Also, I was thinking about seding out my save the dates next month, a year in advance so that people have plenty of time to save money and prepare. Is a year in advance too early to send them out without a definate date, resort, ect. Any avice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thankyou, Chelly Hello and welcome to the forum, as a fellow Canadian I know EXACTLY what you are going through as I have gone through the same. Here is what my FI and I did: Once we got engaged we told our parents about having a DW, it's something that we have BOTH always wanted. There were a list of people that we KNEW HAD to be there....mostly our immediate family. Once we know they were on board, we made another list of people that we would really LOVE to have there, really close friends and family. We sent out an e-mail to those people telling them our plans and that as they were so close to us we wanted to give them a heads up as to what we were planning and also roughly WHEN we were planning to have it. We told them that we were still figuring out more details and that once we had that information that we would let them know. We also worked with a TA, she took care of us in booking the DAY and time for us for the Ceremony) and getting us in contact with the WC. Once we had everything finalized with her, got the group rate, we let all the close friends and family know VIA e-mail. They either booked right away or some still haven't, but that is what we expected would happen having a DW. We didn't send out Save the Dates as we had all the information we needed already. We sent out our invites in August with a RSVP date of Feb 1st and the wedding is on May 12th. In the invites we made an additional insert with the resort information and the Travel Agent's information. We didn't put any pricing information; however we have a wedding website where we posted that info. We put the Website information on the insert as well. I have found all other information in THIS FORUM, information about the resort, information that the Wedding Coordinators didn't tell me! This place is a MIRACLE Hope that information helps you. You can PM me more if you need anything
  2. Welcome! That is a good count to have so early in the game! Just remember when you are checking out the resorts and their wedding packages to see how many people it covers..... sometimes you have to pay extra for more than "x" amount of people.....that will help with your budget. Also, unless you know the prices of things that you want (at the ceremony and reception) beforehand, try to bring along some stuff with you to save in your budget. Once you find your place and date you can see if you cah "share" photographers with someone as the consensus of this site is that it's better to bring your own (Personally I asked a good friend of mine that loves taking pics to bring his professional camera and take the pics for me)

Hello and welcome, I find that it's a lot different planning something from Canada rather than the US. I would suggest that you start with deciding if you want to go with those "Destination Wedding" companies or if you want to try to organize something yourself. We did the latter as we thought that the prices of the DW comapnies were a bit high (a Personal Opinion), we started out with the big travel agencies and sourced out their group rate information. Once we had made contact with these specalized Travel Agents we decided to go with Flight Centre.....I can't say it's been PERFECT but that is how these wedding things go
