  1. Congratulations!!!! And thank you for getting online the day after the wedding to reassure us all on how great everything will turn out. I will look forward to seeing your pictures and reading your review - it is sad, but I wait for these like a kid at Christmas :-) And thanks for answering my questions. Everytime I see a new idea from other brides on this site I wonder if they would apply to us. For instance, the last thing I saw was luminary table numbers...but I wonder if they would blow over with the wind of the beach.
  2. I completely agree with islandbride8 - if you don't want alcohol, then there should not be alcohol. I think it would be good to indicate this on the invitation, just so people are not surprised when they get there. Guests would have no right to be disappointed, but it is best to let them know ahead of time that this will be a dry event.
  3. You will find that most brides on this forum are getting married on or near the beach and way less than half (from all the pictures I have seen) chose beachy/flowy dresses. The advice most often given on this forum is that this is your day you should do whatever will make you happy. If that is your dream dress, then stick with it! You want to look at those wedding pictures with no regrets... (My heavy mermaid dress will be a nightmare on the beach where I am having my reception, but I chose it anyway because that is the style I looked best in so I knew that is what would make me feel beautiful on my wedding day.)
  4. I definitely like the idea of semi-formal white attire, but I think I would go with a sand ceremony over a candle ceremony. Not sure how old your som is, but sand just seems safer. Also, if you buy one of the sand ceremoeny kits with a place for a photo in it, you can put a picture of the new family and place the frame somewhere prominent as a reminder. (I am partial to the keepsake that a sand ceremony offers!) I think if you are having the event at a state park/beach, then you don't really need to decorate as a pretty outdoor setting will be all you need. Maybe just decorate the table around which the ceremony will take place. And I think you should do some sort of invite that you let your son help you design. For our AHR, we are just planning on doing a custom postcard with a description of the event and a request to RSVP via email. So even though there is no need for a formal invitation, I think it would be nice to send out something as it gives you yet another keepsake for the event. Best of luck with your planning.
  5. We are not inviting everyone to Mexico that we are inviting to the party back at home. We are using my fiance's huge family as the reason why we can't invite everyone to the DW. One thing we did was to make sure circles of friends were either all invited or all not invited to the DW. We will send save the dates and invitations to the people selected for the DW. Then we will send out a separate postcard invitation for our at home party (note the party, not reception so we don't feel the need for official invites) to everyone - those that did and didn't get the DW invitation.
  6. You did a great job! It will be a lot of fun to go and pick out the background paper....so many options. I would personally just put "Amy & Eddy" at the top and your wedding date at the bottom. If it were me, I wouldn't assume that each of your guests are going to take long enough to write out words of wisdom. Some of them might just want to write "Congratulations" or draw a funny picture or something like that so it might be best to leave it a little more generic.
  7. A couple of questions for all of the married ladies or birdes-to-be that had site visits: 1. Are fans placed in the ceremony chairs at the gazebo a waste of time/effort due to the wind? I see them in all of the planning threads and they are pretty, but if the gazebo is so windy then they wouldn't be of any use. 2. Is there any need for bug repellant in the OOT bags? Another item I see on this forum, that doesn't seem to be needed for our resort. I have made a file of a lot of ideas based on what I have seen on this forum, and I am trying to narrow down what does not apply to us. Are there any other common forum ideas that you ladies can think of that don't apply to Dreams Cancun brides?
  8. I would go with one of your larger gift ideas. To me, a whole bunch of small things doesn't always add up to the same as a big thing (even when the total price is equivalent). Though I did check out the link for the personalized beach bags and those are really cute. I would even say that you don't need to get the exact same big gift for the two girls if they have different interests as long as the money spent is equivalent. So if one is a reader get the Kindle and if the other likes to work out then the ear buds and gift card. Your girls will love whatever you get them, but it is great you care enough to try and get them the perfect gift!
  9. Debbie and Rachel - Both of you are so close!!! Pre-Congratulations! We all can't wait to hear every little detail and see tons of pictures!
  10. Mermaid dress here too. Since we will be near our hotel rooms at our resorts, my plan will be to take my mother/sister/then husband with me back to the room and take the dress off, pee, and then put it back on. Luckily my dress has a zipper (and a few hooks for the built in corset) so it will be faster. I will hydrate well before heading to teh salon for hair and makeup and then pretty much stop drinking fluids until the reception. At that point if I have to go take the dress off once it won't be the end of the world, but if you drink all day then you will have to go through the effort multiple times. (And don't forget if you are drinking a lot of alcohol that once you break the seal....)
  11. Uggg - it deleted what I typed when I hit Submit. Rachel - I have faith that the weather will be better than forecasted. But I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Saturday is just 2 days away - yeah!

  13. Just an FYI, some brides post reviews in this thread, but others post under the resort. To get there you go to the "Resorts & Villas" tab at the top of the page (next to "Home" and "Forums"). From there you choose the "Riviera Maya & Cancun" link under Mexico. On the next page select the "Cancun" link, then on the following page select "Read Reviews" for Dreams Cancun (under the star rating).
  14. Your review is fantastic! So detailed. A few comments and questions if you don't mind: 1. Thanks for the info about the lights under the tables. I was thinking of doing it but good to know it isn't needed and that you didn't really like the look. That money can now go toward a bigger tip (as I was only thinking $100). 2. Thank you for the price breakdown! 3. So you got an additional 2 hours of reception for $920 for 46 people? Did that include the DJ for an extra 2 hours? Thank you so much for saying this is the best AI you have been to - makes me feel great about my choice!
  15. Sorry Sheena, I can't see it either. I don't know what else to use other than the paperclip.
  16. 1. My fiance and I do not want kids (though I have told him I am only 95% sure because if the baby crazy switch gets flipped there won't be anything I can do about it). We even call our dog our "son". 2. My fiance and I met online and I am still a bit embarrassed to scream it from the rooftops while he has no problem with it. However, we did write in to eharmony and we got free visors from them that we will take a few pictures in either at the rehearsal or the TTD. 3. I called my Mom to tell her that I was engaged and then she told my Dad when he came home. The first words out of his mouth were "Pack your bags!" I had not mentioned a DW to them (I wasn't going to jinx getting a ring!), but my Dad knows his little girl. 4. It seems that each time I go on a cruise, someone close to me dies. The first cruise it was my grandmother and the second was my uncle. I would get back to the airport and turn on my cell and I would have a voicemail with the bad news.... 5. My fiance and I went to rival universities - we have the house divided flag and all. I have to fake rooting for his team when they are playing anyone but my team but deep down I want them to lose so badly. I was trying to force myself to have my garter be for his team, but I just couldn't do it. So I found a lady online that would put both schools on a garter...now I won't have to gag as I put my garter on for my wedding day!
  17. I think this is for everyone. the same deal is up in Raleigh, NC and it looks like over 300,000 people have bought the deal!
