Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I remember someone posting their pictures on here a little while ago...I loved her pictures of the akumal hammock location decorations.  If anyone remembers who it was or where I can find the pics that would be a great help.  I need to find out how much and where to get the fabric.  Thanks all!!

It started around 9pm with games, mechanical bull etc...the show started about 10pm. You should have plenty of time for an a la carte if you get an earlier reservation. I would suggest Don Pablo at Tulum. For the food and the proximity to the Fiesta...it's an easy walk through the lobby and straight down to the Hacienda.

Do you remember what time the fiesta started? I wondering if we can fit in an a la carte dinner that night

Morning ladies!

I'm in the very, very early stages of planning and have read almost this entire thread. Thank you to everyone for posting all of this information and the gorgeous pictures! 1-pray.gif

I've been to the Gran Bahia Ambar in the Dominican Republic, so I'm kind of accustomed to the Bahia way (and their amazing resorts) but still have some questions after reading all of these posts.

  • Does the disco still open around midnight? Is there other live entertainment until it opens?
  • If we do a symbolic ceremony (and get married in the US prior to our trip), do we have to use the Minister or can someone from our group perform the ceremony for us? Are we able to write our own ceremony script if we use the minister?
  • Did anyone arrange a private bus to the resort for their guests?
  • Has anyone had the resort photographer do a TTD session for them?
  • Does the resort provide colored chair sashes for the ceremony and poolside cocktail reception?
  • What kind of fabric has been used to the decorate the Akumal Hammock location? I know I read somewhere to use 15 yards. Did anyone decorate the Tulum Gazebo location with fabric?
  • For those who have brought table runners for the poolside cocktail reception, how long was your fabric and what type of fabric did you use?
  • For the japanese lanterns for the poolside cocktail reception, has anyone put LED lights in them?

Thank you so much in advance!

And if anyone could email me the information they've received from the resort (pricing, cake and flower catalogs, menus, etc.) that would be so appreciated! deniden at aol dot com

Thanks again!

Denielle

Hi Denielle!

When will your wedding be and have you decided which area you will get married?  Those are very good questions, I would also like to know some of that information.  I can't believe you read almost the whole forum.  I read about half of it and gave up.  But I wish I took better notes or copied the pics, because now I can't find some of the information.

I have the flower catalog and prices which I can send you.  I think I have menus too.  Have you contacted the wedding coordinator yet?

If you would like to see some pics, give me your email address and I can send you some. Been there 8 times and am heading back in 19 more sleeps!

Cheers,

Christi-

Thank you so much for sending me that information!

We are undecided on location, date, etc. I will be a 2012 Bride, but that's as far as we've gotten, lol. I'm actually still up in the air about getting married in Mexico or the Dominican Republic. We went to the Gran Bahia Ambar in Punta Cana and loved it... and then I saw this thread about the Gran Bahia in Mexico and just started reading and reading and getting more interested in this resort. :)

I just wanted to share that I made a wedding website using mywedding.com and it was free.  It took me a while to figure out how to use it, but I think it looks pretty good so far.  I still need to add the pages for "registry", "our story", "guestbook", and "blog". I'll probably also add a packing list or important travel information.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on my website.  I haven't even been to this resort before, so there could be details I'm leaving out or getting incorrect.

Just a comment - My fiance is from Mexico City and apparently Mexican weddings are crazy parties!! So I don't want to disappoint my guests.  We are throwing a party!

oooh yay!! im sure your weather will be perfect! Were getting married at the Gran Bahia Principe Akumal!! i wanna get married at the hammocks, i think its gorgeous. i'm not sure who my coordinator is yet, my travel agent is also a destination wedding planner so i paid her planning fee so that she can take care of all my details like paperwork, legal documentation, spa bookings for mine and my girls hair and the reception etc etc. so she emails directly to the resort for me :) way less stressful lol. I haven't quite decided on reception yet. probably just gonna have dinner thats included in the package becuz were having a 160 person reception back home the week after which is costing us a lot ha ha. But it def. is a legal ceremony! I'm also bringing down my own photographer. she is amaaazzing, she did our engagement photos, were just paying for her trip to mexico and she is doing 400 photos for us! she's there as a guest so were just not gonna tell the resort she is a photographer, just a friend taking pictures! lol Hows your planning going? what do you have set up/booked already???

What resort are you getting married at? Who is your wedding coordinator?  What kind of ceremony/reception are you planning? Maybe we can share ideas?!?

Sunnyee: I would love to see wedding/reception/ceremony pictures...

And anyone else, if you have any to share- that would be awesome...especially those at Akumal weddings!

Here's the post: it looks totally gorgeous! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/786/gran-bahia-principe-akumal-tulum-coba-post-here/3710#post_1537239

I remember her saying she bought 10-12 yards but since it didn't touch the ground, she thought she should recommend buying 15 yards and then they can cut it if it's too long.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
