Just because a photographer has an assistant does not mean the assistant is also a photographer. I think these are all applicable to all weddings - (and many more apply), but specifically for destination weddings you probably want to add some of these: 1. - Do you carry a general liability insurance policy? 2. - Do you alter your packages for destination weddings (we add a number of features for destinations) 3. - What happens if you miss your flight? 4. - What type of equipment do you bring? - Do you ship your equipment to the location, or do you bring it with you on the plane? -- what if your equipment does not arrive, - gets lost in baggage? - what are your backup plans? 5. -- If you are not set on a wedding date, you may find some variances for DW photographer prices based on the time of the year. - For instance, we do not take any (or very, very limited) DW's in May-June, and September-October. - other photogs, simply raise their rates during these times of the year for DW's (since the cost of going on one DW- often costs you 3 or 4 weddings at home). ......... I could probably go on and on, but these are common ones I get!

    Hi

    Welcome aboard!
  5. Some suggestions............ 1. Confidence is key.... wine, music, whatever it takes - if you are confident in yourself, the pictures will just "happen". 2. may sound dumb, but go watch a few reruns of americas next top model - watch the models change poses at a shoot.... practice modeling in front of a mirror....... -- repeat the same things in front of the camera! -- If you come and only rely on instruction from the photog, the pictures are dead. -- In general, when I shoot models, I have a basic idea of the overal concept - but it is up to the model to make the shot. so to recap - have fun, be confident, and WORK IT!
  6. wow, that stinks!! - I'm glad it's all working out for you now! - I was planning on going to Riu palace sometime soon, but your experience will play a role when we book our next vacation.
  7. Sorry to hear that!! -- I'll pray for you and your family. -

I also like the artist aspect to it as well......... but by FAR my favorite scenes are: 1. the scene where he chases her down and interupts her dinner to dance....... and the ensuing kiss in the rain. - The music here is also powerful........ it's such a perfect scene. 2. the scene where she leaves after posing for him in NY -- and he runs out barefoot and catches her cab last minute ....... I pretty much love everything about that movie! -- I really like Pardiso Perduto and the charming / enchanting scenery of that house as it becomes overgrown with everything. - I'd just DIE to do a modeling shoot at a place like that! -- it was SO gorgeous! -------- turns out that place was in Florida somewhere........ I think it's torn down now!
  13. YAY to all of you! lol......... Of course, the best shots (IMO) come in candids, and the more relaxed you are the better!! - As a tip for any future brides....... when shooting with just the bride and groom...... feel free to have fun with it, do modeling poses, just share a moment taking in the fact that you are married, etc. - the best shots come from the best couples who are the most comfortable with each other and just forget they are being photographed! --- but thats getting on a different thread now! -- Is there really no one out there who didnt want to do a TTD session because of the dress, or didnt want to get their dress dirty at all? -- I completley understand before the ceremony -- but after -- who cares!! -- I say encourage this attitude -- and congrats to all of you who already have this attitude......... your pictures will (or are) better because of it!
  14. lol....... this is the reason I try to ask my brides when they are getting back from their honeymoon -- I like to try to get them done by the time they return. - It doesnt always work that way, but its nice when it does! -- The only problem.......... when you do get them, it really does take HOURS just to go thru them all. Then........ you realize your going to have to go thru them all again and decide on album photos!!
  15. So I've got an absurd amount of weddings over the last 3 years, and I've seen brides from all walks of life. The thing that still gets me after all this time....... Bride's and their dresses. -- Some brides are more laid back and know that they are only wearing the dress one day (hopefully) in their life. They walk in the grass, sand, mud even sometimes with them, and dont twice about it. -- Of course they take care to make sure it doesnt get nasty, but overall, they are not worried. While on the other hand, there are some brides who completley obsess about their dress and keeping it perfect all of the time. These brides freak out when the photographer suggests a shot that may require them moving (at all), walking thru grass, or anything other than being placed in one spot and allowing the dress to ever so carefully drop down to the ground. --- Of course, from a photographers stand point the brides that are more laid back about it usually end up getting the better photos as a result!! But I am curious........ what type of bride are/were you? If you were admitedly uptight about your dress, what drove you to be this way? -- and where is your dress now?! I think DW brides are a little better off on this because many have beach weddings, and TTD Sessions are standard for all of our DW's. ........ I was driven to post this question when I recently shot a wedding and when I wanted to take a photo of the bride outside, she refused to go in the grass, and even made us put a trash bag down on the deck before she would allow her dress to touch it. -- this of course is the extreme, but I've seen other brides with similar attitudes towards their dress. - It's dissapointing from a photographers standpoint because brides like that are usually much more tense and uptight in their photographs as well as opposed to brides who are relaxed and not worried about their dress getting dirty! What are your thoughts?
  16. Welcome aboard Ashley --- Good luck planning!

Having more than one signed contract out for a given date would be begging for trouble in my opinion. No, I guess I was not clear.... I dont sign anything. - The blank contracts are available. If a client verbally tells me that they are going to book with me, I tell them that I will hold the date for them for one week - at that point nothing is signed. I dont sign anything until I receive the deposit. - If I receive other leads for the same date during that time, I tell them that it is not booked, but is on a one week hold for reciept of a contract
