I got married at Xcaret a couple of weeks ago and want to give my highest recommendation for Jhankarlo Photography--he was so so amazing! Here's why: Let me begin by saying that my parents left me behind at the hotel and that had it not been for my two bridesmaids, I never would have made it to the church! My Mom had left the hotel to get her hair done outside the resort and had an emergency but didn't tell anyone. My dress, veil and shoes were in my parents' room, my bridesmaid's dress and daughter's dress were also in there. Mom was nowhere to be found, dad was still in his swimming suit 15 minutes before the bus to go to Xcaret was supposed to be in the lobby. I was locked out! After waiting outside that room for almost half an hour, with my hair and makeup all done--and starting to melt--dad shows up. I ran inside, grabbed dresses, kid and shoes. Flew to my room to give kid bath and get her dressed. Dad was supposed to get on bus to make sure he's be there on time. Mom was supposed to drive me to the church. And so I was left behind. So you can Imagine how I felt. An hour later, I get a message from planner telling me my parents were at the venue already. My bridesmaid managed to get keys to our rented red Jetta from my husband as he was on his way out! Phew! When I got to the bridal suite at the church I was a hot, and incredibly angry mess in gym shorts and flip flops, hauling my dress and veil. I met Jhankarlo when I was almost in tears, and he smiled and said, "Everything's going to be OK. This is your day and it will be beautiful." He and my planner made sure I got the space I needed to have my tequila shot, calm down, and get into my dress. He was extremely professional and respectful, and took a few photos while I finished getting ready. As he took them, he showed me a few shots from his camera and they were incredible. He is not a commercial wedding photographer--he loves manipulating light and movement. And since our wedding was at night, the pictures showed incredible color and details that you'd never see anywhere else. Jhankarlo is an artist and loves what he does. Jhankarlo covered our wedding and reception for 8 hours! For me, having him there made the night so much fun! The music and happiness from our guests also allowed him to feel relaxed and he even got on the dance floor and took amazing pictures of all of us having a great time! The next day, he came to pick us up to do the trash the dress shoot. We spent the first part of the session at Xcaret and then went to the cenote for the water shoot. Photographing under water is much harder than you'd expect, but we all laughed a lot and the pictures that we saw from the camera directly were unlike anything we' d ever seen before. Jhankarlo will climb, turn himself over and will do just about anything to get the perfect angle so the shot comes out beautifully. The value we received from the package we selected far exceded the price and our expectations. We also gained a friend. Thanks, Jhankarlo! We can't wait to see our photos!

