  1. yes, this was horrible -- I got clinton's statement this morning - thought you guys might like to read it: Senator Clinton gave the following statement earlier this morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. CST. “I just learned of the death of a Dallas police officer in a devastating accident that occurred as these motorcycle officers were leading our cars to this site. We are just heartsick over this loss of life and I have asked that my condolences be conveyed to the family. I will call them as soon as it is appropriate to do so. I have placed a call to the Chief of Police expressing my sympathy. This reminds us, once again, what our men and women in law enforcement do every single day and it is important that we respect and appreciate their service. I certainly am grateful for all they do for me and more importantly what they do for citizens in cities like Dallas and others across our country. “I just want to express my deepest condolences to the family and to the Dallas police department on this tragic, tragic loss.” -------- From what I heard, she ended up canceling the rally she was heading to -- awful hard to be positive after something like this. Our prayers are with the family and department.
  2. Yari -- You are freaking out about a 300 electricity bill!! -- I need to move!!! Our's have been averaging about 275 this winter..... and of course there are talks of more rate hikes!! Yes..... Props to Verizon for understanding and taking care of the situation..... although I still am angry that the sales guy didnt know what he was selling!! oh well - I really would have freaked out if they tried to make me pay it! Christine...... I wish I had any other choice than comcast..... for TV, we have no choices unless we go to Dish! My family back home (near you) are all on verizon fios for tv and love it..... I'd much rather give verizon my money than comcast, but Verizon doesnt plan to have fios in my area for another year or 2!
  3. Seriously? - I opened my bill today and see 1,000 in charges!! I normally pay 110/month!! After throwing a little hissy-fit -- I called in and found out what happened... turns out when one of the sales people called me to update my plan so it would be cheaper for me....... he LIED!! -- He said data would be 1.99/MB -- but apparently he didnt know it did not apply to my phone! -- Luckily, Verizon did provide good customer service and credited me back almost $900...... but none-the-less..... shouldnt the sales go KNOW WHAT HE IS SELLING before he just makes stuff up. ABSURD! ----- Just had to rant about that!! -- I will say that my experiences with Verizon are still about a million times better than with my cable TV/internet provider -- COMCAST!! ------ dont get me started on them!!

  5. getting married on my brithday! - congrats and welcome!
  6. Yeah, ask your university how it will be viewed..... I know my wife is working full time, in addition to taking 2 classes this semester and doing her thesis this semester. -- Its crazy for her, but I try to help by doing what I can around the house to make things easier for her. Whatever you decide - you are still going to be crazy busy - so try to always make the best of your time! Good luck!
  7. I went to Mon Ami Gabi at paris recently and had horrible service there - I would not recommend it. Many of the other recommendations on here are great though. -- The sky is the limit really - there are so many great places!
  8. just to play devil's advocate here.... IMO lists are a horrible thing to give to a photog -- especially to one who does not do it professionally. If you are doing a list, I'd keep it to the posed photos only. Of course, my standpoint on shooting a wedding is capturing the day as it unfolds in front of me - the shots that result are a factor of the day...... not the other way around. If you give a list, to any photog - novice or pro - then the concern is not about capturing the day -- but fulfilling a list of requirements. In my approach, I shoot every wedding with the same approach -- of course the details shots are grabbed during the slow times..... and of course we run thru the formal shots.... but every other shot is a direct result of what is going on in front of me. -- Your photographer should really act as your shadow.... and your fiance's, and your parents, and his parents... etc.. -- your photographer should be everywhere at every moment -- looking for moments as they happen. -- not trying to setup the next shot on the list. When you give this list to a novice, it is adding extra- not-needed pressure on a photographer that might not feel 100% comfortable doing a wedding in the first place. Of course -- this is coming from a photojournalist - and not a traditional wedding photog.... so you can take my advice with a grain of salt. - but overall I think lists are a horrible, horrible thing. As a photojournalist - you can not assume anything - Lists assume quite a bit.... but in real life, things dont always go as planned. A photojournalist needs to be constantly on the look for everything. ... sorry to go on and on -- but this gets into my approach to photography, so I obviously feel very strong about it! -- just a thought for you though...... I thought you should hear the other side before you confront a volunteer - or "out of a favor" photographer with a shot list. If they are an experienced photojournalist the list idea will probably be rejected - or if they are a novice, it could just make them much more nervous about shooting your wedding! not to mention the fact that 90% of the shots on all lists should ALWAYS be shot at every wedding.... so there is no reason to add it to a list!
  9. welcome colleen and congrats!!
  10. welcome from right down the road!
