  2. omg! i'm soooo sorry to hear that! i really hopthings work out for you!! i'm sending you all the lick in the world!!!
  3. actually - one more question. did Dionne say you needed to pay extra to keep the bartender on? if so how much was it?
  4. thanks! i think i'm going to change my reception setup! i orginally had the steakhouse for 2 hours and then move to the disco for 2 hours - but i kind of feel a little uncomfortable asking people to move. you looked gorgeous by the way!!!
  5. did she tell you that the mother mother of the bride's makeup is complimentary? isn't that awesome!
  6. hi ladies, i need your input! my FI and i have contributed some money towards the trip for everyone in our wedding party. for my BM's and MOH i have decided to get them a custom made beach towel with their name inscribed, a personalized tote bag where i will put all the items for the OOT bag (along with some extras like makeup concealer, hair spray and gel) and i have also bought them a personalized friends frame. i plan to give them the frames when we return with a picture of us all together. do you think i need to get my girls anything else or is this good enough? your thoughts?
  7. congrats on becoming a Mrs! sounds like you had an amazing time! i'm also getting married at the RIU Negril. i have a few questions... 1. did you pay extra for the dj? how much did they charge you if you did? 2. do you have pictures of the setup for the ceremony and reception you can share?
  8. she has been very helpful and even sent me a lengthy email of her recommendations so i can prepare my face/skin for the wedding. i really think i'm going to book her!
  9. here is a link to some of the photos she sent me. so far - i really like her!Flickr: Tamara Scott - Makeup's Photostream
  10. i just called her and she charges $100 which includes a trial and her transportation. she is located in Kingston, but is willing to travel to Negril. she said she may have to add a couple more dollars to that cost in order to travel to Negril (gas). she is sending me pictures tonight, as soon as she sends them to me - i will post them.

  12. congrats! i love all the piggies! it's so cute! it's great to see you were able to look at the important thing in all of this...marrying your true love!
  13. i think it's a little to much. i know how you feel b/c my FI and i are doing the same thing with our bridal party. we're paying for most of their stay in JA, but the only reason why we decided to do this is b/c we trust these people and we know that if something happens they'll give us the money back. in fact we have not put down any money for anyone who has not put down their own deposit.
  14. there is alos a fee for drinks for a cocktail party. if you look at my other previos posts on this thread, i posted a pdf file that explains that.
  15. hi NegrilB, welcom eto the forum! i'm not sure if this menu has changed but at least you'll have an idea. i think they are both pretty much the same, but it's what sent me. Hors'duevres 2009.doc SELECTION OF HORS D.doc
  16. Hi Ashley, i'm getting amrried at the RIU Negril on August 14th. when i asked Dionne about a private reception she originally told me it would be $500 for 2 hours and $1000 for 4 hours. when i confirmed what i wanted she told me the prices increased too. i told her what she originally quoted me and she said she will honor that since that is what she mentioned first. i suggest if you really want that private reception - push for the originally quoted price. and if you have the email where she quoted you a $1000 for 4 hours - i would send it to her again. that's what i did to her and she gave in. they cannot switch up the price on you whenever they want. they have to honor the price they originally quoted.
  17. hi...i'm actually a native of teh Dominican Republic. brugal is sold in small bottles. if you want to buy them in Washington Heights i would suggest to go to any liqour store in Washington or there is a liquor store in 207th street by the bridge in between the Bronx and Manhattan. they should sell them there. if you are taking them with you to DR...i would suggest buying them there. they are alot cheaper and you can find them from any local vendor. you can also check at the duty free shop at the airport in DR. i remeber everytime my dad goes he buys i believe its a like a 5 gallon bottle of black label (it's so big it has a crane to pour!) for like $120. that's super cheap for black label. another type of liqour i would suggest is "mama juana" it's a local specialty. or if you want to save some more money - try Presidente beer or Quisqueyana beer.
  18. ok cool. any my name's Isaura - or you can call me Isy (not easy, but e-c. just need to clarify. LOL)
  19. i don't think you need to get your parents anything material wise. for my parents, i plan to write them a letter a week before the wedding thanking them for everything and i also plan to set aside some time to be with just my parents. i think my parents would appreciate being with their daughter one last night before they give her away i think it's the thought that counts and to show your parents that you're still their little girl!
  20. hey Janice, we're actually arrivng the 11th and are leaving the 18th. we're going to have a 2nd honeymoon sometime in February. my FI's gonna need to be back early so he can prepare for the school year...hopefully that does happen. we just found out that NY board of education is freezing new hires for now. so although he has an interview coming up...we don't even tknow if he can get hired! i really hope they lift this because otherwise we are not going to be able to afford renting an apt on this salary... i sound so selfish though. sorry to hear about your FI losing his job! this economy stuff really sucks right now!! i really hope things get better b/c i'm seriously tired of this!!! well when we get closer i'll let you know what room we'll be in so we can meet up - at least for cocktails! i'll be watching you on your wedding too! my FI wants to do the beach ceremony, but i don't want to set my sights on that just yet. i want to make sure it's a beautiful as it is in pictures first!
  21. Hi Juniorbaby01, 1st off, congrats! your wedding looks like it was amazing!! and you looked so beautiful! i'm so glad i found this review - it's a wealth of information! we're getting married at the RIU in August and i have a couple of follow up questions for you. 1. do you have the general manager's contact information? i'd love to get in contact with him. i've been trying for months to get the WC to waive the day pass for a makeup artist i would liek to hire and she immediately told me no. although i have heard of other brides getting waived. i just think it's a little ridiculous of them wanting to charge a day pass for someone who is not consuming anything at all! 2. how did you manage to maek reservations for all your guests ahead of time to visit the restaurants? i really would love to do that for my guests. 3. i see that you held your rehearsal dinner at Sir Andrews. did they charge you extra for this? i asked to have a rehearsal dinner done the night before the wedding (more like a welcome dinner) and again the WC said she was unable to do that because there were other people in the hotel and she could not maek a reservation for that large of a group. i don't even care if it's semi-private. i'm having about 50 guests too. i tried asking about a cocktail reception and they want to charge me $1,500 for just an hour and that only includes liqour and appetizers - not even food! 4. can i please have the makeup artist's contact information? she did a great job and i would love to check out her prices. i appreciate any information you can give me. i'm pretty close to my date so i would love to work all this out! i hope you can help me!! thanks again!
  22. if your heart is set on JA maybe you should try looking at the RIU hotels in Negril. i believe they are a little less expensive. i've been been to the Tropical Bay and it was beautiful! we're getting married in August at the RIU Negril and we're paying about $1800 for 7 nights and 7 days. and if your TA is huffing and puffing b/c u can't make up ur mind...then she's not the best of TA's. she's suppose to be patient and help u in deciding on the resort and be sensitive to the amount of $ u want your guests to spend! at least that's what my TA's doing! good luck with your search!
  23.
