  1. Im planning on buying Spicy Mayan Hot Chocolate as favors for our guests in Toronto. The store selling it to me mentioned I should look into if we are allowed bringing it across the boarders. Im not sure where prepackaged dry goods stands. Does anyone know if this is allowed?
  2. We are having a Groom pinata for everyone to beat on at the reception. I need ideas for what to put in it. There will be 2 children and the rest are adults. Obviously, some candy is a start. I am also thinking of throwing in some lotto tickets, gift certificates, and maybe an iPod shuffle. What are some ideas that adults would like??

  4. Are we still hoping for the resort to be reopened tomorrow?? I think the last date I heard was reopening Oct 16th, but moving all weddings until Nov 1st? I still havent heard anything from the resort and Im leaving in a couple days to go away. I have left a messages and emailed, but not a word. Im kinda fed up with this lol. Not to be the party pooper, but this really has sucked the wind out of my sails regarding the whole wedding planning.
  5. News like this is always terribley disturbing and sad. Its a shame that these things happen when people work so hard and save to go on vacation just to have a good time and end up getting hurt or killed because someone didnt do their job. I hope the persons responsible for this are shut down and held responsible so this doesnt happen to anyone else. My thoughts are with their families.
  6. I was told that it doesnt really matter what kind of lotion you use from a friend who works at a salon. She said that bronzers are kinda a waste of money because it is not a permenant result, it just dyes your skin. Personally, I use anything that is all natural and leaves my skin really soft. I figure tanning beds are bad enough that theres no point in adding in any artificial chemicals. One other thing I would recommend is putting on some SPF chapstick before going in. The beds can dry out your lips and burn them.
  7. There is no way that I want to get rid of her. Ive been thinking about it more and I honestly dont think Ide be able to ever. Its so hard trying to make him understand. He comes from a culture that has no respect for animals and dont keep pets, so this is really the first time hes had to live with one. Its so hard to change someones mind and show them how great pets are when they have been raised not to think that. My mom is so worried over the situation because like some of you said, what will happen with kids if he cant deal with a cat? Im starting to really wonder if there is a way to fix this, or if I should be moving on.
  8. Okay so I know there is a lot of animal lovers on this forum (Ive seen the adorable pics!), myself included. I have a beautiful and sociable kitty that is about 2 and a half years old. I have had a cat since I was a baby and when my old when died, I got the one I currently have the day after. The problem now is that FI is not an animal lover at all. He thinks she is a waste of time and money to have in the house and would prefer if I got rid of her. He doesnt want to have a pet in the house with children and says he wont start trying as long as she is here. He is so insistant that he uses it as a bargaining chip for everything. She mainly lives in our basement because I believe she senses how much he doesnt like her and she stays clear of him. He has so many rules for her, ie not allowed on carpet, furniture, or touching clothing and will yell at her and scare her if she breaks any rules. I find this rediculous. I do not want to get rid of her because the only option I have is to take her to a shelter and I dont think I have the ability to do that to her. I have just moved to a new town and dont know anyone who can take her. Has anyone ever gotten rid of a pet? How were you able to do it?
  9. Have all the November brides recieved emails from the WCs? I still havent heard a peep from anyone and Im leaving to go on vacation soon. Should I just send them a list of guests anyway to be sure?
  10. I think my FIL's are the sweetest people. I have only known them for about 2 years and dont live close enough to visit more than 2 times a year. They have always gone out of their way to make me feel welcome and like family. However, I still feel like we dont have a lot to talk about for most of the time. I would love to have a closer relationship with them, but it is hard being so far away. The rest of the family are awesome people and we get along really well. I would like to be able to open up more with FMIL and FFIL though. What have some of you girls done to try and bridge the gap a little more??
  11. I dont enjoy sugary stuff so when I had mine out last year I went on my "baby food" diet lol. Pretty much I would make sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots, turnip, any veggie that can be mashed, and mashed them up! On top of that I made things like butternup sqaush soup and banana smoothies. Anything that was smooth enough to drink out of a mug and didnt have little seeds (like strawberries) and filled me up. Veggies have a lot of nutrients and fiber so I would feel full after eating them and didn't have to resort to ice cream. I also kept up with my vitamins since I was worried I was missing out on them by being limited in what I could eat. I actually ended up losing 5 pounds unintentionally from the whole thing. Also, its hard to feel thin and cute when you have chipmunk cheeks. I looked like a bobble head doll and didnt leave the house!! But it will be over before you know it! The second day was the worst but after that it was steady improvement. Good luck, hunnie!
  12. Hey Marni! I will be at Dreams Tulum on Nov 10th and married on Nov 13th (hopefully!). There is a tonne of wonderful DT brides on here. Dont hesitate to ask questions like I did, they really do know their stuff! Good luck!
