  1. Niels408 - you are having the same stress as me - I want all the details worked out, and the hotel (who only responds to emails once/week) is like no worries, you can figue all that later...YIKES! I bought my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses about 2 weeks ago, and we got our groomsmen dresses last week. We did STD almost immediately (we got engaged June 1) and are planning on sending out Boarding Pass invites out in early August, with an rsvp for September 1. Then I can have an accurate count to start doing the OOT bags, favors etc. There is certainly still lots to do, but I feel like getting the attire was a big CHECK on the long list You will feel better once you get that done. Also, some of the stores are saying 2-3 months to get the dress and another month for alternations....so i was concerned about cutting too close. I'm a project manager (my job), so i'm all about eliminating any potential risks - ha ha.
  2. OK - y'all are making me feel better...cards I can handle I agree that it's tricky about putting anything in documents about gifts---we are so thrilled that people are actually coming all the way to MX, that I don't want to presume we will get gifts (though of course secretly i hope we will - ha ha).
  3. BECKS - you are hilarious! I thought the same thing..."no way, would someone do this", but then i just talked to a friend and she said it's likely something that might come up...and I was like WTF?? Seriously - would people seriously think I could possibly get any more sh*t home - especially after ALL the stuff we have to bring with us (OOT bag stuff, favors, BM gifts, centerpieces, dress etc, etc).
  4. For our Married girls - did you have any guests that brought actual gifts to your wedding? OR has anyone seen a nice way to communicate that the preference is for gifts not to be brought (what a hassle it would be to have to get them home). Just looking for past expereinces and ideas on how to handle the wording, and what is the appropriate document for communicating the preference?
  5. URGH - that is what I was afraid of. The internet shows sunset at 5:59 for December...but I guess that means it is probably getting dark for the 20-30 mins prior...maybe we will have to move it to 4pm. I hate to go any earlier...as it really eats into people's day - then again it is OUR WEDDING that they are there for - ha ha.
  6. There is a book called 101 nights of great sex - there are little cards in it - 50 for the guys (to do to the girls) and 50 for the girls (to do to the guys) - some of them are very corny....but others are very sexy, surprising etc. My FI knows it will be a good week, when I'm looking through that book
  7. Hi - what time is everyone getting married at. The hotel has me very scared about our time. We wanted 5pm, and they said there would be no time for photo's, so we changed it to 4:30, but now someone else has said that's still too late. Am curious what everyone's wedding time is. Thanks - Happy day going into a holiday weekend.
  8. yeah - i had a strange Lomas experience when I was there in May. I went to get my "return ticket scheduled (also known as "opportunity for a sales pitch for excursions) and he told me the flight left at 5...and I told them that I understood from my TA that the flight was changed till 12:30...and he argued and argued and told me I was wrong....so I actually believed I was. Then I saw him the next day and he said, oh i was right, and to be here in the lobby at 9. Then the next day, he said, oh 10am is the time (not 9). So the morning we were leaving, I was trying to get a last minute appt with the wedding planner, so i was in the lobby at 9, and lo and behold our van is their to pick us up...(of course we were not ready to leave at 9 ....so they had to wait for us for about 20 mins)...then we get to the airport (myself and my other 180 friends travelling to San Antonio that day) and the Aero Mexico people tell us there is NO FLIGHT at all to S.A. that day....so we are all pissed off and looking for the Lomas guy....who it honestly seemed hid from us for over an hour...it was NOT FUN, and my advice is just be aware of them, and always, always verify their information if you can.
  9. You guys ROCK!!! Thank you for the links and for the suggestion of doing a limo from home to/from the airport......how does anyone EVERY stay on budget when planning a wedding??
  10. It looks great - GO SARAH - she rocks, huh? Zazzle.com for wedding stickers ...never heard of that, but I'm going to check it out too. Thanks
  11. Based on what you are looking for, I think the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar meets your needs - they are in the Riviera Maya, have reasonable rates, a beautiful gazebo to do your wedding in and they are all inclusive and allow children (I'm sure there are many other resorts that meet these requirements, but i like this one). I would recommend finding a GOOD travel agent. I used destinationweddings.com and have been VERY VERY disappointed...so I would not recommend them. Find someone local - i think going in and talking in person makes it much easier (especially when all your planning has to be done with the hotel via email) - at least that is one part you can do face to face. Good luck and try not to stress - you still have a year and everything will come together, I'm sure

    Newbie here

Welcome Amy.......have fun looking around PS - thanks for sharing the tips on the door hangers - i'm definintely going to do those.
