely. :-)

 

here is our schedule (our wedding date is august 7th):

 

ceremony: 6pm

post ceremony cocktail hour: 645pm - 745pm

reception: 8pm - 11pm

 

we are doing all private events. we're having a welcome cocktail party with dessert, a rehearsal dinner at la isla and the reception in the salon with the mexican BBQ. we have 70 guests coming so thought private would be best so we could have our own space.

 

i've heard amazing things about tucanes. we are having the welcome party there. i was considering tucanes for the reception but we have too many people. i think it can accommodate up to 50 folks so as long as you're under that number you should be fine to have your reception there. are you thinking of using el cocotal for your rehearsal dinner?

 

planning with valeria has been great. we mostly communicate via email and she's very responsive. managing a grp of our size can be interesting and i appreciate that she's helped to make it easier for me.

Yes, we are doing the free dinner at El Cocotal but unsure how to do the cocktail hr/reception.

 

Our ideal would be to have our ceremony at 3 pm, have one of the cocktail hrs. from 4-6, then dinner at El Cocotal at 6:30, then finally reception at Tucanes from 8:30-10:30 but with no food. That is what I can not get answered. We do not want food at Tucanes. We were just thinking of it as time to cut the cake, first dances, and dance.

 

Do you know how that works or if we would have to pay for both the cocktail party and Tucanes?

Who are you using for photography??

 

Are you making programs for the ceremony?

We put 200 down too but goes towards your wedding items. We are getting married May 6th at EDR and still have lots of decisions to make.

 

Communication has been hard. I have so many questions!!
