  1. I played with this a little, this is what I came up with so far : I just had a wee bit of 5/8" satin ribbon on hand (teal), and a length of thinner ribbon (peach), I think it's 3/8". I am not sure which one I like better, they both look really pretty! Easy to do, no special skills required (crochet, etc), just wrap it around, up from the bottom, wrap the ends around themselves and back down and around. I'm going to run to the fabric store and pick up some ivory ribbon to match the flip flop and try it again to see if I can get it to blend it more, but I'm liking how it's turning out so far! It's not as "puffy" as it looks in the Etsy picture, so it's most likely a different technique, but I still think it's working. Add some rhinestones or flowers and voila. )
  2. Very cute! I love the daisies and the sparkly flip flops! That's the way to go!
  3. Those are CUTE! Those look like Old Navy flip flops with ribbon or something on the straps!! Ooooh... my brain gears are working now, I bet I could make those! lol I bought Old Navy flip flops for my daughters and I to wear, but if I could do this somehow, that would be a little dressier and a little nicer!
  4. I love this bouquet!! But a) it's not my colours and I'm actually getting overwhelmed with details so I'm just going to pick an arrangement from the resort. But I still love them. Maybe I can create this later for my reception in my own wedding colours. )
  5. Of those who have had books done with Mixbook, has anyone used it for digital scrapbooking - that is, created your pages in your own program and uploaded the pictures to Mixbook? I'm wondering how the pages print out - the company I use now for my books prints the pages off kilter and I get white around the edges of my page, which I can't seem to avoid. Also, are the front and back covers and the spine customizable as well? It definitely looks like a great resource!!
  6. Honestly, I didn't even consider NOT posting it. Most of our closer family and friends knew what we were planning so they were constantly asking us, "where?" "when?" and "how much". So naturally, as soon as I knew, I posted it all. And besides, if you don't post it, you're just going to be bombarded with questions from everybody and their dog... if it's posted, you can just direct them to your website.
  7. This thread totally helped me in doing my invitations. I did them as postcards on Vistaprint, they'll be mailed out as soon as we're back from Cuba. Here's how the front turned out:
  8. I've never heard of Mixbook before. Your books look awesome! I love that you have your dates on the back - that is super cute!!
  9. Oooh I love the idea of the Nanaimo bars too! I love Nanaimo bars!
  10. I went to a wedding where they had huge slabs of fudge out instead of a wedding cake. I've also seen this three tiered display for donuts that I thought was really cute.
  11. I LOVE this cake. We're going to do something similar - blue and tan gradient, palm trees on the top with a bride and groom if we can find one we like, and use those Guylian Belgian chocolate seashells so they're edible too.
  12. Oh my gosh, we're only 2.5 weeks from leaving for Cuba, I'm getting so excited. I've been finishing up all the little OOT bag details and I'm pretty well done! My OOT Bags: Here are the contents of my "In Sickness and In Health" bags: Contents of each: 1 Purell hand sanitizer (3 for $1 at Dollarama) 1 Aloe vera ($1.57ea at Walmart) 4 Wetnaps (already had those) 4 Lifesaver mints (bag of 60something for $2.99 at Michaels) 4 Band-aids (box of 60 for $4.74 at Zellers) 4 Tylenol (already had a bottle) 2 Hangover Tea bags ($7.95 for a bag of loose leaf tea leaves, I put tea leaves in disposable tea filters, and folded them into these envelopes that I made) Other OOT Bag contents: 1 Welcome book (made and printed myself) 1 Tote bag ($1 at Dollarama) 2 Washcloths (4 for $1 at Dollarama) tied in a green ribbon 1 "Love Notes" heart shaped sticky note pad (pkg of 2 for $1 at Dollarama) 2 personalized pens (box of 12 for $12 at Staples, I made the labels) 1 "Filed Under LOVE" Emery board (pkg of 2 for $1 at Dollarama) 1 Key card holder (Security Imaging) 2 Water jugs ($1.25 at Dollarama) My Pre-Travel Note and Luggage Tag: I sent one luggage tag per couple, and one per single as well.
  13. We sent out 90 invitations, almost 200 people and only 20 people booked - and of those 20 people, they're all family except for 2 friends of my mother-in-law. We had the ticket prices on the invites, and even made separate ones for the invites going out to different major cities. It was $1815 from Thunder Bay to Varadero, $2325 from Vancouver, $1625 from Toronto, and $1745 from Winnipeg. We also posted it on our website. We were actually really disappointed with the number of people we have coming, especially the fact that none of our friends are coming. We booked as early as possible - even knowing we could probably get some better deals if we hold off a bit longer to book, but we wanted to book early so we could let everyone know as early as possible. We booked JUNE 8, 2010 and the trip is March 21, 2011. That's nine months they all had to save up. And we had about 45 people say, "We'll definitely be there!" But now we're 2.5 weeks away and we haven't heard from those people. But, that's me getting my Bridezilla nose out of joint. When we were choosing resorts, one of the things our travel agent mentioned about the price (which might ease your fiancé's mind a bit) is this: You could go with a less expensive resort, but when you go lower in price, you go lower in quality. If you go with a higher priced resort, yes, your guests may complain a bit, but the ones who really want to be there with you, will go. And when all is said and done and they were there, in paradise, having a blast, partying and soaking up the sun, witnessing your special day, etc etc., it's the FUN they'll remember, not the price.
  14. Those are very cute! We did a similar thing for my mom's wedding a few years ago - she married a man from Australia, she's Canadian, so we made Aussie and Canadian flags on toothpicks and stuck them in the cake when the cake was cut. It was very cute!
  15. Great thread!! I signed up for both Snapfish and Shutterfly for this photoshare. I LOVE Shutterfly, but what I was concerned about was the fact that it shrinks the photos down and without getting really technical, there was no way to download the pictures easily (for those tech-challenged people). I also have my own flickr account and I like it, so I think I might go with this. The only thing that concerns me here is the limit on the uploads. :oS
  16. My mom's 50th birthday is the day we all arrive, my uncle (who is coming) is turning 50 a couple weeks later, and he and wife are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, and my youngest daughter is turning 8 on our last day there, so I'm thinking of doing something during a welcome dinner or meet and greet of some sort. We all arrive on the same day, albeit different times.
  17. I've never even heard of that! Interesting concept, but I agree, kind of rude. I have been to a few showers were the bride (or new mom) opened the gifts while the guests were playing games, etc. That way they guests weren't so "bored" and the bride doesn't usually play the games anyway. Maybe that's a possibility for you.
  18. I've been trying to think of how to incorporate my daughters into our ceremony too. Haven't come up with anything yet. :oP
