ROR Photographer's Policy Change

Recommended Posts

This is madness! These prices are rediciulous... wanted to hire Micheal for my wedding, and I allready thought he was charging high prices, but I anted my pictures on a cd, and to charge $15 for each picture that simply is unacceptable.. They leave you no choice, because how are we going to get pictures in an other way? I hav som guests but I want them to enjoy the day, not take pictures of us all the time ...thatswck.gif

this dude has lost his mind. You come out way better bringing your own photog, whether it's someone from home or a local jamaican photog. After editing and everything, I got 463 pics on a high res CD that I can print myself, make photobooks, announcements, etc from Robin. If I had gotten the same # from Michael I would have spent over $7000!!! I didn't spend anything close to that.

There are so many ROR brides on here. those of you that have wedding dates really close together should look into hiring 1 photog and splitting the travel costs. You could probable save a pretty penny

Hi all, not to panic just yet! I used Michael and was very happy with him. If you scroll down the price list and see "Section C", you can get a large amount of photos on CD for much less $. We purchased the Classic package where you get your 10 prints and then we got 100 pictures on CD. They are extremely high resolution and good quality. I then got all the pics printed at Costco when I returned and it turned out to be pretty cost effective. Hope that helps!

Oh, and I paid by traveller's cheque anyway, because the photoshop always did charge a 5% surcharge when you paid with a credit card so I elected to pay with traveller's cheques...

like jmhein says, it's really not so bad, you only pay the 15$ per print if you don't get a package. i.e. you buy the initial package at 160$/180$ (or free with royal/caprice) which gets you 6/10 print (or 12 with royal and 24 with caprice) and then if you want a few more you pay 15$ each. Seems reasonable to me seeing as so far he's only made 160/180$ off you.

But there are tons of packages offered. To me 200 photos on CD for 750$ (plus initial package price of 160/180 or free) seems pretty reasonable and WAY cheaper than flying in your own photographer!

Also, somebody asked what was included with the free package, well according to the info here if you have the Royal or Caprice package with free photography included, you get 12 (royal) or 24 prints (caprice). If you meant the free wedding package (not the free photography that comes with royal & caprice) there is no photography included (which seems reasonable, you are getting your wedding package free!)

I'm not even getting married at this resort, so sorry for jumping in, I was just surprised so many people were complaining about cost. Seems equivalent with other resorts. Mostly I was just impressed with the detailed price list provided.

If you hire a local person you have to buy them a day pass. If you bring your own and they are staying at the RIU there is no fee. Michael has his own policy on this, but its not the RIU's policy.

Or you can pay the "breach of contract fee" - which is absurd, but oh well. I'm hiring Brian Nejedly out of Jamaica and paying for the day pass. If Michael tries to step in, then I will give him the money, just to get him off my back. I have heard bad and good about him so I would rather not take the chance.

Slightly off topic but still slightly there..............I just spoke to Michael about their policy as an outside photographer. He didnt like having the convo (understandably) but gave me the information nevertheless. I guess as he has exclusive rights he wont allow other photographers taking his business away. I think for those brides who want something different as long as it doesnt happen too much its ok. There is a $200 fee payable to the hotel (which is then paid to him) as well as the cost for a day pass for the photographer.

The credit card decision could not have been easy for him. I normally take deposits and payment by moneygram transfer which can be paid with your credit card. It just requires that you contact your credit card provider and inform them that you want to do the moneygram transfer. Try contacting him and see if he would accept payment this way. He wont have the credit card fraud risk just a little hassle to collect the money. It would be good business sense to accept as most people will want to pay by credit card.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
