  1. Everyday I keep coming on here hoping to see an update that DT has reopened...I'm so anxious! I was wondering how the other resorts are able to cope with the added guests and weddings?? I guess I am under the impression that Oct-Nov are busy wedding months so I thought they would be booked right up. I wish there was something we could do besides just wait....
  2. I know someone who made pomanders by taking a skewer to make a hole through the styrofoam ball and looping a ribbon in it and knotting it at the bottom. Then she poked holes for the silk flowers and put hot glue in the holes and stuck the flowers in those. They turned out great.
  3. I agree. I think Dreams Cancun is a nice place, but we have been to Cancun before and really dont want to have our wedding there. I love how isolated Dreams Tulum was compared to the Cancun places. I am hoping that they will consider sending us to Puerto Aventuras if it comes down to that.
  4. Hey everyone, It sounds like they are changing the date of expected reopening from Oct 6 to October 13. I have gotten an email from Monica the manager: Thank you for contacting us: We are still uncertain how long it will take for the authorities to review our permits and/or for us to obtain the parole so we are taking the precaution of relocating all arrivals until Monday, October 13th 2008, this action is necessary in order to ensure guests will have an uninterrupted holiday experience with all the services and facilities they expect. We will continue to relocate the guests to Dreams Cancun and Secrets Silversands. I do have faith though that no matter what the people at Dreams Tulum really do want to help anyone affected any way they can. Its nice to think that they are willing to help.
  5. I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some recommendations. I am supposed to be getting married at Dreams Tulum in early November. However, future hubby and I are taking off in October to go on our own trip to unwind first. Now that Dreams Tulum has closed down, maybe temporarily, Im just trying to find out what options are out there. I do not want to get married on a beach so I dont want to wait to be sent to Dreams Cancun (worst case senario). Can anyone recommend any other resorts with a chapel on site, or nearby. I really like the hacienda style chapels. I would also be willing to commute my guests a little bit to the site if it is worth it. Thanks!
  6. My guests are paying 1608 from Toronto for 7 nights all inclusive in November. Some were able to shop around online and save a bit, but not a whole lot. My guests from Nova Scotia are paying around 1750. We booked through Air Canada Vacations.
  7. Hey girls, What a situation!! Has any DT brides, besides the ladies this coming week, moved their weddings yet? We are scheduled to arrive there on Nov 10, but we have taken time off to go away and have some time to ourselves starting Oct 30. So Im trying to decide if we should start looking around to move resorts, but I dont know where to start? I contacted my travel agent but she refuses to tell me what my options are because she is convinced everything will be fine. Im hoping it will be fine too in a couple of weeks, but I like to be prepared. My biggest concern is that I wasnt planning on having an outdoor ceremony. We were so pumped about the chapel at Dreams Tulum, which is what sold us on the resort. Im not interested in having a beach wedding (although they are beautiful, just not my thing). Are there any other resorts that have a chapel? Or are there any churches that offer non-demoninational ceremonies in the area? So does anyone know the process of changing resorts at this time? I went with Air Canada Vacations and they wont talk to me because I booked through an agent, who isnt concerned. Suggestions?? Lastly, I admit that Im really amazed by some of the other brides who are having to deal with this so close to their weddings. I told my fiance about them and we both agreed that we would never be able to have such a great attitude towards the situation! Its showed me a lot that its really not so much about the small stuff...
  8. Welcome! Where in Saskatchewan are you from? I live in Northern Alberta about 20 mins from Saskatchewan and nobody here seems to do the destination wedding thing or has really heard of it?!
  9. Welcome! I promise you will find amazing reviews and information on here that you can't find anywhere else online. Congrats!
  10. Congrats and welcome. This is a great place to find ideas and snoop around! Enjoy!
  11. Hey Stacey, I was in the exact same boat as you. I also just moved to Alberta from NS and couldn't find anywhere locally to do my invites, ect. I ended up doing them myself which I totally regret because I didn't like how they turned out. I would recommend finding an online company that can ship to you. A friend told me that there are a lot of places based in Toronto that will consult over the phone and then ship you the finished result. If that doesn't work for you, try Staples if there is one near you. I saw that they have some kits you can do on your computer. Good luck!
  12. Hey ladies, I was wondering if any of you brought or had children at your weddings. We are bring 2 little flowergirls with us and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Kids Club or any childrens services. Their parents are a little nervous about making sure the girls are watched carefully if they leave them at the Kids area. As I'm writing this I'm realizing how much there is to do in less than 2 months! I have to admit I've been procrastinating too much of this planning business!:

Have there been many other brides who have found date twins on here? Im so glad we found out about each other so we can plan better. I wanted to ask you what you you and your guests were planning to do after 10:30. We are planning a bonfire afterparty on the beach and think we might hire the firedancers. I think the only other option is the disco? Let me know what you guys are thinking. Maybe we can come up with some good ideas.

I have to admit that finding this forum has been the most comforting thing that could have happened! Thanks for all the advice!
  15. I was just wondering if anyone has been getting emails back from Landy lately. She hasn't returned any of mine in almost a month and needless to say I'm getting a little worried. I have to have some details confirmed with her so I can get the information to be printed for menus, programs, ect. Has anyone tried calling them before? Does it help to get answers or no? I have to admit that we are starting to regret our decision of choosing Dreams Tulum. So far we have found the wedding coordinators to be unhelpful. I imagine they must be very busy ladies, but as I am leaving to go on vacation for a couple of weeks before the wedding I only have about a month to finish all the planning. Any suggestions?? Also, here is my info, I dont think I gave it when I first joined. Username: Mono Amor Names (optional, first names only): Leanne Date & Time: November 13, 2008, 4:00 Wedding package: Ultimate Wedding extras (and cost charged): Bonfire Afterparty ($40), Firedancers ($250 for 15 mins), Pinata ($40)...so far Type of ceremony: Religious Coordinator: Landy Number of guests: 35 confirmed, more RSVPs to come Ceremony location: Chapel, but since we have about 40 guests we may have to switch to the front staircase location (not as private) Reception location: Ballroom Photographer: Resort Videographer: Resort Special arrangements / activities: Deep-sea fishing (guys outing), Playa del Carmen (girls shopping trip), trip to Cancun for bachelor/bachlorette parties. Lastly, does anyone have any good pictures of the smaller ballrooms? Im just trying to get an idea of what Im working with. Thanks!!!!!!
  16. I just moved from the East Coast to Northern Alberta. Because of the move we wanted a destination wedding so that it would be easier to plan.

TIA!!! Hi Neen, We are planning on playing instrumental spanish guitar during our dinner. We figure that having soft instrumental music will make it easier for people to converse and focus on dinner until we want to start dancing. My fiance is Latin and recommended some songs that I love for the playlist: Gypsy Kings-Barcelona -Alegria -Salsa de la Noche Desperado-Slash If you like that type of music, let me know, I have a lot of suggestions.
