  1. @Cherina, my daughter was married at MDV about 2 years ago. Because of the size of the resort and costs, it tend to be a small, select group of brides who decide on this venue. With that being said, she had an amazing wedding at the resort. We had all villas booked and we still have guests talking about her wedding. Good luck in your planning, I am sure your ceremony will be unforgettable!
  2. When my daughter was married, she initially paid the deposit to hold the resort (~$4000) and then included on STD cards a time line for guests to make their deposit to the resort. Her initial deposit was later used to offset the costs of the wedding. Paying the deposit can be a hardship, but think of it as being the same as paying a deposit to reserve a venue. Good luck in your planning.
  3. I love the face of the groom captured as he first sees his bride! Priceless! Also, I love the shot of the bride and groom kissing under the bride's veil!
  4. Hi I recently attended a wedding reception at Kukua Beach Club. The reception was on the veranda and the place was beautiful and the food delicious! The staff appeared to be very accomandating! By the time we arrived at the Club, it was dark, so unable to really see a view of the ocean, but we had cocktails around the pool. I think you can have a beautiful wedding and reception there!
  5. To add to the fray, I think you should not ask your guests to come to your wedding and pay for their supper!!! When my daughter was married in Jamaica at an AI, she paid for one day of everyone's AI plan ($115 plus tax ) to insure that no one paid for the welcome or reception dinner. If she had her reception in the States, the costs would had been similar, so why should the guests be required to pay for their dinner because the wedding couple decided to do a DW? Regarding those guests that you don't know...I would be surprised that relatives/friends that you are not well acquainted with are going to pay $2200+ to come to your wedding, of the 88 people invited to our daughter's wedding, 42 came Futhermore, when I receive invitations from couples that I haven't seen in years!!! I assume that they are gift seekers, and really are not expecting me to come. However, with a close blood relative like an Uncle or Aunt, if you invite them and they come, see it as a reconnecting with a family member that you should probably get to know! I will say this, we were surprise about the guests that chose to come versus the ones that didn't. As mentioned by others , maybe you can save money in other ways-going with local flowers, cost effective centerpieces, skipping the OTT bags, etc. Good luck with your planning. Its your wedding and ultimately your decision.
  6. I have a picture of my daughter and her husband sharing the cake and it was beautiful!
  7. I saw this on another bride's thread: Purple Gecko: 1 1/2 oz Tequila 1/2 oz Blue Curacao 1/2 oz Red Curacao 1 oz Cranberry Juice 1 oz Sour Mix 1/2 oz Lime Juice Directions: Shake with ice and pour into salt-rimmed cocktail or margarita glass Garnish with a lime wedge Purple Hooter recipe 1/2 oz vodka 1/2 oz Chambord® raspberry liqueur 1 splash 7-Up® soda Pour ingredients into a stainless steel shaker over ice. Shake until ice cold. Strain into a large shot glass, and serve. of course you can change the names to something more romantic.
  8. love, love, love your dress!!! Great job on boarding passes!
  9. You can search google images to help locate the dress. Copy and paste the picture (I save it as a jeg file), then go to google image search and upload the picture (it will ask you to browse, then download it on site window). Google will find picture and give available info. There may be an easier way to do google search, but ... good luck! I just tried to do it and sorry, google took me to the original post, lol. So try to pm the BDW bride, her profile name: Shoesiesluvr
  10. For the rehearsal dinner we did Jamaican specialty foods, curried goat, jerk chicken, etc. Wedding reception was grilled lobster, beef tenderloin. MDC and MDV were very accommodating with our menu selections.
  11. wedding on the beach with a tent reception also on the beach. It was lovely and I think the guests appreciated that it was on the beach and that during the reception, some of our guests did walk in the shallow water. With the paper lanterns, twinkling lights and votives, it was beautiful!
  12. Jumping the broom is such a beautiful part of the wedding ceremony and I am happy that my daughter included it in her's. We carried it on the plane.
  13. @Jacki7896 If you go to youtube and put in steel drum music you will hear a good selection of what is available. For my daughter's wedding and cocktail hour we did steel drum, and this was our playlist: Regarding weddings at MDC and MDV, the staff went over and beyond to insure that my daughter had the wedding of her dreams! They were outstanding, and I have traveled to many 4 and 5 star hotels/resorts in Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Six months after the wedding, we still have guests raving about the wedding and the resort, with many planning to return in 2012 for the Jamaican Independent Celebration. Oh, I am not an employee or MDC or MDV, just a Realtor who have seen many nice places, and these resorts are comparable. Brides just go, relax and have a beautiful wedding! Steel Drum Music played during seat.docx
  14. Regarding make up, we used Debra from Queen Bee, and she does air brush makeup. If memory serves me, it was $75/person and our make up held up through all the humidity. It is a shame that MDV and MDC changed their transfer policy as it should be a service that they offer SINCE guests to their resort must fly into Montego Bay to get to their resort in Negril, especially when the guests do the AI plan. Hello..., AI!!!! Also, note the distance between MDV and MDC may be 8-10 miles, but travel time is about 45 minutes, which was a surprise to us as we had been told about 10 - 15 minutes. But it gives you time to see Negril, and the changes from going beach to cliff side.
