What's something you saw at a wedding that made you swear...

OK, so my BF wedding was really interesting. She is amazing, just go with the flow. But, his family is crazy. One of the GM came to the rehersal but not the rehersal dinner becasue he claimed he didn't know about it and had plans... we got an invite in the mail with the rehersal and dinner info on it a month ahead of time.

Then, he only came to the reception for like 30 min. I felt so bad for my BF and her husband... but I said it was prob better that way. And, the caterers started serving the food before we got there from pics... so when they were introduced people were eating and hardly acklowleged them.

Like I said, good thing my BF is a saint and was totally in love and happy to be married, she was oblivious. I was pissed for her.

Well you guy had me cracking up. Esp the story ab the u shaped dinner/wedding.

The only funny weddings that I can remember is the one when I was ab 13 and in one of my aunt's wedding. She had a Mary Kay rep do our make up. This lady put so much make up on me that my cousin the gm (who was my cousin that i grew up with) didnt even know me when I walked down the aisle. (Yea the gm bet the bms in the middle of the aisle). When I reached him he just kept looking at me like do i know you. (Mind you this is in the mddle of the procession in the church). Finally he took my arm and walked down the aisle with me and my stupid shall kept falling down and with our arms locked and me hold this huge bouquet I couldnt grab my shall so all the pic have me walking down the ails with my shall dragging the floor. It was the pits. Also the dresses came from Shingar if you guys have that store haha.

The other one that I remember was a wedding of an older cousin who got married in this beautiful garden. It was a beautiful wedding. Then her reception was in a dark musty elks lodge. And get this they served crabs at the reception hahaha ridiculous.

My sister had a DW in Destin, FL and it was so pretty. There are a few things that happened in her wedding that I said I would NEVER let happen. 1.) She didn't have a professional photog, so she has NO good pictures from her wedding. 2.) In every single picture there is a guy (not skinny or good looking) in a speedo with a metal detector. We couldn't help but laugh, but still.

LMAO I'm SO scared there's going to be someone topless or in a speedo in my wedding photos. I'm making sure my photog (whoever that will be) avoids any nasty pics lol

I agree with hiring a professional. My middle sister hired a friend of the family's daughter who had just finished photography school and the photog let her younger cousin play with her camera the day before and broke the flash on her camera so about 90% of my sister's pics are dark and blurry.

This past summer I went to my cousin's wedding and was COMPLETELY ignored. My mother has one sibling, and it was his oldest daughter that was getting married. With only having THREE cousin's on your dad's side, and having them all travel over 1000 km's just to be there for your wedding, you could at least say "Hi, thanks for coming". My uncle came over and was SO glad to see the three of us, but my cousin didn't leave a place for our family to sit (There was 6 of us and we almost had to sit at two different tables on two different ends of the hall) and we ended up sitting with complete strangers who were very, VERY rude, we weren't included in pictures, and my Dad was so upset that we had spent so much time and money to show up to her wedding and got ignored that we left after only being there a couple of hours to avoid him telling her off lol I know that having a DW means that everyone will be travelling and spending a lot of money, and I plan on thanking each and every one of them with OOT bags, excursions, and personalized thank you notes after the wedding. I never want anyone to feel as left out as me and my sisters did.

My tip for future brides...don't have a black tie wedding if you a) can't afford it and B) have no idea what the definition of black tie is.

FH and I drove 5 hours to a black tie wedding about 2 years ago. The invitation stated the wedding was black tie, the ceremony started at 6:30, cocktails at 7:15 and reception at 8pm.

We drove all that way and barely ate anything all day because we didn't have time to stop and eat on the way and we wre expecting that we would eat at the reception. The ceremoney started on time and was the best part of the evening. After the ceremony (ceremony and reception were in a hotel) we went into the ball room at the hotel and found our table seating, there was nothing on the table except 2 bottles of wine and some centre pieces. The bar wasn't even open yet. So the bride and groom and the wedding party were off taking pcitures, we expected to receive our cocktail. Nope, nothing. Our table finished off 2 bottles of wine in 30 minutes and there was no more (the bar is still not open). Then there was an announcement that there weren't enough wedding favours, so if you didn't want yours, someone was going around to collect the unwanted ones to put on the other tables that didn't have any.

Then hors d'ouvers were served, but they were frozen boxed ones from the local No Frills, and there weren't enough to go around. The bride and groom finally appeared and had their first dance, then sat down and proceeded to bore us with an hour of speeches (still no bar and no food). After speeches they finally opened the bar and the dance floor. All the guests finally realized that there was no meal, so we all wanted to drink only to find out the the bar was cash bar, and it wasn't even a discounted cash bar. $6 for a beer $7 for a cocktail. I had no cash on me because I didn't know it was a cash bar, and FH and I were staying in the hotel. I had to run around looking for an ATM.

To make a long story short...too late, we had one drink each, no food, stayed for one dance, then went back to our hotel room at 11:30pm and ordered a pizza. Turned out, the bride hired a wedding planner and spent her budget on the wedding planner and decorations and ran out money so cut out the food.

Worst wedding I've been to.

Also, people clearly didn't get the concept of black tie. I thought FH and would be underdressed, because I just had a cocktail dress on and FH was wearing a black suit. Turns out we were over dressed! Several guests came to the wedding wearing Hawaiian shirts and sneakers!

I don't want to sound judgemental, but you can have a lovely formal wedding, without spending a fortune, you just have to know where to cut things out. Black tie wedding usually signify an all out formal affair, meaning dinner is included.

Ok so one of my best friends recently got married (shotgun wedding) and although I do not want to say bad things I would be embarrassed to have the wedding she did. At her mother-in-law's double-wide! There was folding chairs set up for the ceremony in the front yard. The the guests had to help haul the folding chairs to the back yard for the reception that took place under some tarps propped up as tents. With folding chairs, mis-matched tables. 2-liter bottles, pot-luck food, no photographer, no decorations. They put down plywood as a dance floor over the muddy grass and one of the groom's brothers played "DJ". There was no dress code, flip flops, tank tops, even some camo!

The part that bothered me the most was the kids toys, car parts and other misc crap that was left in the yard! Why not clean it up for the wedding? no clue! Then if it couldn't get any better, these folks decided to get up and sing and even though they were terrible, everyone else seemed to think they were great!

I about died.

I have to say this one sounds kind of fun! I love that they didn't really care and got up and sang. Sounds like they have spirit! I also would have put plywood down over the mud to dance.

But I'm a little weird.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
