  1. Hi there, I beleive that if you are going to send stuff down there ahead of time you will need to allow yourself extra extra time. I read somewhere that you should hire a "customs broker"....they assist with customs procedures and how to handle taxes. To me it sounds like a lot of work with too much worry involved that things may not make it there in time. Or they could get there too early and get mishandled and lost in the shuffle. I have decided to just carry it all down there with me. I plan on doing a dry run of how I will pack beforehand. Most fragiles will go in my carry on. That way if it breaks I know that it was my fault not the airlines. As for my OOT bags, I am buying the snacks, toiletries, and first aid nick nacks when I get there, I read up that there is a Walmart nearby my hotel destination. Hope this was somewhat useful.
  2. Well Kathy, Sarah, and Jenn: I feel like the rug has been completely pulled out from under me. I found out late last night on a PV forum that the "new" dreams tower is now closed for renovations!!!!!!!! Apparently they were going to do renovations in phases and for whatever freakin' reason decided to close the entire club tower until further notice. I just can't believe it. I have been booked in the preferred tower with a jacuzzi suite since Feb 08. I read that they have told future guests they could be put up at Barcello which is a mile down the road and not even close in comparison to Dreams (based on reviews I read). I called my travel agent today and they were completely surprised themselves. The WC at Dreams certainly didn't feel it was necessary to pass this info along to me in her last email either. I emailed her last nite to get info and of course she hasn't responded yet to my panicky email. I am just so pissed. So I don't know what to do. Thankfully I have a short wedding guest list, no more than 20, and about 4 are already staying elsewhere. However I don't understand how they can do this. And can we all be assured we will have a room when we get there. I am not sure how long the hotel has been planning this but they just closed the tower last week. What's even crazier is that you'd think they would want to upgrade the "old" tower, not the new one!!!! That doesn't make any sense! I'm sure for you guys this won't be affecting you because your weddings are later on down the road, but at least now you know. Say a prayer for me that everything works out. Oh yeah and my travel agent tells me that I can change to another hotel without a penalty or additional payment....I was like hell NO.
  3. Congrats, lots of good stuff on here!
  4. I don't really have anything new to add. I think everyone offered very valid points. For me personally I chose against a mid summer wedding for two main reasons......Hurricane season and the brutal heat and humidity. The last thing I want is to get all fixed up only to look like a drowned rat walking down the aisle, I do sweat easily though. But you have to think of the guests comfort too. As for the kids being out of school thing, I found that those of my friends invited who do have kids didn't want to bring them anyways.....they wanted to enjoy their vacation sans kids. It's really a matter of what's important to you. If the rainy season is the only thing that bothers you, make sure your hotel of choice has a contingency plan for inclement weather.
  5. Beautiful pics and you can definitely rock that dress...I don't think too many people could given the mermaid style!
  6. Congrats from 1 PV bride to another!!!!!
  7. Congrats, you'll soon be addicted to this site and if you're like me, lose a lot of sleep.

    Congrats and welcome!
  9. Hi Sarah, I too am getting married at Dreams......in just 8 weeks to be exact.....aaaahhhhhhh! I had the hardest time getting in touch with the first WC Gabi and am not having much better luck with Diana the newest WC. I will say though from her most recent emails she seems more organized then Gabi. Anyhoo, about the photographer...I have hired Juan Carlos Tapia, he's primarily located in Cabo but travels all over Mexcio. He actually is a vendor advertising on here. Check out his website it is absolutely amazing. He is pricey but I feel well worth it, I want my memories that are going to last a lifetime look professional and not like your "traditional" put together wedding photos. But other photographers I had looked into included Josef Kandoll W, he has a new website by the way with some great photos. Christine Vincent is in PV already and priced fairly well though she was hard to get a hold of. Elizabth Lloyd, L&A studio, Elizabeth Medina, and Del Sol photography are some others. I hope that helps. Anything else you want to know feel free to ask. Good luck planning!
  10. Those were awesome, I love the ttd where you're laying in the sand kissing!
  11. Those are awesome,I'm excited because I have hired Juan for my wedding as well.
  12. Hi Ikupoo, welcome. I laughed when I read your message.....I love the beach also and my fiance cannot swim nor will he attempt to learn. Yet we chose a destination wedding in Mexico. Good luck!
  13. I just did mine and wrote Cocktails and dinner reception to follow.
  14. I don't blame you Amy for being pissed. I would be also. I would definitely get together with her in person and discuss your feelings and find out her reason. At least this way she knows how hurt you are even if she doesn't really have a good reason. You'll feel better getting it off your chest I am sure.
  15. I too have got sucked in and can't seem to turn away. I recently have gotten sucked into watching the original series repeats on Soapnet too. It's about the only quality show on TV anymore.
  16. Hi! Congrats! I too am a North Carolinian. I would recommend doing some research about different destinations before going to talk to a TA. I went to the bookstore a couple afternoons and would read travel magazines and wedding planning books specific to DW. That's how I narrowed down my options before talking to the travel agent. Also consider the time of yr you are going. The high season will obviously be more costly for hotels and airfare. In PV Mexico for instance, high season starts end of November and I think runs into APril. However the rainy season(and low season) runs from June to October. Also consider the legalities of getting married in different countries...if you are not doing a civil ceremony before you take off. Hope this helps some. Feel free to ask questions. Heather
  17. Wow looks like you all had fun....I am so jealous you guys are so hot too.
  18. I have booked him myself for my upcoming wedding in November. I actually am flying him into PV and paying for hotel too. It was much more than what I initially thought I would pay for a photographer but for all the trouble you go thru to have a nice wedding in a beautiful location....I want nice pics to remember it by. I will not have the mariachi band that I really really wanted to for our reception, I will not have centerpieces or decorations and I have not hired a wedding coordinator. Just some things I can cut back on to have a great photographer!
  19. HI there, I am a dreams bride myself. I too had the same difficulty trying to get a hold of the coordinator. My TA helped a lot by her persistence in attempts to contact them. I will say Gaby is slow to respond to my emails and I understand that she also works there as a waitress. She is obviously very busy and needs help. After reading this thread I now realize that this Diana person is her replacement? Hopefully she's a bit quicker with her replies. I have read reviews from other Dreams brides that their coordinator was not the best with communication prior to the big event but in the end everything turned out great. I am hoping the same holds true for me or else... I am just trying to be positive. I woule definitely recommend trying to phone Gabi/Diana.

    Congratulations! Have fun planning!
  21. Mummergrl I feel your pain too. One of the reasons I decided to have a destination wedding in the first place was because my fiance has a small family and group of friends and I didn't want "his side" to be outdone by my side" at a traditional wedding. Especially when most of those people on my side would be friends of the family, not necessarily relatives. To sum it up, it turns out that none of his family is coming at all, which I think is a bunch of crap. His great uncle, who is the closest thing he has to a father, says he can't afford it. However......he goes golfing almost every other day? If he really wanted to go he could give up the golf for a while. Also one of my oldest friends has been on the fence about going....I was in her wedding and have made attempts to get together with her all the time when I am back home to visit. SHe has come to visit me once.....and I have been living away from my hometown for the last 10 yrs. Sorry that's off the topic but it hurts me a little to think that's how much she thinks of me. I try not to let this bother me. In the end just like everyone else has pointed out, it's all about you and your soon to be husband, if it weren't for the 2 of you there wouldn't even be a wedding. So I say screw everyone else and do what you want...it's YOUR DAY!!!!