  15. sorry Larajo for the delayed response, but since daughter is now a married woman, seldom do I visit the site (then I get this great hunger to check up on you all!) If you have made a visit to Moon Dance, I'm positive that your questions and qualms have been resolved. If not, let me try to help. First, Oneika is wonderful, but she really does not get ACTIVELY involve until closer to the wedding. I would send her emails of things I was interested in and about 2 weeks later she would respond, but about 6-8 weeks before the wedding she was on it, with details and suggestions. We went with her suggestions for the baker, DJ and fire dancer. Trust me, she took care of all the details of making sure that the people were where they needed to be on the day of the wedding. Oneika even handled some things that I tried to take care of from the States (and became jumbled up on arrival - like the persons I ordered coffee and rum from for the OTT bags not showing up- Oneika called them to try to get them to deliver, but in the end, she went and purchased the items for the bags) This was my first wedding where I had to handle a lot of the details, which Oneika took over for me. We actually had a no stress wedding day! If you have any additional questions that you think I can answer, please feel free to email me. Oh, regarding the florist, she did a wonderful job, but in hindsight, I wish I would have been more detailed on the centerpieces, meaning sending her pictures of what we wanted instead of following her suggestions. They were nice, but standard, not really special.
  16. Sorry Heidi, its late, but my daughter's wedding was at MDV not the Cliffs. We did have a dinner the night before the wedding at MDC.
  17. Hi Heidi, My daughter's wedding was at MDC in Sept. 2010. Meal times were estb by the guests staying in the Villa. Our group had rented out all the villas, and based on the guests, meals were served at their request, though most were serve around the same times. The staff arrives daily around 8 and usually serves breakfast around 9:30. However, one of the villas had the younger, late risers, and their breakfast was served much later in the day! We did the AI plan, and the bartender was available daily until around 8or 9, but the bar was available 24hours. We reserved the DJ, florist and baker about 6 months before the wedding. We were unable to reserve the photographer of choice, so we decided not to risk losing the other vendors! Oneika, the wedding planner assisted us with these vendors and the day of the wedding made sure everyone and everything was in place. Good luck in planning if you have any additional questions feel free to email me. MDC is a beautiful place and the staff went over and beyond to make sure our guests had a wonderful time and my daughter a beautiful wedding.
  18. Hi all, I've been reading the discussion on the wedding cake. We used Myrie Cakes, and she did a wonderful job! 3 flavors were picked, I emailed her a picture of what my daughter wanted: and this is the cake she made: My main suggestion is to have individual cake boxes so your guests can carry wedding cake back to their rooms to enjoy later. The cake was delicious, but most people were fulled, the staff cut the cake in very small slices, and I believe most of the wedding cake went home with the staff!
  19. Hi Carrie, My daughter's wedding was Labor Day weekend 2010 at MDV. We had rain showers every day, but her wedding day! The showers were short (not longer than an hour) and did not change any of her wedding events- beach reception, dinner on the cliffs (MDC) or a sunset cruise. We did purchase wedding insurance as a safety measure because it was there hurricane season. I think the cost was about $250 for our immediate family, and would reimburse not only our travel expenses, but wedding costs associated with the wedding- flowers, decorations, photographer fees, etc. We also decided to go with the tent, which was a great choice for us! MDV did a wonderful job of having it set up and decorated, plus it gave her wedding reception a different feel from the beach reception a few nights earlier. This is a link of non-professional pics (a lot but it will give you a true idea of the weekend, lol) http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamaicasept2010/ and pics of the actual wedding http://www.rochelleandpeter.jamaicaweddingphotos.com/ I can only tell you that the bride, groom and guests had an amazing time and are already planning a trip back to Negril and MDV! Have a wonderful wedding, I would tell you not to worry, but we did too, all the way up to departure!
  20. We didn't have any problems bringing first aide kits, snacks and wedding decorations through customs using a total of 5 checked bags. We didn't have any starfish, but we did have sand dollars. Hope this helps. Oh, leaving after the wedding, the bottles of rum that we purchased in Jamaica for the OOT bags diid not make it through customs!