Hi Ladies! I really need to vent, and if anyone will understand it will be you. I don't even have to say this, we all know that when it comes to destination weddings, some people will be there and book without hesitation, some will say yes and not book, and some will not be able to attend. What I'm finding extremely difficult to process and understand is the complete lack of communication and respect my own family and "close" friends have for me and my fiancé. We get a group rate and reserve seats, give months of advance warning and in every reminder email I have sent I have expressed that they are more than welcome to make their own accommodations, however they may not get the same price or the hotel may not have room for them when they do decide to book. My booking deadline is next week. I have 6 people who have guaranteed me they will book by this date. One of my friends texted me to let me know she's booking on Saturday, she obviously didn't read the last email I sent where I let everyone know the agency is closed on weekends, it's no problem, she can call Monday, but then I thought, shoot - maybe I should let the others know. So I text one of my "close" girlfriends, she then asks me "do we have to pay by October? because I can't". No problem, you don't have to but there is a early booking bonus included in my rate and you will have to pay that if you miss the deadline and told her to feel free to look into other options. She then says "Your wedding is in April LOL, I don't get why we have to pay so early, I travel to resorts quite a bit and they're never sold out in April". Trying not to be rude I let her know that I am not psychic and have no way of knowing if the price will go up or down, and if the resort will sell out or not, all I did was negotiate a group rate and reserved some seats so my closest family and friends can hold their spot. My fiancé has worked in travel all his life, we did a lot of research before choosing this resort and date. The final straw of this conversation: I tell her, I get it, it is an expense and Colin and I need to have our payment in by October too. She says: Oh, you guys have to pay? I just thought you were trying to get a certain amount of people to book so you could get a free trip. It made me feel like I'm being perceived as a scammer and I should not feel like this when I'm trying to plan my wedding. Yes, sometimes we get incentives on trips if a certain number of people book, but if she was such a close friend she would have talked to me about how my wedding plans are going so far and realized I am no where near even getting one comp ticket. It doesn't matter to me, we are getting married, it's an expense, a comp would be a bonus but that's not the reason I arranged a group rate. I let her know that when we looked at this resort for 2015 a couple weeks before our dates it was sold out so she can take her chances, we ended the conversation by her patronizing me "Oh really? I've never seen that, must have been spring breakers. Woooo" And we agreed for her to look into other options. I'm at the point right now where I don't care. Do what you want. The other shocker in my current situation is my Dad's side of the family. He has 5 siblings, they all have kids and some of them have kids. I have always been close with them, they know my dad and I have always had a great relationship especially through my parents divorce and we have always stayed in contact. My Dad will be the only one from his side at my wedding. I understand not being able to afford it, and that is completely okay, but when my cousin got married in Nova Scotia, they all went. Another just got engaged that lives there and I'm sure they will all go. Some are even going down this summer. When I was trying to collect their addresses for my invites it was so difficult, then I send the invitations and I don't even get a reply, nothing to even say they can't make it. This really upsets my Dad, so he who is scared to even use a computer posted a FACEBOOK message to his family. No one responded. So now he's calling everyone individually, and as the declines roll in, I'm not upset, I'm upset with those family members who my dad has spoken to and they still haven't contacted me, and those family members who he is chasing down, he shouldn't have to chase them down. He had planned to share a room with one of my cousins, my cousin has ignored every phone call from him, every message from me, but told other family members that he can't commit right now and will probably book later. Why couldn't he tell one of us that? My dad was left to find someone to share a room with and luckily a friend of mine from elementary school needed a room-mate. It makes my Dad really upset, which is not fair to him. Trying not to let it bother me and focus on the fact that we have 32 of our closest family and friends from Canada and the UK with their deposits down. That is more than I could ever ask for. Thanks for letting me rant

Hey! I am not sure how the forum works, but I am excited about sharing and learning about planning my wedding. In the beggining I read about my profile but I cannot find it back!

I have had a minor hiccup in planning today. My cousin who was suppose to be my photographer has decided to go to Europe with her friends instead of our wedding. This left me in a bit of a pickle considering she is a photography student and this was going to save us ALOT of money by letting her do the photos. Any other Cabo brides out there please help share you photographers and their info?? I need to start comparing so I can try and work this expense into our budget now. Thank you

We have decided on October 10, 2016... what is your special day in 2016 ?

Our Las Ventanas destination wedding in Cabo was a dream come true. There was no detail left undone, and our photographer Juan Carlos was there to capture every priceless moment! He was wonderful to work with and we chose him because of his unique artistic eye. We wanted pictures that captured the emotion of the day. When we got back to our room on our wedding night there was our favorite picture taken already printed out and framed for us. What an incredible surprise that was! We had all our pictures the follow week and they exceeded our expectations. The pictures he took embodied the love, emotion, beauty, intensity, and excitement of our special day. I couldn't have asked for anything more! I would highly recommend Juan Carlos to anyone getting married in Cabo! http://www.juancarlostapia.com/wedding-ventanas-al-paraiso-resort/

We are getting married in October 2016 and I although most things are sorted one of the areas I am really struggling to find are decent bridesmaid dresses for £100 or under per dress. The colours I am looking for are burnt orange and royal blue - naturally royal blue is easy to find but burnt orange is rather more difficult. I have found lots of websites which offer a service where you can buy a dress custom made - looking like they come from China. I used to live in Hong Kong and so have had things made in China before and the quality is very good. I am worried though that if I go with one of these companies I will be parting with a lot of money but not getting anything or getting rubbish quality products. One of the websites I've found is: http://www.jueshegowns.co.uk/ Anyone used this place or any other internet custom making service?

