  1. That is really strange. I wonder if maybe she was trying to tell you that you couldn't continue the ceremony on the sands after receiving due to the fact that the priest has to get special permission just to perform the ceremony outside of the church? Hmm...this is really interesting. I'm going to have to remember to ask my priest about that at mass. That's one of the strangest things I've ever heard..sand...
  2. Good news! Both the white and the topaz starfish that I bought came in yesterday in great condition! Woo hoo! If there are any brides looking for either of those colors, just let me know! Brandy
  3. Wow, it's unfortunate that things had to unfold that way for you, but everything happens for a reason, and the site that you got is absolutely GORGEOUS! I'm sure your wedding is going to be beautiful!!
  4. I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. That's really unfortunate. But, you have to remember, that no matter where you have your wedding, and how you choose to plan it, there will always be people who want you to do things differently. Ultimately, they need to realize that it is YOUR WEDDING and you have the right to plan it as YOU see fit. If they continue to make their snide remarks, you can always politely tell them that while you appreciate their opinion, that it is your wedding, and that the only people who need to be happy with the organization of it are you and FI.
  5. Well, they had said they would hold our date and time for two months until we got everything booked. We actually got a total steal for our trip though. We went through Orbitz and printed off a copy of their going rate for the day (which was $900 pp. for our 8 night stay) and took it into our TA. They did price match, and all we had to put down for a deposit on the trip was the cost of the flight. I'd HIGHLY advise you to regularly check those wholesale sights, because most reputable TA's will match their rates, and you're going to end up saving yourself alot of money. Just a little fun fact....I'm all about saving money on the flight and room in favor of putting it towards other details! Hope that helps you out some! Brandy
  6. I have a similar issue. FI has two sisters, one of which is wonderful towards me, the other which is just like his mother....difficult, distant, and cold, but that's an entirely different story. There was no way to have sister 1 and not sister 2, so what we've decided to do is involve them more in the planning stage by asking for their help on small projects and inviting their input. I also bought the girls matching necklaces from tiffany's (which I found on sale for $60....great steal) as a way to thank them. Also, since both girls husbands are going to be FI's groomsmen, they will be seated at our head table, both at the small reception in Mexico, and at our larger AHR upon return. I hope that this helps you out even a little. It's a tough situation to be in. Try to keep a smile on your face, and to make them feel as involved as possible, without having to have them be in your wedding party.
  7. Oh wow, your pictures are absolutely stunning. Love it!
  8. What I got from my TA was that you actually just pay for the wedding upon arrival at the resort. There was no deposit or anything that we had to put down, just getting our room and flight booked and the manifest faxed to the hotel and they held our date and time!
  9. Wish me luck ladies! I start day 1 tomorrow (boo hoo....I hav e to eat whatever I want!) and I'm actually really excited about this! The ultimate goal is to have to have the wedding dress taken waaaay in! We'll see how things go!
  10. What diet plan are you trying? I'd be willing to give anything a shot...maybe if I know there are others doing the same thing it'll be easier!
  11. My sand colored starfish is making his first journey on November 26th...Woo hoo! 1.) EDRBride-November 26th
  12. That is so cute! I don't have a flower girl either, so we were just going to have those cute little paper cones filled with petals for our guests. I think that the poem is a great addition. It makes it seem that much more meaningful.

  15. Ooookay ladies! I was reading through here and realized that there is NO way that I'll be able to get a starfish, because the dates are all so close together in December/January....sooo I surfed online, and I invested in 2 more beautiful star fishies to start passing. I found a deal I couldn't pass up. I got a white one, and a really pretty topaz sandy colored one (I'm awesome at indecision). I'd be happy to start passing these, as long as I have them back for my wedding day on January 13th (for me and my MOH to use). If you're interested, just let me know!
  16. Congratulations! You're going to love this forum, everyone is so helpful!
  17. I am an awful person. 2 months ago FI's father passed away who was the most wonderful man in the world. I secretly wish it had been FI's self absorbed, controlling mother. God that's awful. I was supposed to go to a family function with FI on Saturday. Didn't go because I had a "migraine". Instead I went out for drinks with the girls. Oops. That was selfish.
  18. Hey ladies! I'm getting married on January 13, 2010 and I would LOVE to use someones starfish as my something borrowed. I promise to take great care of it and to pass it on! If there's a starfish that would like to make the journey down to the Riviera Maya with me, PM me and let me know! Thanks!
  19. You should be fine with that! The wedding coordinators are good at what they do, and as long as they've approved it you have nothing to worry about!
  20. Yay!! There's actually a few of us! We should all figure out a date and time that's going to work for us and go out for cocktails! I'm available any time after the 22nd of this month. What works for everyone?
  21. FI and I are still going back and forth about which package we are going to go with. I'm kind of leaning towards the Mint Breeze package, because we really don't need to spend a great deal of money on a reception down in Mexico when there are only in the ballpark of 20 people going, and we're having a big AHR when we get home. That being said, I didn't want to go with the Blueberry Dream package, because I still want to be able to have a private dinner with my guests, so I don't feel like we're being put on display like animals in a zoo in one of the a la cartes (I have really bad social anxiety, so these are the types of things that I worry about). Another thing that I had looked into doing, but I think we're going to forego is doing the free coconut wedding, and then just renting a catamaran and doing a dinner on there with all of our guests, rather than being in a banquet hall or on th beach. This looked like a great idea on paper, but when we looked in to it, it was going to cost us in the range of 6,000 just to do a decent dinner for us and our guests and to be out for a fair amount of time...just not realistic for us when we're fresh out of school and still paying off debts. Other than the ceremony itself I've been woking quite a bit on some possible excursion ideas in leui of a welcome dinner the first night our guests arrive. We're a bit more of an unconventional couple, so this is something that I think will be a bit more appropriate for our circumstances. I've got quite a bit more notes here, but I don't want to bore you. I'd be happy to give you some idea though, and help in any way I can!
  22. Oh you rock my socks off...you've just saved me another 45 minutes on the phone with the Barcelo arguing to get a WC to talk to me. Thank you dear!
  23. This is really helpful. Now I can actually narrow down what I want from this list instead of having to try to pick and choose from different threads! Thanks!
