  1. I was in Playa del Carmen when this happened. I did not hear anything about it until yesterday when it hit the news. My comments are the same as the poster above. You must be respectful of the fact that you are not in your own country. Cultures are different. Authorities behave differently. If you do not understand what this means to a travellor, stay home. I've vacationed in Mexico for the last three years. I've been "hit on" while we've been off the resort but my fiancee and I have talked about it. If it happens, I walk away and so does he. I think it is absolutely horrendous that this happened. However, who in the name of god in their right mind would argue with authorities (police) in Mexico and think they are going to win said argument. Reckless is what he was and she paid the price. But at least he got to assert his position. Right and wrong does not have the same meaning in every culture. Here is my advice to anyone planning to get married in any country, not just Mexico: if you plan to get drunk, fight with a local or another tourist no matter the situation, then argue with authorities, stay the hell home because you will surely find yourself in a bad situation. Just my opinion for whatever it's worth.
  2. Beachy, I've only ordered from Monica Bridal but the way it works there is that you send them pictures with detailed descriptions via email. When you are in the Monica Bridal Store online under DHGATE, click on contact seller on the left hand side. This will take you into the email option. Copy the photos of the dresses and upload them one at a time. I think you can attach four photos to each email. G
  3. Hi there, I had originally planned to have my wedding at the Real Resorts in Playa del Carmen. Spent a ten days there over Christmas this year but have decided that after staying in the Riviera/Play del Carmen three years in a row, it was time for a change. We've decided to move our wedding to IMP. I just sent a date request this morning for November 22, 2011. Hopefully it will be available. Ginger
  4. Bonnie is absolutely correct. I spent weeks talking with the Monica Bridal rep and before that months deciding on a dress and asking questions. This last dress they made for me was the first dress I sent to her way back in early fall. Then I changed my mind. However, I did ask her lots of questions to ensure I got all the information to her. My photos looked similar to yours shootystar with writing all over it. Here is where I think your two problems are right now: As Bonnie and another poster said, you have sent the specific instructions after they have made the dress. The second issue I believe played a major factor and maybe the most important one, is that you have already tried on the original. You are wearing it in the photos correct? From my limited dealings with them, they do not want to make a dress when you've had the original in your hands and on your body. They feel they will disappoint. Then, of course, your timelines and their holiday all played into the situation as well. If you can get a refund get it. If you can't, have them ship the dress to you and see what you can have done with it at home, like Bonnie said. I would be sending those photos to other vendors to see what the response is and how quickly they can make it. Or go buy one. That's really all you can do. In the end, you are not out a lot of money. I understand that your are frantic because you do not have a dress. Go out looking now. I bought a sample for a great price. I had that going into this entire Knock off dress process. It was like insurance or something. I also started a year in advance. I'm sure it will work out. Just take a deep breath and map out a course of action.
  5. Very good detailing shootystar. I gave even more detail when I had Monica Bridal make my pink dress. I think that is the key to getting what you want. I gave them measurements of everything ie How long I wanted the train, down to the inch, the exact thickness of the beading and the embroidery. The rep was very appreciative of all the input. Even the measurement guide at the bottom of their order page, I had the professional take every one of those measurements. I think it makes their job a lot easier. I'm sure they will get closer to the original this time. Good luck.
  6. Thanks Lisa. Both dresses Monica Bridal made for me were absolutely perfect. With the exception of sizing of the first dress, which was my own fault. The difference between the two dresses was doing my own measurements vs having a pro do them...I remember your dress looked very well constructed and very close to the inspiration dress but that it was too long right? For 140-160 dollars, not a bad deal considering what we would pay in a bridal shop. I think we def come out on top with knock off. I say even with alterations, you'll get a great deal on your dress. Good luck with alterations. Let's see it again if you decide to go that route.
