Share your ceremony script!

Recommended Posts

I have to echo a previous bride, every time I think I have found the ultimate from BDW, something comes along to top it. Wow.

I had not thought about what my ceremony would look like. All I have to say is: Hand ceremony. Balling my eyes out reading these. In front of my computer. Yes, I am a loser. Omg, I love it. So, so, SO beautiful people!

First off, a huge THANK YOU to the brides who have posted their ceremonies before mine. As you will see my script literally has a piece of just about everyone's. Thanks again!

Welcome
Good afternoon. Today we meet in nature, surrounded by the beautiful ocean and blue sky. On behalf of the bride and groom, I extend a heartfelt welcome to the many loved ones who have travelled huge distances to bear witness to the promises that will unite Derek and Amanda's lives forever.
A special and respectful acknowledgment must also be made to those friends and family members who were unable to attend, or have passed on, but whose spirit remains alive and strong in all our hearts.

I have also been asked by Amanda and Derek to thank their parents for the wonderful lives that they have been given, for the hard work and guidance they have provided, for their everlasting love, support, and encouragement. It is from them that they have learned the true meaning of love, friendship and family. This is a beautiful and joyous occasion because it acknowledges their commitment in deep friendship and love.

We come together not to mark the start of a relationship, but to recognize a bond that already exists. Marriage is one expression of the many varieties of love, though it's probably one of the most accomplished.

"Before the two of you met, your lives were on separate roads ... each going in different directions and seemingly leading to different destinations. But somewhere along the way (through some twist of fate) you did meet, and you fell in love. Today, you find yourselves standing here together at the threshold of a new path, and have promised to forever join your once separate journeys into one.

Sand Ceremony
Your relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand;
Each representing all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be. They also represent your own sets of friends and families, that until today were apart from each other. I now ask that you blend these individual containers of sand together. Each color holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without the need of anything else. But when the two are blended together they represent an entirely new and extraordinary relationship. Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination, and in this way may your marriage be enriched by each other.

Exchanging of the Rings
At this time I ask those who are holding on to the rings to please present them:
The wedding ring, traditionally, is a symbol of the unbroken circle of love as it has neither a beginning nor an end.  These rings mark the beginning of a long journey together, wear them proudly, as they are symbols which speak of love that you have for each other. Derek I ask that yo now look into Amanda's eyes and into her heart. Please take this ring, place it on Amanda's finger and repeat after me:

I, Derek, take you, Amanda, to be my wife
my partner in life and my one true love.

I will cherish our friendship
and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.

I will trust you and respect you,
I will laugh with you and cry with you.

I will love you faithfully and unconditionally
through the best and the worst, the difficult and the easy.

Whatever may come, I promise I will always be there for you.

Amanda, if you accept please say I do…

Amanda I now ask that you look into Dereks eyes and into his heart. Please take this ring, place it on Derek's finger and repeat after me:

I, Amanda, take you, Derek, to be my Husband
my partner in life and my one true love.

I will cherish our friendship
and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.

I will trust you and respect you,
I will laugh with you and cry with you.

I will love you faithfully and unconditionally
through the best and the worst, the difficult and the easy.

Whatever may come, I promise I will always be there for you.

Derek, if you accept please say I do…

eariler I posted about changing the official ceremony script in a legal marriage.  Now I am married and wiser...

For those seeking a legal marriage but wishing to personalize:

We got married at the Azul Sensatori in Mexico and the Judge had no problem adding things before and after the "official script" he had to read.  The entire ceremony including his "legal portion" was entirely in English - as I requested.  Many people are incorrectly led to believe it is a requirement that a legal ceremony must be done in spanish in Mexico.

Ok I just finished a first draft as mine.  As Mandy said, i have to thank everyone on here who has posted their ceremonies. There were so many great ideas and vows, and I got everything I used directly off this thread.  I hope no one minds!

We are gathered here today to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, to give recognition to the worth and beauty of love, and to cherish the words which will unite Shane and Erin in marriage.

I now ask, who gives this women to be married to this man?  (Bob answers “Her mother and I doâ€)

Thank you Bob

Everyone please be seated.

Opening

On behalf of Shane and Erin, I welcome you and thank you all for gathering here on this beautiful day to witness their marriage ceremony. The fact that you all have travelled such a great distance to be here today is a testament to the amazing amount of love and support they have. Many of you have given them much happiness, love, warmth, and guidance through the various stages of their lives. They would like to sincerely thank you all for being here to celebrate their big day.

By entering into this marriage, Shane and Erin are stating publicly the feelings and commitments they have held privately between them. They are proclaiming their love for, their trust in, and their loyalty to the one they cherish above all others.

Shane and Erin,

You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. Along the way, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way.

All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks - all those sentences that began with “When weâ€re married†and continued with “I will and you will and we willâ€- those late night talks that included “someday†and “somehow†and “maybeâ€- and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart.

All these common things, and more, are the real process of a marriage. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “ You know all those things weâ€ve promised and hoped and dreamed, well, I meant it all, every word.†Look at one another and remember this moment in time.

Before this moment you have been many things to one another- best friend, companion, lover, ski partner, and teacher, You have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this- is my husband, this- is my wife.

Shane and Erin, please face each other and join your hands.

Vows

Shane please repeat after me:

I, Shane take you, Erin, to be my wife
my partner in life and my one true love.

I will cherish our friendship
and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.

I will trust you and respect you;
I will laugh with you and cry with you.

I will love you faithfully and unconditionally
through the best and the worst, the difficult and the easy.

Whatever may come, I promise I will always be there for you

Erin please repeat after me:

I, Erin, take you, Shane, to be my husband,
my partner in life and my one true love.

I will cherish our friendship
and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.

