When to change my name? Pre or post DW?

FI and I are having our legal day next week (3 months before our DW) due to insurance issues and such. So...do I wait to change my name until we get back from our DW or since I have plenty of time do it now? I have sent our TA an email to find out what the cost would be to change my name on our travel documents but have not yet heard back. What did you all do? I was kind of thinking about doing it now because I have 3 months now but when we get back from our DW I will only have 2 months before our next trip ( dont know how long it will take to get passport back with new last name). Thanks for all of your input! feedback.gif

I haven't sent my passport in yet, but have heard it takes about 3 weeks if they only have to do a name change.

I personally would wait, just to be sure. I don't know if the airline will charge you, since you are the same person and not a new guest.

We don't have our official marriage license yet but were still able to change some things, like insurance.

I would wait b/c your travel info is under your maiden name and they have to match exactly to your passport. But if your TA can change the names then maybe you want to get it done now. I just changed my name but I am not going to change my passport yet b/c I am taking a trip in Nov and want my passport to match the name on the tickets. KWIM?

i was just checking on passport name change since i need to do that now, it looks like 4 weeks to get it back after you send it. so you probably have time now. but most airlines will change the first name on a ticket but not the last name, so you might want to wait on that, since your name on your passport and ticket MUST match exactly.

Glad you brought this up...my fiance & I are deciding on the same thing. Thinking I am going to wait to change name on passport until were back from DW...my luck if i did it before something would happen & I wouldn't be able to even make my own DW!!! smile105.gif

Good luck,

Laura

You can change your name on your ID to submit it for work for insurance changes since they usually only allow you 30 days after the life change event to add someone to insurance. Do not change your name on your passport if you booked your airline tickets under your maiden name. The airport won't know that you changed your name on everything else if you passport name matches your tickets you will be fine.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
