    hi

Congrats and Welcome to the BDW Forum. ~Happy Planning : )
  2. I use Trip Advisor also and used the site to narrow down our Wedding Resort. I was impressed with RIU based on that website because much of the feedback/ reviews were very good. And the pictures were beautiful. But most of the bad reviews that I read more often than not involved something of a personal nature that didn't typically happen to other guests just one of those quirky mishaps. Others allowed small things like being a picky eater, rusty nails or a paint/drywall/ minor maintenance issues to ruin their whole entire stay. I don't think 90% is at all bad even after reading the few bad reviews I'm still getting married at the RIU, I believe its one of the Best Overall Values on the whole island.
  3. Congrats and Welcome to the BDW Forum. I am also getting married in less than one month. ~Happy Planning and Can't Wait To See Your Pics
  4. What you are going through is completely normal and okay. I agree and was going to say the same. You should definitely start trying on several different types of gowns until you find the one. Welcome the consultant's help in regards to styles that they feel work for you and compliment your body type. ~Happy Dress Shopping : )
  5. I agree, the two events should not be intermingled you need to let your mother know that it makes you uncomfortable and brings sadness at a time that should be a happy time. These are two things that should be kept separate (I don't even think it should have been mentioned in the email). Definitely put your foot down and let her know how you feel.
  6. R&B and Pop remixes of Christmas carols yes. Like or Dislike Turkey and all the trimmings?
  7. Trying to go with something of sentimental meaning. We have long considered "Until The End of Time" by Justin Timberlake but I don't know if we can dance to it. But its "Our Song", it used to play on the radio almost every night sometimes 2-3 times a night when FI would come to see me after work back during our First Summer together when we were just dating. We'd just park and cuddle/snuggle up and listen to slow jams for hours. However, the first song we ever danced together to was at a Wailer's concert "Waiting in Vain"
  8. Congrats and Welcome to the BDW Forum : ) ~Happy Planning
  9. Very nice OOT bags, I love the cups, those are my favorite, esp the poem on the back and the palm tree. I'm working on Sand bottle favors right now, I will post them when I finish. ~Thanks for the photos and sharing : )
  10. Are you having one? We were but now aren't 100% decided. I just really am not feeling an AHR anymore, b/c of the added expense, stress and drama. But so many family members are unable to attend (like none of FI's siblings can make it over only 2 of his cousins and his parents). And so many have been asking if we are doing one. I'm shooting for a New Year's Eve party just to show the video, pictures and have hors d'oeuvres. FMIL offered to have it at a rec center and pay but failed to ask me or run it by me first. I told my fiance it would be nice if she asked first but I NEVER heard mention I was COMPLETELY turned off by a rec center wedding anyways esp one where I wouldn't be included in much of the planning which is what it seemed like. Formal or casual? I wouldn't want it to be too formal. If I had my way I'd really just have a New Year's Eve party. What made you decide to have one if you are? What's turning me off and away from it is what was my main drive for the DW, the added expense and stress. I love my friends and family but...I dunno, I just don't want to be bothered.
  11. I don't think it will be necessary but its good to have. I'd keep make up in it for touch ups, and extra hair pins (for if you're wearing your hair pinned up and something ends up out of place or falls down), chapstick and lip gloss are always nice to have, and a few tissues too.
  12. My godfather (who will be walking me down since my father past a year ago) will be wearing an embroidered linen suit (that looks just like FI's). As for FIL and the others I have no idea, just so long as they don't have on sportswear or jeans I will be okay. I hope they were short sleeved button ups and khakis or something along those lines.
  13. I don't intend on using an online RSVP site for my wedding but I did use one was used for my Baby Shower. Invitations, Free eCards and Party Planning Ideas from Evite (its free and they have nice templates too).

I have to agree, I thought I wouldn't have to bring a thing but when I saw my resort's options for my package I wasn't satisfied with them and knew I would more than likely have to do my own thing to jazz it up, while finding this forum has been a life saver and I truly love it it has also been overwhelming to read. But I'm also not one to "Keep up with the Jones's" part of the reason I'm having a practical DW. You have to remember that you are doing the DW for you and your fiance. Its all about your tastes and what you like. I have a huge bag of unused tea lights and even at my big sister who is also my MOH's disapproval I just might be incorporating them into my decor lol. I have a few different elegant and beautiful ideas for centerpieces and decor but with so little time left anything decor wise will definitely be accomplished/completed/ and or even incorporated on a time available basis.
  16. I am also traveling with a baby, our daughter will be 6 months at the time. Our TA told us that we will be able to hold her and will not have to purchase a seat for her. As for the ground transportation, he said of course to bring the car seat since we will need it. And he said the same that they check it at the door when you are getting on the plane at the stroller check and get it back when we land. I am afraid of it getting lost in regular luggage check though after what happened to FI's luggage when returning home the Summer before last as it was lost; I have also read in this forum that the airline we are flying with (Air Jamaica) has issues with losing people's luggage. I would hate to lose her carseat esp if it can be prevented so I'd rather use the stroller check. I also intend on bringing her stroller. Good tip on the whole sucking thing, I would've never known or thought of that. I'm a first time Mother : }
  17. Yes, just found out today that FI is going to have to buy his BM's linen suit because he cannot find one where he lives or at all for that matter (although I think it may have been a money issue too b/c of the cost of the trip on top of that too). I am only having a MOH stand in. I have given her the option to find whatever dress she likes so long as it is solid in color and matches a swatch I have given her.
  18. Thanks so much for sharing, I found a few things to help assemble our centerpieces with and some things for our OOT bags.
  19. Aaww such a heartwarming story. Congrats and welcome to the forum : )
  20. Congrats on making a decision that is right for you. I am also going to be a Riu Ocho Rios Bride. I went through it all too, all the research. We were booked at a Rose Hall resort that just wasn't up to our standards for the price we were paying, it was too much for too little and we also checked out Trip Advisor and saw pictures of the resort and the beach and the rooms were very mediocre not very pleasing to the eye. Then we had also decided on trying to do Beaches as well since we needed a family friendly resort but it was not in our price range either. We are very satisfied w/ the Riu so far, loved the pictures on Trip Advisor, and also like that we are able to pay for the wedding and other things upon our arrival (after all what you see is what you get). We also like their free package and the options available to us at the resort. ~Hope you have a beautiful wedding day and a wonderful time

  22. Fairly like even though I know they are completely sensationalized. I read People here and there if someone I'm interested in is a "cover story". Like or Dislike: White gold
  23. I can't even watch her on TV dislike Like or Dislike: Fried Calamari
  24. Congrats and Welcome to the forum. Some things that helped me and my fiance... Narrowing down a few countries Checking out resorts on TripAdvisor.com (Most reviews are honest to the point while a few reviews can be personal issues pretty easy to weed them out but one thing is for sure a real photo --unlike a marketing photo-- that hasn't been retouched or photshopped is worth a thousand words). Viewing destination wedding videos on youtube that people had in countries we were considering (seeing how some countries' officiant's oversaw the wedding/ conducted the ceremony was a major factor as well as a deal breaker for some locations). Price figuring out which resort had the best bang for the buck Talking to a travel agent (was the last thing we did once we narrowed down a country/island really helped get the ball rolling and put our plans into motion). Last but certainly not least joining this site was big help in tying together my lose ends and getting ideas and advise from other brides who have been thru the same process (even at your same location). Priceless. Remember location is more than half the battle, once you figure that out everything else seems to fall in place. ~Happy Planning
