Dinner at Mammee Bay was excellent. None of my guests complained at all about moving to the disco after dinner. But keep in mind that the disco & Mammee Bay are not far away from each other at all. It's literally like right around the corner from each other so its not like my guests had far to go. It was also great to have our private time at the disco, for 2 hours, before it opened up to public. During those 2 hours, we had our first dance, bouquet/garter toss & we gave our speeches there as well. If you did the private reception at the Plantation & then moved to the disco, that walk is a little farther but don't get me wrong, its still not an unreasonable distance and I don't think your guests would complain too much. Afterall, its a walk that they will probably do a few times while staying at the resort anyway! I think that the Plantation is very nice & conveinent if you want to have your reception in one place. For us, the main reason we chose Mammee Bay over the Plantation was because of the $ we saved. Even though Mammee Bay is "semi-private", it totally felt like we were the only group there. All in all, if I had it to do over again, I would do it the same way & wouldn't change a thing. Hope this helps! And thanks for the compliments on the pictures! well we are actaully getting married at RIU Negril. i have been 2 other RIU resorts before, but not to this particular one. in the others, the club was not a far walk at all from the restaurants. i'm hoing it's the same situation. i guess i have 2 talk 2 my FI and see what he wants to do. although he'll just pick whatever is cheaper! i don't think he realizes that we are spending a lot less money then we would have if we decided 2 do everything @ home! so frustrating!! (that was my little venting part..LOL)
  3. i think this is a great post! we are also having a AHR although we're calling it a welcome back party. that's exactly what it's going to be! we both come from Hispanic backgrounds so our families love to party hard! so really...i'm just getting the wedding that i want at an affordable price and making everyone else "happy" with offering them "free food and drinks" for one night. i know it sounds horrible, but i do have quite a few family members who who just attend these kinds of events for the food and liquor. but anyway...we also want to be able to share pictures and video with all of the other people who actually care and just could not afford to make it. we are def not spending a lot of $ on it. i think we're going to spend like $3,000 for AHR.
  4. i'm happy to hear that my homeland is so requested! my parents are originally from Dominican Republic and i have been there plenty of times. as someone who visits the country very often....i have to be honest. i have never really liked Punta Cana - i absoluetely LOVE La Romana!! it is such a beautiful place. yes Punta Cana does have more options for AI resorts, but it is also very city like. as a city overall....it's a little boring. but i might just be saying that becasue i see alot of the same things in other parts of DR. La Romana has so many other things and u def get a feel for what the country is really like. i have stayed at resorts at both places and i remember enjoyin myself a lot more @ LA Romana (i don't really remember their names though). o and the beaches are a lot better then in Punta Cana. if u do stay @ La Romana u can probably take a trip 2 Samana. it's about a 40 min boat ride. it's another island apart of DR n it is abosuletly breath taking! the most beautiful part of the island i have 2 say! i hope my opinions help...its sort of a local's opinion i guess. if u have any more ?'s feel free to ask. good luck!
  5. Yolanda, i saw ur pictures. they look beautiful and u looked great!! i have a question for u...it seems like u had a private or semi-private dinner reception and then went over to the resort club for the party potion of ur reception. i'm thinking about doing that. i do want to have a private dinner and i have the option of holding the dancing part of the night at the same place. or i can rent the resort club for 2 hrs. since it seems like thats what you went for...how did that go? how did ur guest feel about moving to a differnt area? was it ideal to move to the club or would u have ratehr stayed in the same area? ur thoughts r much appreciated!
  6. my resort is providing the transportation. so in essence...the guests are paying for it. it comes with their package.
  7. i can email them to you if you want. i kinda dont like that option she gave you! i mean like u said it is an all inclusive resort! the menu option we are thinking about is $45 per person. which is suppose 2 include bar service. omg...i'm getting so worried right now!