  13. Heres some more info online.... Marryus.org :: Ministerial Associates Inc.:: Toronto Civic Wedding Chambers (City Hall) Ontario Central Forms Repository - Form Identification (application for marriage licence) Settlement.Org Links to: http://www.gov.on.ca/ont/portal/!ut/p/.cmd/cs/.ce/7_0_A/.s/7_0_252/_s.7_0_A/7_0_252/_l/en?docid=004444 (ontario legal ceremony info) I will be doing this in a month so I can let you know how it goes if you like. I also would prefer to just sign some papers, but its kinda like taking an oath I guess. We are thinking about doing it when we get back from Mexico so it doesnt take away from the wedding there.
  14. Hey, I just called Toronto City Hall about this the other day. The lady told me that you have to get a marriage licence application form, fill it out and take it to a place that issues marriage licences. We are going to the civic center in Etobicoke. Then you take that licence to where you want to get married (in our case City Hall) and they will do it. They have to do a certain amount of the ceremony text for it to be considered ligit. You cant just sign the papers, I asked. They are really busy on Saturdays, so if you are sticky about what day you want to have an appointment, Ide call ahead and book. Hope that helps!
  15. Hey!!! I used to live in Wolfville until this summer, we were practically neighbours! Welcome to the forum. This is the best one out there. You can never be too early to start thinking about what you want, in my opinion. We used Lisa Geddes in Halifax as our travel agent. She is supposed to be really good with wedding groups. If you want her info send me a message. Good luck!
  16. Hey gals, Im curious if anyone knows if the prices we were given for a wedding at DT will be honored at other resorts? I have been sticking to a pretty tight budget to make everything we want happen, and Im nervous that if we had to move resorts it may end up costing more and we might have to sacrifice some stuff.
  17. Okay well its definately a relief knowing that this is somewhat "normal". I feel better knowing that there are other people who have gone through it and still had a great wedding. My Mom said my Dad was the exact same way when they got married and its just guys being guys! Hes lucky I love him or he'd be getting a smackdown for sure!! Thanks guys!
  18. Hey Ladies, Im wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and can share some wisdom! My fiance and I have been together for a couple years and have gotten along great the whole time. However, now that its getting closer to the wedding I feel like the stress is getting between us. When we first got engaged, he was so excited and picked a date for the wedding and was always talking about it. Now he doesnt want to have any conversations regarding the wedding and will walk out of the room if I mention anything. He says the whole thing is stressing him out too much and I should just not worry about it either. This got even worse when our resort (Dreams Tulum) was closed down last week. With only a month to go, no resort as of right now, no answers, and a shut-off groom, Im really not looking forward to the wedding. We are already common law and I was fine just the two of us eloping to begin with. He was the one who wanted to invite the guests. Now I feel like Im left alone figuring this all out on my own and that the vacation will be a let down to our guests. It bugs me because I read about lots of other brides on here that are so excited and it makes me feel like I should be too. Did anyone else feel like they were disappointed and not looking forward to their own wedding? Does it go away once you actually get to the destination? I hope this feeling goes away! Thanks for listening!!!
  19. Great news! I hope everything goes wonderfully for you guys. Cant wait to read what is going to be one heck of a review when you get back!
  20. I went to university full time and worked about 45 hours a week last year. I worked at a hotel and they were more than understanding if I had to leave a little early. I would work there during the day and then take classes until 9:30at night. The only reason I was able to do it was because I had no time to spend my money, I was always too busy! I dont recommend that at all. I was so burned out at the end. Try to find somewhere to work that is understanding and will be flexible. But whatever you end up doing the best advice is to have a balanced life, and make sure you take care of yourself as well! Good luck!!
  21. Hola! We are going to Dreams Tulum because we heard wonderful reviews abouit it. I also have a friend who chose Grand Pallidum because she has been there and loved it. Try looking into those?
  22. Welcome! Hope you find lots of great info here.
  23. Welcome to the forum! I am getting married in a month and will be submitting a review of Dreams Tulum (hopefully) after that.

The TA said that she didn't think that they would allow children at the Secrets resorts since my wedding is so far out (June 27). I am not sure if they would be willing to make exceptions for those being married earlier. Another idea that was mentioned during her visit was that they may be taking people to Secrets for the ceremony, but then back to Dreams for the reception, perhaps you could see if this would be an option? I would also hope that Dreams Cancun would honor the room rates guests were quoted at Dreams Tulum since it is more expensive, as well as honoring the wedding package and "extras" prices since they are more expensive at DC as well. I am looking forward to hearing how things are turning out for everyone as time moves on, I am trying to be thankful that my wedding isn't until June, but it's still an added stress that I didnt need to deal with. My heart truly goes out to those of you that are being married in the near future and are caught up in this situation. I just heard from Rocio from Secrets Silversands and he says that they will not make any exceptions with children. Anyone travelling with children has no other choice than Dreams Cancun. Kinda sucks, but its only fair. The other people at Secrets are paying to stay at an all-adult resort, they prolly wouldnt appreciate it. Please Please Please Please reopen Dreams Tulum!!!!
