What's something you saw at a wedding that made you swear...

OMG! I am a caterer so I could go on and on and on with bad wedding stories!

I had one with an orange bride. The poor girl looked like an oompah loompah! She made me swear to never use a self tanner.

I had an outdoor wedding on the hottest day of the year. It took over 3 hours to take pictures! While waiting, her cake icing melted and it collapsed. She had live fish in her centerpieces that were literally cooking. I was filling up the bowls with ice cubes trying to cool them down. I swore to cap pictures at an hour.

At one wedding the guests were all supposed to release butterflies. Too bad most of them were dead or sleeping so the guests were just throwing dead/lethargic bugs up into the air (of course they had to come down!)

I woke up once, and my bf at the time said he got a call from a friend, that had asked to meet us for breakfast and to dress nice. So we meet up with them and we end up going to this house, where an officiant lives, and they are getting married!! No family was there, just us and 2 other friends. Turns out he was refused his canadian citizenship and they did it so he would not get deported....

After I refused to sign as a witness, we all went to a breakfast joint, ate and they went to work. Oh and we had to swear not tell a soul because the brides parents hate him!!

It was so unromantic it made me cry all weekend!

I also went to a wedding that served pumpkin bread and some kind of pineapple fluff. That was about it. My family all went out to Outback afterwards. We traveled 4 hours to get to that wedding which included an overnight stay. The least they could've done was feed us!
Kristy that sucks! Funny that you had to go grab food after the wedding..

It is something kind of out of your control but if it was my wedding I would've flipped out. When my FI sees me walking down the aisle I don't want him to be distracted by some other womans boobies.

We are having a sunset wedding at a private restaurant on the beach so hopefully we can avoid this kind of thing.
OMG this one made me laugh. That's like my nightmare.

That must have been super awkward. Glad you did your thing though. That's the spirit!

This one kills me! That's a horror.. I would die if someone "surprised" me with this sort of thing. WTF?

That is gross! Poor little fishies. Nice of you to ice em down Erin!

This is funny - and sad. I can just imagine everyone waiting for the butterflies to fly and they just fall. sad.gif

One of my managers just told me this story last week about his brother's wedding. This was eons ago (like 15 years ago maybe) when he was 22 and his brother was 25.

So the ceremony was at city hall, no probs there. After the ceremony (it was about 20 people) he says they are heading to The Keg for dinner. So my boss is thinking wow, that's pretty cool for a dinner. They get there, he says to his brother, any restrictions on what to order? And the brother says whatever you want! So he's like cool! Gets a really expensive steak, his wife surf and turf etc. At the end of the meal, you guessed it, everyone gets their bills! The brother's like oh, I wasn't paying for this, what did you think? My boss FREAKED because he was only like 22 and he and his wife just had a kid and couldn't afford a $200 meal!

WTF?!

I went to an older distant cousins second marriage. It was at a beautiful inn by a river. The ceremony was lovely. The reception was very small an intimate, but in the middle of it they call upon her son to present him his GED!!! wtf.gif in the middle of her wedding?? I could understand if maybe at her rehearsal dinner, or gift opening, but her wedding reception!!?? Then later the bride says to me, and I quote, "hold my drink & smoke...I've got to get these underwear off...they are killing me"!!! I kid you not!! DH still calls it a trailer park wedding!! LOL

The bride and the groom showed up about 20 minutes later and got married at the opening of the U of the table. We all just stood and watched. I had a new camera so I was trying out the video, they had a video camera and after the 'ceremony' they went to turn the camera and realized they never turned it on. So, their video is a very shaky, blurry 5 minutes from my digital camera.

This one and the one where the groom's head was hidden by the gazebo are my favourites wink.gif

I went to a wedding last year, that was in a little chapel. First it started super late like - 1 hour after the hour on the invite. The bride later told me this was so taht everybody is on time. huh.gif Then they get married, and THEN we RE-DO the WHOLE WEDDING, only in accelerate, without music, priest talking, readings or vows, to take pictures !! Yes even the wlking down the aisle of the whole party and the rings, EVERYTHING ! That was the WEIRDEST thing EVER !!!

I have another one... I went to a wedding in Tunisia (I lived there for about a year).

Well first, the wedding lasts a week ! Every day you have to go to something. And everything is SUPER BORING.

The day of the bride and her family : everbody is there except the groom. It's usually in the bride's house. The bride is sitting on a chair, on an elevated stage. By herself. Everybody else is at table watching her. Sometimes, somebody gets up, talks to her, shoots a picture and gets back to his seat.

There's a "band" "playing" Kuran surats. It's like having Church songs (not gospel) as your lounge music...

You have the hamman day (the best one) where all the girsl go to the hammam and you get the henne done on the hands and feet.

You have the groom day.

You have the legal day.

Best of the best, you have the wedding day. The last one. Same as above bis repetita : the bride and groom are sitting on big huge ugly chairs by themselves. Side by side, not even together. Promiscuity, blaaaa. I found a picture for you :

http://family.webshots.com/photo/100...l?vhost=family

Sometimes somebody comes to them, talks to them and takes a picture and goes back to their seat.

Also, it's muslim so, there's no alcohol at all !

And to that, the one I went to was in a terrible "salle des fetes" (like a big warehouse), and the foods was chips and sweets. Nothing else !

THAT was the worse wedding ever !! At least the double one was funny.

I have a good one, I went to a wedding last year with my FI...7 hours away from where we live.On the invitation it said the ceremony was set to start at 11am so of course we got there about 10:30 to get a seat and get settled before it began. It started off a bit strange because we were literally sitting in a hallway for the ceremony, outside of the ballroom. Anyway, we sat there, and sat there and sat there (meanwhile the grooms side of the family has filled their section and there is almost no one in the brides section). Than the wedding coordinator comes walking down the aisle, grabs the mic and goes "Alright, the wedding will begin at noon, we lied on the invitations so ya'll wouldn't be late" wtf.gif really....I was like you have got to be kidding me...so fast forward and it's like 12:15 and the ceremony hasn't started yet and most of us had been sitting there for almost 2 hours and the musicians they had hired have been playing the same songs for at least the last hour. Poor bride though, her Dad had an issue with his tux so that was why it was further delayed. FINALLY the ceremony begins and she is walking down the aisle and half of her relatives are sneaking in to get chairs..apparently someone told them it didn't really start till noon.

OMG...but it's not over. We go to the ballroom for the reception...where we all wait for another 45 minutes for the bride, groom and bridal party to come. After they arrive and everyone is starving they do all their normal bride and groom stuff the servers literally throw this really gross food at us, no alcohol and it's over. Whole reception was maybe 45 minutes.

By far worst wedding I've been to!

LOL... ok, I have to admit - I hosted a wedding about two years ago for friends, and did the catering... the whole wedding was a gift to them from DH and I as we knew that their financial situation wouldn't allow them to have a big blow-out. The 'reception/party' afterwards in my backyard was open to the neighbourhood... DH and I were totally cool with that as it was planned... but our only stipulation was that we hire a johnny to put in the driveway outside the fenced in yard.... :S

Ok... now everyone is laughing at me.... I just couldn't deal with having half the town tromp through my house drunk.... and possibly overflow the septic!

Ok... here is my contribution:

In the honeymoon week following our wedding we saw many many other weddings - the resort basically had a wedding nearly every day on weekdays. There was a bride near the bar - fully dressed, and looked great, whom I over heard her saying... "I drank too much champagne before the ceremony, and all I could think about during the ceremony was kissing and having a smoke".... WHAThuh.gif?

I double checked with DH to be sure I hadn't misheard... he concured - he heard it too!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