  13. Hi Amy - WELCOME!!! You are going to find so much information on here....it's amazing and I find much easier to navigate than the knot. I'm not sure i've done a full day of work since i got engaged - ha ha. HAVE FUN!
  14. Hi, has anyone made arrangements to take a limo to their hotel from the airport? I thought that would be a nice surprise for my FI, but my TA has been no help (what a surprise) in directing me to someone who can do this. Have any other brides taken a limo from the airport to their hotel and back? If so, can you let me know who/how you arranged and the approximate price? THANK YOU!!
  15. Hi ladies - i could find November 2008 brides and January 2009 brides, but couldn't find a place for us December 2008 brides to go - so i thought i would start this - so we can offer each other support..and help keep each other on task. Time is fast approaching......and with my wedding on December 8, i am just starting to work on invitations (boarding passes) today. We want to have invites out by early August. Has everyone else done invites already? Happy Planning - and looking forward to getting to know the other December 2008 Brides! PS - if there is already a December 2008 thread...let me know - i searched, but didn't come up with anything
  16. The new ring is beautiful, but your current one is goregeous also. I believe to exchange (or upgrade) the new ring has to be double the cost of the old. For example if your engagement rings costs $2000 then you could go to Jared, pick a $4000 ring, and Jared would only charge you the additional $2000 (at least that is how Ben Bridge and Americus Diamond work). So, essentially you have to get double the ring you have now - which it sounds like could be a problem. I think Martha's idea of taking the stone from your current one, and putting it into a new setting is a great idea.
  17. I love the shoes and think they will look great! Where did u find them? I'm on the hunt for shoes..and am thinking flip flops for the ceremony and then something with a heel and more dressy for the reception. the one's you chose are great!
  18. Thank you my fellow San Antonio girl - i really, really appreciate that. I will keep posting and reading and sharing.....before and after. I don't think i've done a full day of work since I found this web-site...good thing I work from home - ha ha. THANKS Martha (btw, did you check out the ETS site for job postings?)
  19. Great question...i've been wondering the same thing. I also appear to have just run out of points (as i've been dowloading attachments like a crazy woman these last two days) - so if anyone has lots of points and they'd be willing to share, please feel free - i'm starting to do boarding passes - so i've been opening up and looking at templates (not realizing that it costs me each time i do that) - oops...... I'm constantly thrilled and amazed at the information i find on here....whatever question i have, there seems to be an answer for. Thank you to my friend Ali for directing me to this site - it ROCKS!
  20. ahh...the tough decisions we have to make huh? I've been trying to decide between an i-phone and a Wii - with the wedding coming up, I don't feel I can do both. The new iphone will be better than the old I think - smaller, cheaper and I want to be a "cool kid" ...but I tried the Wii over the weekend (bowiing and tennis) and is was SO FUN.....so now I'm trying to decide which i need (ok want) more - ha ha.
  21. Hi Martha, i live in San Antonio too, and I have been working from home for the last 1 1/2 years - i work for a company called ETS (Educational Testing Services) and there are a few of us that work remotely (they are pretty open to that) at least a few days/week. Check out their web-site (especially if you have a teaching degree) - you may find some work that interests you.
  22. I have been to the Iberostar in Cozumel...and I would say it is definintely not deluxe...and the Lindo, Maya, Beach, Del Mar, Quetzel and Tucan are all MUCH, MUCH nicer! I was there a few weeks ago, and the Maya and Lindo properties are beautiful - the grounds are spectacular with great beach and pools I think Lindo is a good choice, though a little pricier for your guests than the Del Mar or Paraiso Beach.
  23. We found all our groosmsmen and groom attire at a store called Joseph A Banks (i think they are nationwide). They were great to work with, and gave ua 20% of everything. We got silk ivory trousers and a teal/mocha (my colors) hawaiian type shirt for the guys, and my FI is wearing Ivory silk trousers and a beatiful white shirt. He was going to wear the same shirts as the groomsmen, but then we saw this white shirt and when he put it on - i was like "wow, you look like a groom" - so that was the winner!
