  1. Thank you Loveisintheair. It was good to hear that as I was sort of thinking of doing the same thing next year. Why not use the beach party if it's available and some people may want to see it anyway while they are there. Not sure what you would do as far as a backup plan if you don't schedule the additional party with the hotel but hopefully, guests won't know any better. It's really about the bride and groom and I am all for keeping things simple. That's my reasoning for doing a dw. We will have a AHR that will suffice and everyone, including those at the wedding are invited.

    Newbie!

    Congratulations and happy planning!
  3. Congratulations! We are getting married April 16, 2011 in Jamaica. I can't wait. I've learned many, many helpful things from this site.
  4. I am struggling also. To help keep costs down, I would like to keep the guest numbers for the wedding small, 20 or less, and then invite everyone to the AHR. I guess this could hurt some peoples feelings but what do you do when you want to keep it smaller and more intimate?? I have been thinking of sending STDs/invites to the smaller group with the wedding website information on it for travel as well as info for the AHR. We have no plans to invite people we work with to the wedding but only the reception. Would it be fair to send out more STDs closer to the AHR and make it more of an invite for the AHR without having to send out another formal invite for the AHR? I never thought it would be this difficult to decide how to do it.
  5. I'm getting married there April 16, 2011. How did you get the information for Michael and the pictures? I'm going with the free package myself and don't want to spend a lot on extras. That's part of the fun of going away and doing it - less details to worry about. Do yo uhave to reserve Michael ahead of time or do they arrange it when you meet with the wedding coordinator? Thanks!
  6. I'm definitely going simple. That was part of the reason for choosing a dw. I don't want to have to worry about all the things it seems I see a lot of brides on here worrying about. Less stress is best. It will be beautiful just being there.
  7. Theresa and Toby Date: 4/16/2011 RIU Ocho Rios Going to try and keep it island simple.
  8. Good luck on choosing. I'm getting married at ROR April 2011. I'm glad I made the choice. I've heard nothing but good things about their wedding planners. Let me know if you end up choosing RIU!
  9. It was good reading your review for those of us getting married at ROR. Thanks! Can't wait to see pics.
  10. I was able to get my date reserved with the RIU at the time that I wanted. I'm hoping I I can get travel rates so I can make my reservation within the 90 day timeframe they give you to confirm the wedding date. I'm looking forward to this forum and it's helpful information.
  11. I was wondering if anyone had any pros or cons between the ROR and Sunset Grande as far as the wedding as well as the rooms/food/service. I'm planning on mine at the ROR in April 2011 but I'm starting to have doubts. One thing I keep reading over and over is that it's not easy to get in touch with the wedding coordinators, the beds are hard, pillows are terrible and there are problems with items disappearing from rooms. It's starting to make me re-think my decision.
  12. Cute, cute. When will you send out your invites to determine how many people will go to the wedding? Do you already have your date booked with the hotel for 2011 and if so, do you have your room reservations as well? Sorry for the questions but I'm new and trying to figure out exactly what order things take place.
  13. Hi! My fiance and I have been engaged since 5/09. We have finally come to the conclusion that we will most likely be going to the ROR for our wedding. It's a very stressful decision to say the least. Names: Theresa and Toby Wedding Date: Feb or April 2011 Location: Riu Ocho Riu I have to say that I have learned more and was able to confirm my thoughts after only one night of ready from this forum. So much more than I was ever able to find in the past 8 months. I sincerely an thankful for this site as I'm sure most other dw brides are. Thanks so much.
  14. Hi! My fiance and I are planning on a Feb or April 2011 wedding. I was wondering if anyone who had their wedding scheduled for 2011 actually has the wedding date reserved with the RIU. How far in advance will the hotel take the ceremony booking? How far in advance can you book your rooms and obtain pricing? I gues this is the piece that is stumping me right now and what to do. I've gotten mixed information on it and would like to give our guests a year's notice so they can know what to budget rather than 6 months to budget. Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone stayed in the Jr Suites Gardenview at the ROR and if so, was the view nice?
  15. I am very new to all of this. Are the receptions included in the "free" package? Thanks
