I am going completely back and forth on this issue. It does seem rather expensive--and kind of a hassle to get all the stuff down there. I definitely see how it can make the guest feel special and welcome. I thought about spending the money I would spend on OOT bags on something else, like chartering a catamaran or something. I just really don't know. Or just not doing anything much at all and saving the money. I feel like our budget could be better spent elsewhere, but maybe that is selfish.

I have traveled to the area many times and have never exchanged money. They gladly accept the US dollar everywhere we went--most even preferred it. I'm not sure about UK currency. When down there, if you do decide to go with pesos, be careful where you do your exchange at. Maybe google current exchange rates first--have heard of many people getting ripped off.

I'm glad to hear you had such a wonderful wedding. I too am experiencing similiar things. My fiance's father is refusing to come. People are backing out because of the price and the "dangers." I've traveled to Mexico numerous times and have always felt safe. It's hard convincing others though, especially ones that have never left their home states.

Weddings seem to bring out the drama...it's almost bizarre. We've been going through this too.

P.S. I'm getting married at Dreams Tulum on June 11, 2011. And I know DT is strict about the time they cut off your reception. No music or dancing past 10:30.

I'm torn about the buffet idea at Dreams Tulum. A formal sit down dinner is nice, but a buffet would take less time and leave more time for dancing and having fun--and allow people a chance to mingle more.

Ditto for me. Trying to get to 150 so I can FINALLY open attachments.

I have been wondering what kinds of things people wrote in their welcome letters...like some examples and what not. What attractions did you direct people to...other than the ruins obviously? And where did you find your information? Did you use travel brochures or anything like that?

I have been kinda worried about the per person fee for cake and champagne and the cocktail hour. Have past brides that had over 20 guests really been charged these fees?

I am kind of a newbie to this site. I've been lurking around for quite some time, but haven't posted a whole lot. We've changed dates a time or two, but now it's actually happening. We are getting married at Dreams Tulum on June 11th, 2011. We have paid deposits and actually sent invitations. I'm so excited. It feels a little surreal as I've been engaged for nearly 2 years. I've noticed that weddings really bring out the family drama. Any Dreams Tulum advice would be greatly appreciated.

i booked DJ Bijan as our wedding dj...he was way cheaper than our resort's DJ and even cheaper than just renting the sound system and plugging in an IPOD. He's been great with communication too.

My fiance and I are going barefoot. Bridesmaids are wearing kinda dressier leather flip flops--not cheap plastic Old Navy ones.