Far too often on this site, I’ve seen many brides beat themselves over weight gain, lack of wedding planning or just a general lack of motivation. I’ve spoken to a few brides on here (@, @@deecol and @calgarybride2015) and have come up with the idea of starting an accountability group. Accountability has been proven to be successful in achieving any goal as it helps one keep focus and achieve the goals set forth. Most importantly, it lets you know if you’re getting off track and not staying true to your plan. An accountability group is a small group of people checking in with each other, minimum once a week. Now this accountability group is for two things, to set health goals (both physical and mental) and to set wedding planning goals. If you would like to join this group, you basically just need to do the following: - If it’s your first goal, write a little blurb about yourself and why you would like to join. Then write an overall goal you would like to achieve. This is for the health portion, we all know what we want to achieve for our wedding planning goals LOL. For example, a first blurb goal would be to lose 10 lbs in 4 months. - Then every Thursday of each week, “check in” by writing down steps you’ve taken in the week to achieve both your health and wedding planning goals. For example: o Health goal: I attended two yoga sessions and have given up junk food this week o Wedding planning goal: I booked my photographer - If there was anything that hindered you from progress that week, feel free to use it as an avenue to vent. Perhaps you’re stressed at work, sometimes finding an outlet to vent is a good cathartic way of getting your frustrations out. - Most importantly, be honest. We will have obstacles to our goals and that is completely fine. In the end, we are all here to support each other. I hope this doesn’t sound cheesy at all. I was initially going to start a Facebook group with those who have expressed interest but I thought that this forum is actually a great venue to host this group. Everyone on her has been more than supportive of each other and that’s exactly the atmosphere I’d like to foster in this group. Since I’ve started the group, I’ll go first. My name is Jerilee and I’m getting married on January 23, 2016 at Moon Palace. I was never the type to workout and have a love affair with food. Fried foods are my kryptonite. I’m Filipino, we fry everything LOL As I reached my 30’s, my love affair with food started affecting my waistline. I never quite noticed the weight gain until 2010 when we were all measured for bridesmaid’s dresses for my friend’s wedding. My measurements were the same as my friend who had just given birth! I was absolutely horrified. So right away, I signed up for bootcamp at this small studio near my house. After a year of working out, I was still not seeing the results I wanted. I spoke to my bootcamp instructor and she told me that exercise alone won’t do anything; I also had to change my eating habits. Naïve me thought that if I workout, I could lose weight while continuing to eat junk food. She had me on a strict diet and cleanse for a few weeks and I immediately noticed a big improvement! I am now at my ideal weight for my height and have been working my butt off to maintain it. I’ve already bought my dress and that has motivated me to continue on my path to health, I will be honest in that although I try to eat healthy, I still can’t get over my love affair with food. I do have the occasional cheat days and don’t deprive myself. So here are my health goals: I would like to maintain my current weight but tone up in a few places, including my stomach. I would like to try to eat more vegetables and fruits and make sure that I don’t skip any meals.

I've seen posts for Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Toronto brides but nothing for Vancouver or any other BC city. I just wanted to say hi to my fellow Local brides and see if we can share some tips on wedding gown shopping, travel agents, local deals and anything else wedding related. I've met tons of lovely fellow Canadian brides, any local ones out there?

Here are my wedding invites..... They came out great! I used Vanessa's Wedding Passports and she had a template specific to my resort (Dreams Los Cabos). I used a local graphic artist to help with the little details and with the printing.

Hello everyone!!! Just trying to see if there are any Paradisus Varadero brides or brides-to-be out there? We are getting married in May (2016) and trying to see some recent wedding reviews but not finding much luck My fiancé and I are kind of concerned because it seems like all the reviews coming from Cuba lately are really hit and miss - and more misses. Has something changed over there or are people being extra picky these days? Any info on the resort and especially on weddings there would be so very much appreciated! Fingers crossed!!

