AngelaGrace,

I do not see why you would have any issues with silk Flowers. You could always ask WC if you are unsure but from reading other post you should be fine

I didn't even ask the resort to see if this was okay. Is this okay to bring in my own silk flowers to use for bouquets??? I just can't see spending 600-700 dollars on 7 bridesmaids and 6 groomsman flowers.

Help!

@bruceg05,

I'm interested: From where and how are you getting bulk flowers? Are these live or silk?

I'm like you, I'm not into spending even $35/bouquet, $20/boutonniere extra. I've been considering using fans, but with the wind in July, I'm just not sure fans make sense.

Just wondering where you saw this guy's work, since you're saying he's so good?  Does he have a website, or did he send you his portfolio?  I already put a $100 depoit down with someone else, but if this guy's prices are so much less, it may be worth it still.  IF he's really good, that is.  Can you comment? thx :)

i too have a budget and consider it to be pretty strict..but i really wanted to capture the big day professionally...however, i didn't want to spend an outrageous chunk of change on a photographer or a videographer..at this rate, i'm not too sure the technology we have now will even be used in the future so i knew video was out..however, i do want professional photos.

so i searched far and wide.  luckily, i found an incredibly cost efficient, young photographer whose going to capture my big day.  his name is roan robinson and he came highly recommended by another jamaica bride on FB..his prices are so good, i booked him immediately.  i believe he's so cost efficient because he's building his portfolio so i like to think that one day is going to be among the IN DEMAND jamaica photographers and i got him at dirt cheap pricing because he was just starting out.

check him out...let him know Ms. Davis recommended him should you choose to contact him.  msnwink.gif

good luck and as always, happy planning!!!

I've seen the name of some travel agent or website that girls here have been recommending for good prices for MoBay.  I can't remember the name, and can't find it through all the posts.  It was a longer name, 3 words, and had Jamaica or Caribbean or some guy's name in it.  LOL, not sure if that helps, but either way, can you guys recommend anything?  My brother will be flying from CA.

I'm looking into getting them through Tai Flora, I haven't gotten a response yet, so I may call this week.  I really don't want anything complicated and expensive so my hope is that this option will turn out cheaper.  If that doesn't work, I'm going to put together natural touch flowers, something not flowery at all, or just pay the money for something super small and simple.  I think for groomsman though I will do natural touch, bouts in my experience get smooshed and stuff so I would rather buy something that lasts.  There is this place called wedideas that puts them together for decently cheap, so I will probably look into them.

he's new and on FB with a photo album of his work..now, he's NOT SAAB or Marcia (yet)..but he's good with lots of potential.  frankly, i went with my gut on this one and with an incredible recommendation from another jamaica bride...who has a wealth of photos from her big day on her FB page... if you're interested, i'll be happy to ask her if i can share her contact info with you and you can chat with her like i did.

i found him by scouring FB pages and checking our several makeup artists in Jamaica...his pics kept coming up so i contacted the bride who was in the photo and she was SUPER excited to recommend him...said he made her day even that more special and that he was such a respectful and eager young man.  here's a few of his pics.

fellow, BDW.com brides, my issue with photos is...THEY ARE SOOOOOOO EXPENSIVE!  and maybe if i wasn't feeling like iberostar is nickel and diming us...i'd spend the money of a photographer but, i'd much rather save where i can..have nice pics to document the day and keep it moving.  i simply can't justify the pricing..its funny because last year Saab wasn't nearly as high as they are now...AND even Jamaica Wedding Photogs were cheaper..i don't know if 2011 is the year of the wedding and so most of these photographers have gone up.

i will tell you, i found several photographers including Alain Hottat (who is an AMAZING photographer and on FB too) and he was like $1000 for 250 photos (his quote was for coverage of the entire wedding including: preparation, ceremony, after ceremony portraits of couple, family & friends, reception.)  he promised fully edited photos on CD and camera ready files for reproduction as well as access to an online gallery for family and friends.  some of alain's photos are below...

the thing is, i simply couldn't beat Roan's pricing and his eagerness which says alot.  he's incredibly responsive (which is a BONUS because most folks in Jamaica are on "island time") and willing to work with me.  i'll be able to tell him what i'm looking for...create a vision for him while he builds his portfolio...we've chatted several times on FB and he's really a nice young man.  like, i said, i'm hopeful that he'll blow up one day and be among Jamaica's 'sought after' photographers... he's definitely worth a look...here's one more pic from roan's FB album.

Wow! Hmm I wonder if it's too late to ask my TA for all these perks if I mention that this company does this.  I remember asking my WC at the Suites about it and she said "We do not offer FREE cocktail hours" and that was basically the end of the convo.  I also asked my TA about upgrades, but she said "Well, we have to wait til the very end to see how many rooms we have and see if Iberostar will work with us.  MAN, if I only knew about this company you're using. Good for you!!!! I have now 25 rooms booked.  The TA lowered the room rates here and there and threw in free transportation to and from airport but
that's basically it.

Ques.- Is your company charging you a service fee or they just making $ off your room reservations and air?

Thanks!!!!!

My FI and I are inviting everyone to the destination wedding that we would be inviting if we had a wedding back home. We are also surprised by the amount of people that are interested in coming in to the wedding; it's looking like 50-75 people joining us in Jamaica!!!

We booked a group rate (holding 25 rooms) through Beach Bum Vacations and they offered us great rates, plus amazing incentives for the Bride and Groom: for 25 rooms booked we are getting a free cocktail hour with hand passed food, welcome party, and 7 nights Ocean View at the Grand! I would defiantly look into group rates at the Suites with Beach Bum. Come up with a list of things that you would like Iberostar to offer you for free or reduced cost since you will be bringing 50-60 people to stay at their resort for your wedding. We made a tired list of incentives based on the amount of rooms that are booked i.e. 10 rooms booked free cocktail hour and 3 nights free, the incentives increase with every additional 5 rooms we book.  Keep in mind that you can talk to other TAs about offering you such incentives for a group rate for your wedding. Before we went with Beach Bum we had 2 other agents trying to get us the same things but they weren't successful.

Let me know if you would like Beach Bums contact info.

p.s. From your last message: my wedding colors are fuchsia, lime green, and orange with 6 bridesmaids, 6 groomsmen, with a flower girl & ring bearer (them and their parents will be staying at the Suites, kids are allowed to come over to the Grand if you are hosting a private event i.e. welcome party, rehearsal dinner, and wedding ceremony and reception)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
