  1. I've been on the fence about buying my bridesmaid dresses or not. When I asked all my attendants to be my BM, they knew I was having a DW to begin with, so I feel that they have already committed to the expense of traveling, but by accepting to be my BM they also commit to any additional costs that comes with that title. They certainly had the option to say no and just come as a guest. All my ladies have an important role in my life and feel that paying 50-100 for a dress isn't too much to ask of a BM. I am also letting them pick the style of dress- I'm just telling them the color, material and length. I will be getting each of them pretty wonderful attendant gifts which I have already been brainstorming ideas for.
  2. I have a feeling I am going to feel the same way if i add it all up... oh dear
  3. I love the look of tungsten. I actually didnt know about it until my brother mentioned it. Now the style is growing on my FI
  4. The first thing I ordered from Vistaprint was return address labels. Now I pick and choose what promos are sent to me via email. But now I think i'll wait for groupons to roll around. Thanks for the tip
  5. Congrats to all you lovely brides! We're getting married June 12, 2013 Barcelo Maya Tropical, Riviera Maya
  6. Congratulations! what a wonderful story and a spectacular new beginning for you both. Thank you for sharing your ideas, story and helpful hints. Much appreciated
  7. JoanneIreland: Love the color yellow how you incorporated it into all your decor. Thank you for all the helpful suggestions. I am not a fan of fondant to begin with, so buttercream sounds like a great option- I guess it is easy as just asking. I love your twist on how the bride and groom kiss by making them shake the maracas instead of clinking the glasses.
  8. I understand the desire to spend a day as a newly wed couple with just your husband right after your wedding. After much discussion with my FI, for ourselves, we are planning to have a separate trip for our honeymoon. We value that people have taken the time and expense to travel to celebrate our wedding with us, and also we are able to have a family vacation together. So, we plan to spend the whole week with those who have come, and then take the time for ourselves at a later date
  9. This is an amazing post! Thank you for all the great ideas. I plan to utilize my wedding party and family members to divide up some of the items we need to bring down. My eyes are always peeled in walmart, michaels and the famous dollar store etc for great finds.
  10. We're just paying for my FI's son for the week (1100). Our eng gift from my mom, is her paying for our flights. Due to the # of ppl we are booking, we are getting up to 4 people for free (they just have to pay the tax), so I'm going to kick that back to my mom, dad, grandma and brother.
  11. My FI and I debated on DIY vs professionally done for a long time. I thoroughly enjoy seeing all the brilliant and creative ideas all you lovely ladies have on this site. After finalizing our invite list, we would be sending out about 160 invites. I know myself... I would enjoy making the first 10 or so and then I would get extremely bored and frustrated and I know my FI doesnt have a creative bone in his body, so I would be flying solo. After going to a few bridal shows and price shopping around at different stores, we opted for getting them prof done. They work out to about $3.20/invite and its with embossed and engraved ink. That isn't something I would be able to accomplish. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final product and I will post pics as soon as they are delivered.
  12. Congratulations Krysta! Beautiful photos!
  13. Welcome! This website is so helpful for ideas and organizing your vision. Happy planning
  14. This photo is SICK! Must have been such a thrill! Congrats
  15. I will keep an eye out. I also subscribe to livingdeal and dealfind. I used shutterfly for my photo albums and was very happy with how they turned out.
  16. Hi everyone! So happy to have found this forum, didnt even know it existed. My FI is 39, and I'm 28. He has a 7 yr old son who I adore. I always knew I wanted kids, and we plan on having our own as well. We are excited to be including his son in our wedding, and I am always amused that he always asks if we're married yet. I look forward to sharing stories with everyone and welcome any advice.
  17. Hi KristieT, After looking at a few different TA's: Flight Centre, UniGlobe, some online ones (Destinationwedding, thomascook etc), we decided to go with AMA travel. The lady at Flight Center was not very friendly, and almost seemed commission based driven. The lady we spoke with at Uniglobe was the manager, and was excited to work with us at first, but then became very wishy-washy with the offers we wanted to inquire about. We started looking for resorts in Jan 2012 for a wedding in May-Aug 2013. Most vendors have their prices come out 14 months prior to travel for their group bookings. When we spoke with AMA... The service is sensational. We went to a destination wedding seminar that AMA hosted (for free!) and they gave us such amazing advice. I had an appointment booked with an AMA TA consultant for the day after the seminar and she helped us narrow down resorts. She was able to call directly to her vendors and get a quote, and got back to us in just over a week. We booked our wedding for June 2013 at the Barcelo Maya Tropical, Riviera Maya. Pricing was also an important booking factor for us and our guests. We have guests travelling from all over Canada, the US, and even abroad, and having a TA from AMA gives us such a relief to know that everything is taken care of. Hope that helps, and happy planning
  18. Taking the favors back to their room- a very good point, didn't think of that.