Does anyone have experience bringing these kind of things into Cuba? I'm planning on keeping and briginf receipts for everything I buy, but I'd be choked if it got taken away at customs. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hey there! I really want to do a destination wedding but my folks are insisting that I should have a catholic wedding ceremony. Based on my research, I have found Gran Caribe Real as one of my options. I've looked into Xcaret weddings as well. I've contacted TAs already just waiting on their response. Anybody have any suggestions on other places that offer catholic ceremonies or have experienced weddings at GCR? Please let me know, a brief review of the resorts such as their food and services would be great! Thanks so much!

Hi everyone, Happy New Year! We would really like to hire a reggae band to play at our reception. However, not everyone in our group is familiar with reggae music so we would prefer a band that could do reggae covers of popular songs. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! I have decided I should start a planning thread - I figure I should share my experiences as I go. A little bit about me .. I am from Toronto, Ontario. I got engaged in August 2014 and am planning to have a Mexico (on the caribbean side) wedding in January 2016. So far, planning has been quite a process and I haven't even booked a resort yet! Kenny (my fiance) and I knew we wanted a destination wedding from the beginning. We are avid travelers .. backpackers, living abroad, that sort of thing. Our families and wedding guests are from all over the world (literally!), which makes planning a destination wedding a bit of a hassle as far as booking through an agent. STARTING TO PLAN We started in November by setting out to Mexico to search for a perfect wedding venue. We went to see 5 resorts, and have narrowed down our list to 2.. The Dreams Tulum and the Azul Sensatori. We wanted to give our guests extra time to save for our wedding, so we didn't book a venue right away. We are finally ready to book now - and our TA gave us prices that are WAYYYY above our budget per guest. (budget = $1800 per guest). Our rates given this week were between $2100-$2400 per guest double occupancy from Toronto. After visiting these resorts ourselves - we deem it outrageous to charge that much per head. (Especially when I have seen bookit.com deals for about $1500 including flights for these resorts). So, because we are now at a loss.. We are reaching out to other resorts to see what their quotes are. Unless there is a great deal - we will just continue to wait it out... see if the prices go down. Although that is really risky for us, considering we are getting married the first week of January. Its a bit stressful, because I have my invitations all designed, and ready to go ... but without a date/time/place! ARRGGHH. In the mean time, I have started a list of things that i CAN do while I wait. (decor, dress, color schemes, etc). I really never realized how much planning goes into a wedding. I wanted someone to do it all for me ... we can only wish. THE DRESS: This was another process. Dress shopping was REALLY difficult for me. Im about a size 2, so I always swam in the dresses I tried on. Nothing but $14,000 designer gowns fit me. The cup sizes were all huge, the backs so high, the waists like a paper bag. I went to about 8 shops total. And went back and forth from style to style, fell in love with quite a few, but nothing was really PERFECT. I wondered what was wrong with me. Why a dress was speaking to me... why I wasn't crying. Why nothing was quite right. I was even asked to do Say Yes To The Dress Canada, and didn't find anything. So, one day I just decided. If you like it, buy it. So this search can be over and done with. I showed my maid of honor a pictures of the dress I have been looking at online, and as we walked by a small boutique we saw the EXACT dress in the store. I made an appointment for the next day, went in, tried it on, and gave my deposit. I splurged a little (about $3000 for my dress, not including alterations). BUT, I think it will be stunning when it comes in my size. The dress is Allure Couture c288. Its truly so beautiful! Havent quite decided if I am going to have a veil or not yet.. I may get a cathedral veil for pictures, and then just have a headpiece or flowers for the ceremony/reception. What do you think? DECOR/COLOR SCHEMES: I know even though I haven't picked