  1. If you have a Davids Bridal in your city you should go try them on and see. My dress is long and all lace, I thought it looked great. Now that I found my shoes (little gold sandals with a very small wedge) I keep getting tempted to by more shoes!! It's so hard to stop at one pair! Your dress is gorgeous by the way! So beautiful!
  2. Yep, usually the wedding party and family sell tickets to anyone and everyone they know! Tickets are usually $10 and most socials here have about 250-400 people attending, whether they know they bride and groom or not
  3. I bought these shoes at Davids Bridal for $60. Since then I exchanged my dress for a petite size and now the dress is too short with the shoes. I've decided on barefoot sandals instead. However, these shoes are so pretty and comfy, perfect for walking down a sandy aisle. They are a size 8 but fit more like a size 7. I had them dyed ivory so I am not able to return them. Also, on there are tiny clear sequins sewn on the wedge heel. I would be willing to sell them for $30 plus shipping. Any takers? PM me with any questions.
  4. YAY! I've decided on making these for my wedding too!! I will be making the luminaries before I go and cutting and folding the pom poms ahead of time as well. Our reception will be on the beach so instead of hanging them we will be clipping them onto stands (the tall skinny ones with an alligator clip on the end, like they use in furniture showrooms). The stands are really thin (think a straightened out coat hanger size) and will sit above the guests heads. I'm also thinking of adding these cute illuminated picture frames but with white frames and pictures of FI and I when we were kids.
  5. In Manitoba (Canada) we call them "socials." Tickets are usually $10 and guests drink and dance like crazy! There's always a silent auction and usually a 50/50 draw. Another tradition is the "late lunch," which consists of platters of sausage, rye bread, pickles and cheeses. Tons of people who get married here have them. We're calling ours Hallowedding Social and we're hosting it on Halloween night, costumes will be mandatory!

  7. I'm using the pom poms and luminaries for my wedding. I did see other types of flower kits in the Martha Stewart area at Michaels though.

(ha, I wrote "so far" like I can fit any more stuff in there! I didn't realize I had so much til I just looked in the closet lol) Oh and I'm going BM dress shopping tomorrow. I'm excited about that. I'm going with my moh, bm and fmil. Yay! Where did you get your aloe and spanish for dummies books? I haven't been able to find either of these at a reasonable price yet.
  9. Our travel agent did all the communications with the wedding coordinator until we were fully booked and had our wedding date set. Then she sent me the wedding coordinators info and wished me luck
  10. Those are really nice. Are the covers just plain with the "passport" on them? I'm a little confused about what there would be to personalize. I've been looking at these for my BM's but they all have that american logo on the front and we're Canadian

  12. I've added new pictures to a thread I started a while ago. Is there a way to add **updated** to the title of the thread?
  13. Okay, so I went to DB this weekend and tried on "the brown dress" again. I found it to be really fussy. The little cap sleeves didn't fit comfortably and it was really low in the chest. Also, proportionally I don't think it will fit my sister well. I did find another dress, available in chocolate brown. I think it's a good compromise between what the girls liked and what I like. In the photo the dress has a "balloon" bottom. I don't think it's super flattering but I think we could have it altered to have a regular hem. The Mocha colour will work with all the other things we have decided on and I think the cut will flatter all the girls. What's your opinion on this one * please excuse the unsightly tan lines. I'm heading to the lake for the week and plan to take care of those.
  14. We decided to send out STD's/Invitations in one shot. Most of our guests had already been notified about our intentions of having a destination wedding. We also have a wedding website up and running. Our vision for our wedding is simple/casual/modern with a touch of rockstar (my FI). So we may send out a reminder but not a more formal invitation. The invitations were inspired by another BDW bride and her photographer Nathanial Thompson, who created beautiful STD cards. Nathanial was wonderful and took beautiful photos and sent them to us within a week! Thanks, both of you!!! You can view Nathanial's photos @ nathanielsphotos.com, he's also on the forum. One of our groomsmen then created these beautiful invitations. *The photos are from an invite that's been in my purse for a couple weeks so please excuse the creases. The invites were sent out in hot pink envelopes with little gold embossed flip flops in the corner and I got really cute stamps with hot pink flowers on them. We used a gold foil label, with a palm tree in the corner, for the return address. These were placed on the back of the envelopes.
  15. We are getting married January 19th, at Playa Pesquero in Holguin Cuba. So far about 20 of our guests have booked and we're thinking probably about 10-20 may still book. Here's what I've got done so far: Booked the resort and confirmed our wedding date. Decided on TA Sent out invitations (we are not doing separate invitations and STD) Created wedding website Booked a photographer Bought my dress, veil, headband and shoes Bought bridesmaids dress (currently rethinking and possibly buying new dresses) Picked out Grooms suit (still need to decide on shirt and tie, maybe when we get the BM dresses figured out) Started picking out OOT bag contents I am really excited to start DIY projects and OOT bags. So far I've run into some delays because it's hard to get stuff shipped to Canada and I don't have a very clear idea of how many people are coming. I'm going to DB this weekend to pick up the dress. Here's hoping it won't need any alterations. Oh yeah, in the city where I live we have "wedding socials". We've booked a hall, and a DJ and my sister is working on decorations, and I'm gathering tons of donations for the silent auction prizes. We're calling it a Hallowedding social. It's basically a big Halloween party that people buy tickets to. We'll also be having a silent auction and selling drinks. Everyone here has them, people love the party and the bride and groom can end up making a lot of money. I have started looking at venues for our AHR as well. What's next??

I can definitely understand how hard it is to come by really good girl friends. On the other hand, a night of playing Settlers with the boys sounds terrific to me!!! My family just bought the Cities and Knights expansion pack, and I'm dying to find someone out there who actually knows how to play it! (I am officially a geek, I know it)

Thanks so much for the photos! It's great to see the dresses on actual people. They all look beautiful. Are the other dresses in the photo from Davids Bridal as well?? This is all confirming what I thought, I should change the dresses. My FI is going to be excited about all the new brown options

If she choses the same one, great, if not, no big deal since the MOH dress is often different. Just an idea. She is my MOH, why didn't I think of that!!!!! Even if I ordered the same dress as the other girls and hope for the best, she could always exchange it for something else if she's STILL not happy.
  19. Thanks so much ladies! I think you're right. It's hard changing when you've had a certain vision for so long. Unfortunately the dresses that I bought were a final sale. It's not a huge deal because they were on sale and I paid for them so long ago, it's water under the bridge at this point. I had thought about choosing a colour and letting them pick their own dresses but I really like how it looks for them to all have the same dress. Also, my sisters idea of what is flattering and mine are pretty different. I wonder how soon I can get her to DB??