I will trust you and respect you,
I will laugh with you and cry with you.

I will love you faithfully and unconditionally
through the best and the worst, the difficult and the easy.

Whatever may come, I promise I will always be there for you

Exchanging of the Rings

The wedding ring is a symbol of the unbroken circle of love, as it has neither a beginning nor an end. It should always remind those who wear it of the sacredness of marriage and the love that feeds it.

Shane and Erin, your rings are intimately associated with your intent to honor and treasure the vows you have made today. By exchanging rings, resolve to live your vows and not to let them drift in shallow promises. Believe and trust that the words you have spoken have the capacity to create the marriage, family, and life of your dreams, and that the rings you exchange will have the power to return you to your vows.

These rings mark the beginning of a long journey together, wear them proudly, as they are symbols which speak of love that you have for each other….

Shane, as you place this ring on Erinâ€s finger please repeat after me…

Erin, I give you this ring,

as a sign of our marriage,

and a lasting reminder of the vows we made today.

I give you this ring,

as a reminder that I will love, honor, and cherish you,

in all times, in all places, and in all ways, forever.

Erin, if you accept please say I do…

Erin, as you place this ring on Shaneâ€s finger please repeat after me…

Shane, I give you this ring,

as a sign of our marriage, and a lasting reminder, of the vows we made today.

I give you this ring,

as a reminder that I will love, honor, and cherish you,

in all times, in all places, and in all ways, forever.

Shane, if you except, please say “I Doâ€.

SAND CEREMONY

Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand.

One representing you Shane and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be

The other representing you, Erin and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be.

To symbolize this union and the importance of the individuals within the marriage, two separate colors of sand will be combined. Each one holds its own unique beauty, strength, and character. They can stand on their own and be whole, without need of anything else.

Shane, pour some of your sand, which will represent you as an individual.
Erin, pour some of your sand, which will represent you as an individual.

Now, when these two are blended together they will create and entirely new and extraordinarily more intricate entity.
Each grain of sand brings to the mixture a lasting beauty that forever enriches the combination.

Please pour the sand together into this common container to symbolize the union of your two lives.

Shane and Erin, just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be a molding of two individual personalities, bonded together forming one heart, one life, and one family.

Pronouncement

Shane and Erin

OPENING

Officiate: Dearest friends and family, what a magical moment this is. Ryan and Denielle, in their love and passion for each other, now choose to celebrate their relationship by becoming husband and wife.

You may be seated.

THE GIVING OF THE BRIDE

Who gives this woman to be married to this man? (Tom says ‘Her mother, her sisters and I doâ€)

CEREMONY

On behalf of Ryan and Denielle, I welcome you and thank you all for gathering here on this beautiful day to witness their marriage ceremony. The fact that you all have travelled such a great distance to be here today is a testament to the amazing amount of love and support they have. Many of you have given them much happiness, love, warmth, and guidance through the various stages of their lives. They would like to sincerely thank you all for being here to celebrate their big day. A special and respectful acknowledgement must also be made to those friends and family members who were unable to attend, or have passed on, but whose spirit remains alive and strong in all our hearts.

I have also been asked by Ryan and Denielle to thank their parents for the wonderful lives they have given them, for the hard work and guidance they have provided, for their everlasting love, support, and encouragement. It is from them that they have learned the true meaning of love, friendship and family.

The marriage between Ryan and Denielle does not mark the beginning of a new relationship; rather, it is an acknowledgement and celebration, of a relationship that has been flourishing since they met.

You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way.

All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things weâ€ve promised and hoped and dreamed- well, I meant it all, every word.†Look at one another and remember this moment in time.

Before this moment you have been many things to one another- best friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this- is my husband, this- is my wife.

HAND CEREMONY

As an expression that you are joined together in love - will you please hold up your hands and hold one another, so you may feel the gift that you are to each other.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

VOWS

Do you, Ryan, take Denielle as your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward? For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish and respect her, forsaking all others, as long as you both shall live?

Ryan: I do.

Do you, Denielle, choose Ryan as your husband, joining today with him in spirit, offering your friendship and loving care? Do you promise to honor his growth and freedom as well as your own? To cherish and respect him, love and protect him, in times of challenge as well as times of joy?

Denielle: I do.

RING EXCHANGE

Ryan and Denielle, your rings are intimately associated with your intent to honor and treasure the vows you have made today. By exchanging rings, resolve to live your vows and not to let them drift in shallow promises. Believe and trust that the words you have spoken have the capacity to create the marriage, family and life of your dreams, and that the rings you exchange will have the power to return you to your vows.

Ryan, please place this ring on Denielle's finger and repeat after me. “Denielle, with this ring, I give you my heart and I promise from this day forward, you shall not walk alone. May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home.â€

Denielle, please place this ring on Ryan's finger and repeat after me. “Ryan, with this ring, I give you my heart and I promise from this day forward, you shall not walk alone. May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home.â€

The engagement ring is a symbol of promise and intention. Now the intention is realized and the promise fulfilled. Ryan, please place the engagement ring on Denielleâ€s finger over her wedding band to symbolize that the love that brought you together will always protect and sustain your marriage.

CLOSING

We who are present today, hope that the inspiration of this moment will never be forgotten. May all your days and years to come be filled with vision, joy and passion. May the love you now share continue to grow, and may the happiness you bring to each other be a continuing part of your life together. May you continue to laugh often and enjoy each other every day, steadfast in hope and confidence, believing in yourself and believing in each other. May your love be a sanctuary and a source from which you draw strength to live your lives with enthusiasm and imagination. May the people you touch in your lifetime know how much you love and care for one another and may you love one another forever.

With friends and family, I have the pleasure of announcing you as husband and wife.

You may now kiss the bride!