a resort, we will get married on/near the beach. So I have started to plan out my color scheme, archway, chairs, that kind of stuff. The more I research, the more I realize I have expensive taste. I also realized I really like dark/deep colours, which doesnt exactly fit with a "beach" theme, but why does it have to be a beach theme? I have chosen coral for my bridesmaids dresses (the girls really wanted coral, I wanted burgundy, haha). BUT, instead of burgundy dresses, my decor colours are going to be burgundy, nude, gold. I have decided I want them to have bouquets of deep red calla lillies, about 25 in each bouquet. I think I will buy silk, or fake ones and bring them with me .. I found a website online $85 for 105 fake calla lillies - making about 4/5 bouquets. As far as my archway - I want it to be draped in chiffon. I don't know if resorts do that .. or maybe they do for $$$$$$$$, but I am thinking of just bringing my own with pictures to set it up. I am going to go with Tiffany Chairs and have white chiffon decorations on the back row of all the chairs in the ceremony. Only the back row so they it doesn't look too busy. I will use the same decorated chairs for my head table at my reception. FLOWERS: I know I want those calla lillies for my bridesmaids, for myself I will probably have a mix of white/burgundy/gold flowers. I think they are usually included in the wedding packages. I want quite a bit of flowers on my arch - two circle chunks of them on each side of the archway down halfway in the middle. I may outsource and get a florist off the resort, depending. The dreams, and other resorts charge upwards of $300 per bundle of flowers on each side.. CRAZY. They also charge $6 per tea lights.. ha, insane. I hope to bring SO much stuff with me. I will probably use my bridesmaids flowers as centerpieces for the reception, which will bring in the burgundy tones. RECEPTION: My overall vision is clean, white, burgundy, gold, crisp. Nothing too tacky like shells on tables, or nothing too bright. I want it very "glam" looking, not "beachy". Although, nothing against the beachy theme. I just want more of a warm winter feel. I envision a lot of lighting, a lot of white chiffon decoration, and a lot of flowers. Not much other than lighting and flowers. I think I will buy tons of tea lights, or small candles and bring them with me. I may/may not have chinese lanterns. Depending on the reception venue, they may look cheap. But I really like them! MUSIC: Probably going to hire a DJ. Probably going to have to rent a sound system for the ceremony for music.. Dreams charges like $275 just to use microphones for vows. GEEZ! I'll keep you posted on how much that stuff costs at other resorts. You would think it would be included for the ceremony at least? DINNER: Not really sure about any of the food options, etc yet. I know that most venues with over 40 guests have buffet style - which I think is horrible when you are charging me about $100 per person to eat. I would prefer a plated meal for that price, but we'll see depending on where we book. How have the dinner prices worked out for you guys? BUDGET: Our budget was originally $10,000 - not including rings, dress, or our trips. $10,000 just for the wedding at the resort. I don't necessarily want a cocktail hour, I would rather use that money for an extra hour in the reception. The dreams only includes 3 hours .. do other resorts include 4? That would be awesome. How much is it usually to have an extra hour? I don't know if $10,000 is doable. It is seeming at a place like the dreams, it will be tight. Ie: $250 set up fee if you bring your own decorations. $300 fee if I use an outside florist. $870 for the DJ for 3 hours. $4 per table napkin... LIKE HONESTLY! Crazy! I would love to hear about pricing for other resorts. Either that, or I will be bringing in ALL of my own stuff, haha - and still probably ending up paying more than $10,000. Previous brides - is $10,000 a realistic price? Let me know. It seems like until just before the wedding you really get the pricing, which seems crazy considering we are bringing thousands of dollars into the resort. Anyway, that is all the planning I have done so far. It gets kind of crazy, and I could literally spend hours doing research - its sooooo much work! I never knew. Maybe we should all elope, haha. Good luck planning. I welcome any feedback, advice, comments you guys have! I attached a few photos of some of my decor ideas.

