Are you changing your name?

Recommended Posts

í´m definitely keeping my name!

1, i really like my name,

2, initially my daughter had my surname, and it represents to me the five hard years i spent bringing her up by myself...

3, now our kids have both, mine first then his.....

4, spanish women don´t take their husbands name.

tbh, if he was prepared to take mine, then i would take his and we could all have both, but he´s not, so i´m not!

(plus it would just cost too much to change passports, nie´s, residencia´s, banks in 2 countries etc!)

I will be changing my last name.  I have really oldfashioned values and think that it is romantic and I know it is something my FI really wants... even though my new name will be kind of cartoony!!

I'm kinda in the same situation.  Just recently my dad has decided to no longer be a part of my life.  I love my last name and everyone knows I am Italian because of it but since he has chosen to walk out of my life I have decided I can part with it.  My mother and father are no longer married and she changed her last name to her mother's maiden name.  So I really don't mind taking on a new one.  It is unique but most will have a hard time pronouncing it.  It's just gonna be difficult changing the signature.

(FI's last name is so much better than mine too)

I'm changing my name. I don't have a problem changing it, but it seems to be such a hassle with all of the stuff that I have to remember to put my new last name on. There's the everyday stuff like driver's license, SS card, passport. But those are just the basics. If you have a professional license, you have to change your name on that, if you are a naturalized citizen, you have to change your name on that. If you are a part of any professional associations, you have to change your name with them. The list just seems to go on and on.  But alas, it is something that is important to him that I take his name and I guess I want to have his name too. So this is all part of the have and to hold I guess.  I did ask him if he would change his name to mine so I wouldn't have to go through the hassle! (He laughed of course)!

I'm not changing my name, as people before me have said - I have no issues with people calling me Mrs. ___ in social settings, but professionally I have contacts and things published in my name, and I don't want to start all over again there.  If we ever had kids they would definiately take his name, and potentially I would hyphenate or change it then.  My FH has an awesome last name though.

I had a friend who's FH told her - he wouldn't marry her if she didn't take his name because it meant that much to him.  I would have been quite upset if someone had given me that ultimatum.

I can't wait to change my name. my current last name is IMPOSSIBLE to spell over the phone without using "as in Frank." F's and S's are annoying when you have multiples of them!!

I'm glad this thread is here.  I've thought about this a lot.

I love my name, and I've worked hard for my reputation, which is inherently tied to my name.   However, I really want my family -- kids, husband -- to all share the same name, so I have decided to change it.  I'd love to change my maiden name to my middle name, but it rhymes with my FIs last name and sounds ridiculous!

In the end, I will be proud to share his name, but I will be sad to lose mine.

Tough question for me also

This is my second marriage and my children are from my first marriage, they are twin boys (not girls, therefore of course, their name will never change)

I am sad to not have the same last name as my children but proud to carry my FI' name.

Still not sure, I may drop my maiden name and middle name and have my two last names.........they are very simple last names......example Smith.

That way I am still attached to my children.

Tough call.......

Not even sure if you can do that.........can you?

Example..........Dana Smith Jones.....??
