What to do- friend can't afford to come
josietoms replied to ktchi's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
you need to speak to your friend as she is obviously a close friend as you are considering paying for her - however - by speaking to her you may realise there are more than the financial reasons why she has now said she is not coming because surely she would have told you quite a while ago she wouldnt be able to afford it. ie; she is saving for something else ; doesnt want to be away from her family etc. If in your heart you really want her there - offer to pay for her and see her reaction - noone else has to know. But dont offer to pay for her and then forever hold it against her ie; let in niggle away in the back of your mind. -
Uninvited/Unwanted guests

thumbs up to option 2 - going with the mutual friends. Its difficult to say they simply cant come to LV as this a holiday destination after all but i was thinking along the same lines as lalanyc - try to organise some informal get togethers in the days before - then surely they wont get crash. I cant believe how rude some people are!!! -

We are booked - we booked through Thomson - they are 18 of us going inc bride and groom. Thats about as much planning as I have done - lol x

we dont have a first dance agreed on yet either as we dont have 'our song' - maybe this is all a myth and not many people have a special song. We are not doing a mother / son dance or father / daughter dance - i dont really think this tradition crossed the pond as i havent seen this at any weddings i have been to - Michelle and Nicy will prob correct me here? LOL. Everytime i mention a song he just looks at me blankly and says -'im not sure' - think this will be a last min decision on our part - FI really isnt fussed on this aspect at all.

Beach/Reception Shoes
josietoms replied to MDLady's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
As hat0112 says you will def need to get your dress hemmed to the height of your heels if you are wearing them for the whole reception. The dress will just have to run in the sand. With regards to the guests im not too bothered with what they wear i think a lot of the ladies will go for heels and just take them off whilst walking on the sand - i have however said to anyone who has shown me their shoes or pics of what they want - 'remember the ceremony is on the sand'- at least then the decision is theirs. -
Catalonia Riviera Maya

Maya - I cant answer specifically to your airline as i am coming from the UK. But i have to take mine as my hand luggage allowance. As long as it complies with the hand luggage restrictions. Your airline really should be able to tell you though! -
I know how u feel on the ring front - me and FI always said 'if' we were to get married we would have a DW. But he kept saying 'if' - lol. So we went away to Poland in October 2009 and it coincided with his 30th so i got a cufflink box engraved with 'will u marry me on it' - he has shocked and said yes - but then everyone kept asking when i would get a ring - but i felt bad as i had just sprung it on him. Then on christmas day he gave me my ring; but i think i only wanted the ring as everyone kept asking me to see it. So i do know where you are coming from. He will suprise u with the ring when you least expect it; im sure of it.

Think I better get a wriggle on! When you say 'planning' what have you done?

I was hoping to stay more around $1500-$1700 with flight for 7 nights. So now I'm considering changing the resort, and losing my wedding deposit, unless prices go down. Sigh. I hate being stressed out this early in the game! And who was it who said planning a DW was easy! Have faith and it will all come good in the end. The prices will go down if people dont snap them up!

And I've should be going to my first dress shopping experience next sunday. I'm excited. I'm not planning on actually buying a dress just want to try some on to see how they fit. I did try on a dress that a friend of mine was considering selling to me but I had to do it at work and no one was around to critique me so I passed on it. (not to mention i'm 5'8 and she's 5'2) Oh I feel for you both with regards to prices - i was lucky my price was fixed as soon as the brochures came out last year - guess thats one thing we have better here in the UK - we seem to bomb out on everything else on prices when I look at the bargains others get on here with OOT bags and favours. Without prying too much is it a lot more than you expected to the point you may have to change location? With regards to the dress you were probably lucky there was no-one around i think those 6 inches would make a lot of difference on the dress front!!

Etiquette on cashing a check
josietoms replied to dolfinluck's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
i dont know what the 'official' ettiqute is but i would cash it and seen a thank you note explaining what you have done or will be doing with the money. He obviously knows when your wedding is and has chosen to give you your gift early. -

It must be v frustrating for all of you who are getting married in the first quarter of 2011 as over here in the UK from October 09 we could book our trip; ie flights and hotel for Jan 2011. They were even available all the way through to 30 April 2011. So the hotels must know their prices; I feel for you all. We went through as TA though so I dont know if this makes a difference.

Thanks soo much, abbey x Hey, welcome along. Im getting married there in Jan'11. If you search in the RIVIERA MAYA section there is a whole thread from past, present and future brides getting married at The Cat. Everyone on there is really helpful as I've been asking so many questions. I'm sure we'll be chatting lots in the run up :-)