Hi All, FI and I are currently thinking about postponing our wedding from April until later this year. We've looked into other months this year and for various reasons such as costs from flying from the UK, weather, work commitments, we have narrowed it down to November. We then have to consider the dates in which our travel agent fly from the UK, which is Tuesdays and Thursday and the pre wedding events we would like to have beforehand. Due to birthday celebrations earlier in the month (mine ) we have narrowed down the date and think that Tuesday 22nd November could be good. This is the day after Revolution Day which is a Mexican Public holiday. Any thoughts on getting married the day after a public holiday? Will the service provided by vendors be good if they may have been out celebrating all day the day before? If there are any last minute queries, will we be able to get hold of vendors the day before? I currently have my hair and makeup planned for the day before the wedding which I think may not be possible to have the day before (not a huge issue though). Thanks in advance

Hi everyone! After months of lurking on here (and a few random posts) I'm officially ready to start my planning thread! We're at T MINUS 10 MONTHS! It looks like these things usually start with some background of us, so here it goes! The Build Up: Mr. and I met in college at a house party. We're both very sarcastic people and we essentially gave each other shit the entire night...making fun of each others' majors, etc. There was just something about the cute boy with the surfer hair, though, so I used what little info I had to facebook stalk him a couple days later. It was easier back then when it was limited to college students! We exchanged phone numbers and met up the next weekend. Unfortunately, the next weekend happened to be my 21st birthday, which means I made a complete drunken fool of myself! We count the dinner AFTER that as our official first date anniversary, haha! That was 9 wonderful years ago. We've been through so much--living across the country from each other, moving across the country together, graduate school, jobs, apartments, pets, SKYDIVING, etc.. I wouldn't change a thing. He is by far my favorite person, and we make each other better. The Proposal: There's no big story here, but it just wouldn't have been "him" if he had done something big and elaborate. I had actually found the ring box many months earlier and had been driving myself crazy about it! (and no, I didn't open it!) Every time we would go out to dinner, or go on a hike, or do anything remotely romantic, I expected that damn ring. Once, he even surprised me with a gift in a small box before I left on a work trip.....it was earrings! Such a sweet gesture, but I'm sure my jaw was just hanging. Anyway, we had family visiting us for Xmas/Mr.'s birthday, so I figured it would happen then. Nope. Then I thought maybe on New Year's Eve. Nope. On January 2nd, we had a group skype call with a bunch of friends, then settled in to eat dinner. As I'm carrying dirty dishes to the kitchen, he goes into the bedroom and grabs the box. He proposed kneeling on our kitchen floor. I SOBBED. I don't really remember what he said, but I just remember him being so sweet. He had to ask me a couple times because I forgot to say yes! The Ring: I mean, come on, it's gorgeous! (actual planning things in next post....)

I never thought planning a wedding would be so overwhelming. I just contacted a travel agent through a list of specialized Royal Wedding Specialist ( We want the Royal Playa Del Carmen). I am not sure if that was the right first step, or if I was supposed to reach out to someone from the hotel first. Are the prices online, pretty close to accurate - Im not sure how to figure all that out. I know I need a photographer out there, so any recommendation would be great! I am also super interested in a videographer. I decided on a destination wedding because I thought it would be more affordable. Is 10k a realisitc amount for a wedding of 20-40 people? any advice, input etc would be great!

Hi everyone My name is shanay. I got engaged in October 2015 in the Dominican Republic and will also be getting married there in November of this year. After a long search and lot's of headaches we finally made a decision on the Riu palace. The package they offering is the best out of all the other resorts we looked at and it covers up to 40 guest with a 25 dollars free for anything over the 40 which isn't bad at all. My only problem is the cost per person per night. I have a travel agent and she got us $122 double occupancy, which in my heart I know is a good deal but I can't help but feel it's still a lot. We are only doing 4 nights 5 day's nothing more. Also some of the people we are inviting have kids which is 60 dollars a night for two year's and older. So my question is have anyone stayed at this hotel before or know anyone that got married there? And if yes how was the experience? Thank you in advance! Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

Just wondering if anyone has gotten married at the Riu Santa Fe???? We are planning our wedding for April, 2016 and am looking for advice, reviews, pictures! We are having a small ceremony on the beach and are having dinner at the Steakhouse and thinking of renting the tequila bar afterwards for our reception. We booked the wedding through a travel agent and I have been told that if we book the tequila bar we should consider decorations, lighting, etc. has anyone had their reception at the tequila bar? is it worth renting decorations from the resort (I find it a little crazy to have to rent decorations as it should be included in the price of the wedding). If anyone has advice, pictures or anything I would appreciate it!! Also, I am thinking of hiring the resorts photographers (My wedding in Los Cabos), anyone have any advice on that? Thanks so much!!!
