  1. I really love the idea of an amenity basket, but I'd be worried about doing one where the toilets are public. I went to a wedding last year that was at the groom's parents' home and they did so well with the amenity stuff that the bride even laid out tables with mirrors and plugged in a straightener!
  2. I like to leave my cat at home in familiar surroundings when we go away and my mum normally looks after her but of course she'll be coming to the wedding. My future BIL's girlfriend runs a pet sitting business but of course she'll be coming too! I'm going to ask her if she has any friends who can come round and feed her. Luckily a cat doesn't take quite as much looking after as a dog
  3. We're in a bit of a different situation as both sets of parents are contributing a certain amount which is in our "fund" so we're actually physically paying for everything without knowing from whom it's coming from.
  4. They are expensive. That's why we didn't choose to go to one. It was about £1.5k more than the resort we were in. There were some plusses like the fact that it was child free and it had more choice of restaurants but it wasn't worth the price difference.  The food is also lush! If you're a coffee drinker, make sure you bring back some Blue Mountain coffee. They left some in our room every day but I went to my local coffee deli type thing the other day and it was £15.00 a packet! My god!  Are you on facebook? Give me an add if you are and you should be able to see the pics from my friend's wedding last year. I won't put my full name up as it's quite unusual and would come up in a google search (hey, I google my friends!) but my first name is Nia and I have a double barrelled surname J then S. My profile pic is me in a blue dress with my fiance pulling a funny face! Â
  5. Oh how exciting! Whereabouts? I went to a friend's wedding in Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay last year and loved it (we didn't stay at Sandals tho). Â Have you been to Jamaica before? The people are soooo lovely!
  6. Definitely acceptable. We are getting married in 2012 and my sister, my best friend and FI's brother are all getting married in 2011 and are saving their honeymoon until our DW.
  7. We'll be staying in our destination for a couple of days after the wedding. Depending on how much flights cost, we may fly to another city in Australia before going elsewhere on our honeymoon. As Australia is literally the other side of the world from us we can go anywhere! I love to relax on the beach, but FI doesn't, so we're thinking of possibly combining a few days in Las Vegas with a week in Hawaii, Mexico or the Caribbean. Can't wait to start booking it!
  8. I went to a wedding in Italy in May. The weather was lovely and hot when the sun was out but it was pretty cloudy a lot of the time and rained a bit too. Â To Navi - I think it would be fairly cold in January, certainly in the North, but warmer in the South. Â To TA Becky - the wedding I went to wasn't the best organised wedding I've ever been to, but it was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed the trip. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to help.
  9. We went to a DW in Jamaica last year. We weren't really "invited" by way of formal invitation. It was a girl from work (FI and I work together) who mentioned to FI that they were getting married in Jamaica if we fancied going. Don't think she thought we'd take her up on it, but we did! Â Anyway, we weren't staying in their resort, so we just bought 2 day passes. When we got there, the groom's parents had turned up to surprise them. In their wedding package, they would have had a romantic dinner for two, but they swapped this to the next night and all 6 of us just went to one of the all-inclusive restaurants and had a meal. We then went to one of the bars and stayed there until late. It was so relaxed and we had so much fun. They woudl have done the same had we been there or not.
  10. I am SO addicted too! I got engaged in March and joined a UK forum for "normal" weddings in around June. Although it was great to get some ideas, there is hardly anyone on there planning a DW. Stumbled across this site a few weeks ago and I constantly have a window up at work! I swear my productivity has halved since I found this site. FI and I work together and when he comes into my office I have to quickly minimise the window. He already thinks I'm obsessed and we still have nearly 2 years until the wedding!
  11. FutureWagners - man, you have done a lot of posts since July!
  12. Grape jelly (only because you can't get it in the UK so I make the most of it whenever I come to the US!) Â Baths or showers?
  13. My confession: Â I am so jealous of future BIL who decided to get engaged AFTER us and get married BEFORE us. Â I am also fed up with another future BIL and his partner who have given future PIL their first grandchild and really take advantage of their kindness and generousity by dumping the baby with them at every opportunity!
  14. I am from West Wales. Getting married in Australia so not a typical resort DW. What about you?
  15. Great recipe, I love to make my own curries and, although they're so readily available in jars, there's such a sense of satisfaction from making your own. But, as Kate said, nothing beats authentic Indian food. I lived with an Indian girl in university and, although she was a terrible cook most of the time, there was no beating her homemade potato curry, recipe passed down from her grandmother. She also used to make fresh chapattis too. So good!
  16. We bought our first house together in April 2008. It's a big old Victorian (1900ish) house which was being used as student accommodation, so every available room was being used as a bedroom! The decor was disgusting. We copmletely renovated the whole thing, but FI's brother (who does this for a living) did it for us. FI can barely put up a picture frame, so there was no way we could do it ourselves! Although my parents and I did a lot of the painting. We really did nearly fall out big time with his brother. We had planned to be in by August 2008, which then went to September 2008. We eventually moved in at the beginning of December 2008, although my living room floor went down on Xmas Eve!
  17. Tonight I'm making black bean chilli. Thought it looked delicious in the magazine and healthy too. Not sure what FI will say when he realises there's no meat in it!
  18. I love the idea of a candy buffet and was disappointed that I wouldn't really be able to have one at my DW. It took me ages to realise that I could just do it at my AHR! I'm going to buy jars, tongs and bags from ebay and the sweets in bulk when I see them. This'll also save me from having to have favours for 200-300 people! Can't wait!
  19. I wouldn't bother, the dress has enough detail by itself. It's stunning BTW! (nice to see another UK bride too!)
  20. At around age 14, my grandma got me some all in one pyjamas with poppers down the front (like a baby would wear). They were burgundy fleece. Poor grandma, rest her soul!
