  1. Welcome ashore BDW! I am also getting married in the Dominican Republic but after you in the late summer/fall. Look forward to bouncing ideas off with you!
  2. I am not particularly picky with the venue decor so I will probably just keep the gazebo as is and save money. Personally I have no problems with the red carpet, but I would have to see it in person to be sure.

Although the airfare and accomodations can be a bit cheaper from Southern Ontario, the wedding packages seem to be more or less the same wherever you go. You just got to find the package that best suits your needs.
  4. I would've joined but on September 23 I will be at my competition weight and so by December I will have definately gained and not lost...looks like fun though. Maybe I'll join season 8.
  5. I don't believe the DR has a mandatory residency requirement. The 4 day rule (or in my case the 3 day rule) is only a resort policy and is not a requirement of the Dominican Republic law.
  6. Hey, has anyone asked about a bonfire? Can they do that at Dreams PC? If so, what is the cost like?
  7. Sometimes people are meant to be in our life only for a short period of time and then it is time for them to move on. I think this is time for her to move on, although she strikes me as kinda crazy...just watch yourself for the next little bit.

I've been debating whether to fork out another $1000 for the dresses, but I don't know if I can/should. I have my MOH and 2 BMs - we're paying for all their accommodations (including their sig others) to stay at our villa for 4 nights, which includes all their drinks and meals (all of this was a HUGE cost but one that we decided to do because we loved the villa and wanted our wedding there). Plus, I'm foregoing a "destination" bachelorette and just having my girls together for dinner a couple nights before the wedding... They pay for their plane fare, about $500-600. In our group of friends, that's the normal plane fare because we're all over the country (which is a reason we decided to do a DW rather than east coast). I wanted them to pick out the dresses so that they could control the costs, but in sending them some "inspiration" ideas, my MOH fell in love with a really expensive dress ($350 w/o alterations). The BMs loved them too and wanted to go forward, probably before they knew cost. My MOH urged the $$ dresses but no one has bought anything and the clock is ticking. I was going to let them wear their own jewelry and shoes so that they could personalize their looks, and will pay for their mani/pedi, hair and gifts...but now I'm thinking I should be buying the dresses too...especially since I don't have "back up" options. I know $350 is excessive, but I didn't pick them...sigh... Any thoughts?? Thanks ladies! Well considering they are so far paying $600 for airfare and the dresses cost $350 that brings it to a total of $950. And most of us our asking our guests to pay $1200+. I think you are okay to let them pay for a dress that they clearly like. I don't think you have to worry about it too much. If cost was an issue, they would let you know but it seems like they are very supportive of you so far and you of them.
  9. That is what I found on the internet and sent to Deyanira for a quote. She told me $350 but I am not sure if it was for the chuppah in general or to have that particular set up with the dangly stuff and the flowers and the tulling.
  10. Okay attempt #2 via an internet link: Google Image Result for http://boards.weddingbee.com/?bb_attachments=178962&bbat=12934&inline A pic of the chuppah I sent to deyanira for a quote. Hope it helps to give context although I can't guarantee that she meant the $350 cost for exactly that set up with drapings...I think it should though.

I have attempted to post a picture of the chuppah that I sent to Deyanira to get a quote on. I am not sure if it will be identical to the one she quoted $350 on but just to give you an idea...okay it keeps saying invalid file for a jpg so I'll have to work on that later. Here are the menus I was sent. 32 buffet.doc 55 buffet .doc
  12. I like between 6 and 7. It gives enough time to drop by from work without being too late. People can also drop by anytime in between as people will probably order food and it usually takes some time for it to come by and to eat it. We can say 6:15 or 6:30 as an 'official' time just to give people a focal point.
  13. Oh thank goodness! Glad you were able to hash it out! Now you can get all gushy about wedding planning! Phew! I felt that tension for you for sure! Now relief! The make up part can also be quite fun ...I think I'll go ask my FI how long it has been since our last argument
  14. Friday, October 2, 2009 sounds good to me although it will take some getting creative with my work schedule. At Eastside Mario's then?
  15. Okay so I looked at the buffet menu she sent me and it said $32 pp...I emailed her to ask why she said $55 when the menu says $32 and she responed that the $55 menu and the $32 menu are not the same...then re-sent me the $32 menu. So perhaps there is a $55 menu that she thought she sent me the first time but didn't?? I dunno, I am not going to question it anymore and just go with the $32 menu and be done with it. Oh, just FYI: - Apparently they will not put flowers on cake due to potential contamination. - If you want a ribbon around your cake, you have to bring it yourself. - The gazebo fits 100 people, - Rehersal dinners cost the same as the dinner packages. - Chuppahs cost $350 for those thinking of a beach ceremony. - There is no upper limit for the plated dinners but after 50 it is recommended to do buffet for faster service. Hope that helps someone

Okay I just got an email from Deyanira that the buffet was $50-55 plus $26 taxes and gratuities o_O?? She said those were 2009 prices. Am I missing something?
  17. Hey guys thanks for the responses to my questions and a special thanks for the pictures of the flowers, bouquet, and cake. It really helps for my planning Has anyone asked about the food for kids? I want to have just chicken fingers, fries, and veggies for the kids instead of rack of lamb...I was told half price for kids but I think that is only if they are eating what the adults are eating. I heard of someone else paying $4.95 for burgers and fries.

  19. Sounds good. I think we should hash the date and location out sooner so that there is ample time to mark it off. Downtown around Union station I think is most central and ideal. Maybe we could do eastsides this time? It is a bit up front street from Jack Astors?
  20. Hmm...did you go through the entire thread? It is a bit lengthy and so it may be burried in there somewhere. When I did a search, that was the only one that came up. I also search RIU Mambo and nothing came up...yea I guess PM her.
  21. Glad it worked out for you! Hopefully things are more smooth sailling from here on.
  22. Did 35 minute cardio this morning. I have yet to do my chest and then I will hopefully do trampolining this evening for my second cardio...if my FH ever picks up his phone
  23. Hey, I am just saying if it were me. I don't take ignoring lightly. But then I dont' know about the context of this fight. But at this point, it is getting kinda prolonged for no seemingly good reason. I am all for giving space but it has to be finite and not unreasonably long.