We have booked a private reception for 4 hours. So i was told the meal would take 2 hours and then we are hoping to have a some sort of dance in the other two hours. As for the decorations, I am not expecting much for the reception but that is okay with me. I think you can buy centerpieces from the florist though. When is your wedding? Would you mind posting the menu options, I think I read above that you said you had them.. i totally agree with you! i think she would make her job alot easier if she would take some time out to throughly respond to all ur questions! i do understand she's busy...but thats just how i would approach it! anyway...thats good to know that you have the option of having the dancing portion at the same place. i'd be happy to share the menus with you...i just don't know how 2 do that here! can u give me some guidance or @ least tell me where i can find directions on how to do that?
  9. hi ladies, would your marriage certificate from Jamaica be legal in New York/United States? i'm wondering if i'm going to have to get a marraige certifcate at home before we leave to Jamaica.
  10. jamaicabride...seems like you have been in touch with Dionne. are you only having a private dinner or are you also using shadows for the dancing portion of the night? have they told you what kind of decorations they will provide?would you happen to know what the tables look like? i'm trying to figure out what i should do for centerpieces...
  11. i LOVE this!!! i was actually looking for somethin glike this!!! i wanted to have an actually bag or box as oppossed 2 a tote bag. thanks for the info!

Most of the pics we took at Shadows didn't turn out b/c we forgot to turn on the flash, so these don't really show much. But like I said before, we really enjoyed it. Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket pearlygirl...thanks so much for all ur responses! they are really helpful! i hope u don't mind if i come back to u with more questions! i think ur right about the chair covers...they look good and i don't think i'll be needing any chair covers. i may want to probably order extra flowers or something for the sand ceremony table...just 2 give it a lil umph! thanks again!

  14. i wish i could help you. i'm getting married there in August, but don't know what any of them look like. i do have menu options though if you want that. have you been in touch with the WC Dionne?
  15. i have to be honest with u...we had a travel agent who was not very familiar with planning destination weddings n i was loosing my mind!!! we ended up firing her, b/c she didnt seem like she knew what she was doing, was insulting 2 me n wanted $ in advance w/o even even giving us a contract! on top of that she constantly gave us false information!! once i got involved with destination weddings.com my mind was more at ease. to me it seems liek the resort don't have a quick response unless they are dealing with someone who've they dealt with before and often. it's good 2 have that name sometimes. just something to think about!

I also can't comment on having an iPod playlist or having someone announce your arrival. Sorry, I wish I had more information for you! o wow...i guess i confused your review! sorry!! can i ask you a few questions? how was the ceremony decorated? what package did you choose? we're going with the royal package - but i'm not sure what that entales. did u have chair covers? our packagedoes not come with the chair covers, but i don't know if it's owrth thinking about. this would help me out soooo much. thank you for letting me know!! we just want to budget everything in advance before we head off to Jamaica.

  18. i did. i'm getting married on August 14th 2009. i've been to Negril, jamaica already and stayed at the RIU Tropical bay palace before they reconstructed. i know the atmosphere of the resort and what to expect in terms of the employees and service. but i don't ever remember seeing a wedding when i went. i just want some details of what to expect the day of the wedding. i am having a hard time finreviews of RIU Negril, which makes me kind of nervous. theres not much i can do now that i've reserved the date and all. i just hope its worth the stress. i did check out her review, but since she did the actual wedding offsite, it didnt help me much. i kinda already have a feel for what the resort will be like. have you made your decision yet?
  19. Hi, has anyone gotten married at the RIU Negril and did a private reception and sit down dinner? how was it? do you have any pictures to share? how was the setup? what do the chairs and tables look like? do they provide linens, etc.? i'd like to have a sit down dinner but have no idea what to expect. i want to bring my centerpieces from home wish i knew how the room was decorated. i'm also wrroed about not having a DJ. we can't afford to have one so we're just having an IPod playlist goign which i don't have a problem with. but i wish i had someone to announce us coming into the room, setup the 1st dance, the dance with my dad and my FI's dance with his mom. sort of like a master of ceremonies. any recommedations for that? thanks!
  20. it's not as bad as many people think. i've had it done several times, whatever pain you have is def worth it! i would tell the person who's doing it for you to keep talking to you. although they pretty much know to do this, it distracts you from the pain. i once got it done and the woman didn't talk 2 me at all...thts the most painful one out of all the ones i got! o, and another tip...don't pre-shave! it's more painful!
  21. Money clips are usually a great get...especially if you get them personalized!
  22. i just got the order and i am so happy that ordered from there. the paper is soo worth the money. even though its the same price as in a staples store. its pretty think paper and has a beautiful layout! i recommend thgis site to anyone!
