worried about low attendance for our wedding

My FFIL and his wife have gone bacj and forth. I feel hurt becauae its not a money issue, rather a divorcee issue (and its been since 1997)... I have realized id rather not have them there if theyre that immature. Just be happy with your choice ita what you always wanted and youll be with the man you love.

Well I officially hit day 30 of our 90 day contract to get our guests booked today... It's been nerve racking and I'm sure I'm driving my TA crazy (but she hasn't let on! Haha)... Our wedding is 18 months away and we have 60 days remaining on our RSVP/booking deadline. We officially have 47 people who have placed their deposits! (Of that, about 14 are kids! My two boys are thrilled about that- since it will be a real celebration for them too- and a trip they will remember for a lifetime!) I'm thrilled with the responses so far- and honestly, if everyone else says no- we still have some of our favorite people coming! (We invited 140... And so far only 4 have RSVP no... But we were aiming for 70-80 to actually attend).

I'm breathing a big sigh of relief.

Wooo! 47 guests already = that's amazing!! Good for you :)! You are going to have an amazing wedding

We never had a deposit deadline - not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, as we keep getting people trickle in. I think it's been about 3 months now and we're at 40 people - 35 adults and 5 babies/toddlers. I think we would have had more people if we had put our wedding later, but I wanted to get married as quickly as possible haha - 9 months from being engaged

I SO wish I had gone with your TA now. Ours is so so bad. I have guests right now wanting to book, and I"m chasing down my TA and her replacement TA and HER replacement TA to take the deposit information because everyone is on vacation :(. Our 7 night flight is just about booked up as well

Did you do a group booking? or is your TA just booking everyone for you?

We have a group booking and that is where the deposit deadline comes in - Air Canada held 30 seats/15 rooms for us and we got 90 days to fill them (or get more) and then the seats go back to the general population.   Ours just passed.   Our final payment is due mid October for travel in January.

Hope you sort it out, the TA makes the difference in this case forsure. Hope it goes better!!!

Thanks! We do have a group booking through our TA with Air Canada Vacations. They wouldn't give us the 90 day hold without immediate deposits though because the hotel was already half booked, and it was only 6 months from the wedding. So we put down deposits for 20 people/10 rooms around the end of April/early May, and we've added them as we've needed. Our TA has been able to get all the people that booked later the same as our initial rate

We got engaged end of March, and I wanted to get married asap, which has kind of worked against us. I think if we had waited til Maybe April of 2015, we would have had some more people come, but we wanted to get married quickly for a bunch of different reasons. I'm okay though with the amount we have coming with us. We'd be happy if we had maybe a few more, but we were estimating around 50 so we're not too far off.

50 is awesome!!  We have 42 at present but can't see it being anymore. We have a couple who are going to try, but who knows :)  We put the invites out in May and will marry in January.   I think time frame for us was good, or just a bit too long (LOL) but I don't know if I could have held my excitement for any longer.

We had to put our deposits down right away to hold those rooms/seats, but that gave our guests the 90 days.  So I paid for my family of 4.

We had alot more singles book then I imagined, so our 30/15 ratio was off, but Air Canada hasn't said anything.

I am sure things change with less time and less availablity, but it's awesome your friends/family can still get the same pricing, etc.

We have had some hick ups with Air Canada changing their schedule but I think we are 99.9% fixed. We have verbal confirmation, but awaiting written confirmation.

  • 1 month later...

We thought we were going to have 20-30 people max, and now with less than 40 days to go, people are still booking and we are at 92 people... I don't want this to get any bigger at this point

wow some of you girls are having a lot of people. I think I would freak out having that many..hahaha

I had 32 people who had put down their deposits and in the last two days I had 2 people back out and said they won't be able to go. so now down to 30 and I can imagine before the final amount is due, there will be some more. Oh well less people the less money spent. I am a little disappointed though because out of my guests on my side I only have one friend going and she is maid of honour everyone else on my side are mostly family. I had invited a few friends and either people couldn't afford to go or had other reasons. I just can't help but feel disappointed in some people.

Our total guest list is 39, as of now we have 3 people who put deposits now, several who have indicated yes - but in our eyes you're not a yes until you have put money down....because anyone can say yes.

We sent our invites out at the beginning of June. We are getting married in April.

Out TA has worked magic keeping seats reserved.

We sent out 2 rounds of invitations, first with an RSVP for end of September, next for December.

There is still time to get more yes replies, but I'm worried. So far for sure going it's my brother and his wife and my MIL

My family and many of my friends seem to be pretty excited and already pestering us to see when they can put down deposits etc.. but my FI's family and friends seem a lot less enthused. I will feel really bad for him if they dont come through for him. He comes from a smaller family anyway, so he knew his "side" would be on the light side.. but I just don't want him to sad inside that we chose to do a DW. (It's my second wedding, his first... so it's a big deal for him- and I know he would be heartbroken) I think he's worried about the guys he is asking to be groomsmen- and that they may say no because they dont want to spend the money to attend.

:(

The same happened to us. My friends and family were on board right away as well as our common friends. My fiance's friends were a different story and they're either not coming or not staying at our hotel :(. I felt really bad for him but at the same time I guess it will give my fiancé a good chance to be with his mom (whom he hasn't seen in 3 or 4 years and older sister) they're both staying at our hotel .

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