  7. Thanks for the info...I may do that but it's not like I have to sell it to get the money or anything. It was more out of feeling bad the dress wasn't getting to be warn. Fiancee told me today to keep it. He says shorten the train by taking the bottom layer off or maybe bottom two, add a rhinstone belt and wear it as a reception dress...then use it the next day in a TTD session. I may do just that. I have lots of time to decide as our wedding is in November. I think I may be a little attached to it how weird is that?
  8. Lisadias Did you decide what you were going to do with your dress that was too long? Did you sell it or did you decide to alter? Just inquiring as I have an extra dress (the ruffled dress) and wanted to know the success rate of selling a knockoff. G
  9. ShootyStar can you post up a pic of the inspiration dress? I'm so suprised that they say they can't fix what you are asking them to do. They have always been so accommodating with me. The skirt on the dress is absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure there is a way they can save this.
  10. Thanks everyone. I ordered my custom veil last night from Monica Bridal of course. I asked that they add some applique to the veil similar to the embroidery on my dress. It will be shipped on the 20th.
  11. OOOOOOh I love #1. It's fun and flirty and still says I just got married
  12. I tried this last month in Mexico and um...well...worked okay I suppose but OMG did the tape hurt the girls coming off as I had gotten a bit of sun earlier that day...OUCH.
  13. I walked into a store in my town three weeks before I left for Mexico that had a sale on remaining summer stock, I got five pieces for are you ready for this...TEN DOLLARS. They fit great and had quite a variety of colors. I had looked into VS as well but my extra curves dictate that I try on
  14. Monica Bridal is amazing with the details. Considering I sketched it out using "picture it" free hand, I cannot believe the fantastic job they did with the embroidery and beadings. Honestly the embellishment at the waist looks much better in person. As far as the fit goes, I cannot stress enough have someone do it for you. I paid a professional tailor this time to measure me and that was the result. Perfect fit. Now considering I am trying this on just after dinner, four bottles of water and a glass of wine later, and PMS, I'd say I'm golden.
  15. I didn't ask for it but I def got some extra boning in the top of the dress...as you can see for yourself in the picture, looks like it has built-in boobs I'll take all the help I can get. It's just a smidge loose right at the bust line but simple little alter. I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Can't wait to get a veil...I also may have my friend add some tulle to the back under the train just to give it some structure...
  16. Okay here are my pics...It's hard to take them by yourself. It's hard to get a sense of the color because of the flash on satin but I love it. I'm having a veil made in blush pink with some little crystals on it or something like that. The front view looks like I'm 4 feet tall because I'm on bare feet and I was sinking into the cushions.
  17. Got it and I'm very very happy with it. Exactly what I asked for. With the exception of taking in a tiny little bit in the boobage area it fits to perfection. I just returned from Mexico earlier this week and had to go back to work Thursday so I just found my camera this afternoon I'll be posting up pics a little later as soon as I can take them.
  18. After looking at the tracking last night and then reading about the poster that received the call from customs, I went into panic mode thinking they were going to send it on back to China or something because it was undervalued. Considering I've seen the pictures of the dress and how perfect it is, I really wanted to make sure that wasn't going to happen. I was more concerned about the wording of the tracking. Monica Bridal used a different shipping company this time so none of this looked at all familiar. I hope the dress takes a good two weeks to come. After my ten day vacation at the Royal in Playa del Carmen and all the extra good eating I did, I need the time to exercise
  19. 30 Dec 2010 15:00:34 Vancouver Shipment In Transit. 30 Dec 2010 14:40:13 Vancouver Shipment Received At Transit Point. 30 Dec 2010 17:22:00 Canada Others Shipment Held In Warehouse. Follow Up Actions Underway. 30 Dec 2010 15:45:00 Canada Others Onforwarded For Delive Can someone help me understand this shipping information. It looks like the shipment is being held in the warehouse as looking at the time codes "follow up actions are underway". Does this mean they are holding my dress? At first I thought Onforward for delivery meant it was being delivered to me but if you look at the times, they aren't in order. 17:22 is the last entry. Or am I wrong here? I'm worried I'm not going to get my dress.
  20. I'm sending mine in January. We're getting married in November.
