Who is walking you down the aisle? Is it ok to choose no one?

Recommended Posts

Hi Wagnergirls. I know what a dilemma this can be for some of us. Like you, I don't have the closest relationship with my Dad but we still get along and care about each other and all that but it's distant. I am way closer to my Mom. Honestly, if anyone was going to have the honour of walking me down the aisle, it should be her. However, I would never want to offend my Dad but just having Mom do it; I think he'd be quite hurt. I don't really like the idea of being "given away" anyway so I'd much prefer to just walk by myself. However, my Mom really wants to walk with me down the aisle. Therefore, so that my Dad nor my Mom are offended (it's partly their day too, after all), I'm letting them both walk me down the aisle. But if you can get away with just walking by yourself, I'd say go for it!

My grandfather is walking me down the aisle.

He's my hero and has been a constant father figure in my life where my real Dad has often fallen short. He also had an awful stroke 5 years ago and recovered against all odds. Although he's half paralyzed, he can still walk short distances with a brace and someone for him to lean on (ie. me).

If it weren't for my grandpa I'd be walking solo :)

I decided to walk myself down the isle. It felt better that way. I never brought up the subject, neither did he, before the wedding. We had also not been the closest, so I think he just understood. I never felt that he took it personally or anything.

This is your day, do what feels right and makes you happy!

My daddy passed away 2 years ago this summer and I will most likely walk myself down the aisle. I do have an older brother whom I'm guessing would like to take our dad's "place" in that role of "giving me away", so I may do that too. I don't feel strongly about either way really.

The beauty of a DW is that YOU get to decide if you want to be solo down that aisle or not. I say go with your gut:) Best of luck!

Thank you everyone for replying! I definitely feel more comfortable now with my decision to walk myself down the aisle! Like mlabbe, I think he will just sort of "understand," without any discussion about it before the wedding. He asked me what he should wear to the wedding, and I told him whatever makes him comfortable since it will be a hot, beach wedding. I also really liked the idea that some of you brought up where the groom meets the bride half way. that sounds so romantic and symbolic! I have never seen it done in real life, but I have talked to my fiance about it and this is what we are going to do! I also like the idea of "all eyes on me." :) because i am the type of person who is rarely the center of attention, it will feel nice on my wedding day. Thank you everyone for all of your help!!

Hi Wagnergirls....I'd say go with what will make you the most comfortable on your big day. There is a lot of pressure on us brides to do what we think people want or what they expect, but it is your day, so do it the way you want.

Best of luck!

My six year old daughter is walking me down the aisle. My dad is not coming to my wedding since he doesn't like to fly (Personally I say suck it up and drink a few if ya have to). But my daughter is my whole world and I can't think of anyone better to have the honor.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
