  1. it's just the gifts. you could also "create your own" receipts for the decor, in case you're worried. but tell them it's wedding decorations, and personal belongings, and you're taking it back home with you. you shouldn't have an issue.
  2. I'd tend to think bringing oregano IN wouldn't be the issue...getting it home might be hahahaha
  3. love this idea as a favor!!!! I don't have any experience with DR specifically, but I've brought spices home from a number of international locations, and there wasn't a problem with it. I think if they are labeled, and have the ingredients listed (and don't look like white powder...), it should be fine.
  4. @@kmk2016 - clearly I need to get a life.. Visiting BDW reminds me how much FUN my own wedding was - even with the stress of planning, the non-responsive wedding coordinators, the hunt for info. It all ended up being amazing. So I come back to relive that through all of the new BDW brides!
  5. I have orange paper lanterns, and pintuck table runners from my wedding. Let me know if you're interested!
  6. comment..comment...comment! if you enjoy a photo, comment. if you like a planning thread, comment. you'll get there! and then you'll be one of us old married ladies who hangs around for the fun of it
  7. I could not even fathom wearing spanx under my dress! it was warm enough without added compression. I did wear a long line bra to give my corset-back dress a little more help, and then I wore a pair of bike shorts underneath to avoid thigh-rub (hey..ya gotta do what ya gotta do!). I will say it was AMAZING what that corset back did for my figure. No way would a zipper or button-back dress have looked like that on me.
  8. @@girlinthecity97 - yup, the beach BBQ is wildly popular, and comes with a whole table of dessert choices. Browse around the EDR thread - I know a few brides posted pics of their BBQ buffet in the last couple of months, and it looked AMAZING. and so exciting that you'll have more guests!
  9. congratulations & welcome to BDW!!!
  10. one tip: if you have a dinner or buffet, it will also come with a dessert. there may not be a reason to order a big cake, and perhaps just a small cake for cutting will work. we did cupcakes, and most of them were wasted. the dessert that came with dinner (tres leches cake) was MUCH better than the cupcakes. other brides who've done the BBQ buffet said it comes with so many desserts, the cake isn't needed either. just a thought!
  11. you shouldn't have to stress about cutting or fading the songs in or out - they'll have someone working the sound system who will do that for you. if you want the entire song to play, then slow the walks. if you're ok with it fading out, then they can handle that too! are you bringing your own iPod for the ceremony music?
  12. awesome - that's where my husband is from. PS - if orange happens to be one of your color, I have paper lanterns and the table runners I can make a deal on!
  13. awww @mrandmrsbonnitto2016 - thank you on both counts! your wedding will be amazing too! where in NYC are you?
  14. I do! (hehe I still love saying that. I know, I'm a dork). we kept it fairly simple both for cost reasons, and because the setting was gorgeous. we didn't feel the need to go over the top with decorations. let's see if this works: our set up for dinner/reception - the paper lanterns, and our table runners our centerpieces - I brought the shells, votives, table runners and table numbers. rented the vases from the resort ceremony set up - paper lanterns as aisle markers, the parasols at the back oh, and our favors - definitely one of my favorite things. we had windchimes made for our parents with the sandollar, and the guests got the ornaments below.
  15. flowers are gorgeous too! I can't believe it's only 3 weeks away. I am so excited for you!!!
  16. I have two sites I used for decorations & favors: Luna Bazaar: www.lunabazaar.com we got our paper lanterns from Luna Bazaar eFavor Mart: www.efavormart.com we got linens and our favors from eFavor Mart happy planning!
  17. hopefully your TA can find a deal! We do have the advantage of flying on charter flights from DFW to Cancun. FunJet & Sun Country are two of the biggest. I think they have them out of the Houston area too. The trick is to figure out which days they are flying though - they don't fly the charters 7 days/week. Your TA would be able to access those flights. One coming advantage for Hobby is that Southwest should begin flying to Cancun later this year direct from Hobby. I will say that even our flights to Mexico seemed expensive - but less expensive than DR..
  18. Hi Christien, We did price them from DFW both for our wedding back in 2012, and for our upcoming trip in June 2014. We found that Cancun flights were less expensive than DR for us from DFW. Plus DR is a connecting flight vs. going direct to Cancun. If your friends & family are flying out of Houston though, there may be better pricing and direct flights to DR (lucky Houstonians!). Try to do some rough pricing using Expedia or Orbitz. If your wedding dates aren't available for flights yet, price it using 2014 dates as an estimate. Good luck!
  19. We've noticed that the plan ahead WC have much higher charges than what the onsite WC's will charge. For small things. it's typically no more than $5 pp, or $250 total. The higher charges rack up when you have things to hang from the ceiling or gazebo, or elaborate set ups. I would wait and discuss your set up when you have your meeting with the onsite WC. Take some cash, but a limited amount (maybe $200 or $250) and use that as your negotiating point.
  20. it really is gorgeous!! I'm so happy you were able to work out the budget.
  21. El Dorado Royal/El Dorado Casitas/Generations Riviera Maya have a chapel onsite. it's super cute! and amazing resorts. there's a great shot on the scroller on this page, and also one on the Official EDR/EDCR Thread - the link is in my signature.
