Kinda sounds like a dis to me. It sucks but I'm not going to let it stop me from having the time of my life, if she WANTED to come, she'd come. Good luck to the rest of you ladies, at lease we know we're not alone in this issue. In my case it's my sister. I knew from the beginning my mother and father would not be able to make it to Mexico. My sister, however, was "wherever you decide to go, I'll be there!" Even up to the day I booked the trip this was her claim. The day AFTER I put the deposit on the trip, she calls and says she can't afford to go. So, my FI and I decided to pay for her to come. And guess what, she still says she can't go, her husband didn't want to come to Mexico and he doesn't want her to travel alone. I explained to her that she would not be traveling alone, she would be flying with us and our 1st cousin who is like a sister to us, and that she could stay with my FI's mom who is traveling alone, or with some friends or family that are coming. I feel like I have done all I can to ensure a safe and cost free trip for her and she still is turning me down. Honestly, I think it has more to do with her husband than all the excuses she gave me, but I can't help being hurt that she did an about face seemingly over night!!! I haven't talked to her in a week because I really don't know what exactly to say. My family keeps calling me saying I should call my sister, but is it really my responsibility to make her feel better about backing out on me. (she was not only the MOH but was doing the hair for me and the 2 other bridesmaids)! Did I mention she didn't even call me to tell me she wasn't going to accept my offer to pay, she TEXT me the refusal!!!! Sorry about the ranting, but I'm just hurt right now...
  2. Hey Ladies. Just wanted to share that ORBITZ is running a sale on the Barcelo Resort Complex right now. I have been working with a Travel Agent and they were able to price match Orbitz prices for us. We were able to book a 9 night trip with r/t airfare, stay at the Palace for 9 nights AI, taxes, insurance and r/t transfers for ~$2100.00 (flights out of ST. Louis, MO). For anyone who hasn't booked the trip yet, it may be worth checking into..... My travel agent was surprised by the rates ORBITZ was offering. (Just a note though that the Orbitz price on their website does not include transfers) Also thanks to everyone on this forum, the information shared has been priceless. I feel like I could have never been able to plan this upcoming wedding without ya'll!!!! Cheers to BDWF!!!
  3. They both look amazing, but there is something special about #1!

  7. So happy to hear the site visit went well! Looking forward to the pics and thanks for the great information!
  8. It is true that you have to stay at the Palace to be married at the Gazebo. If anyone is still looking for the 2010 prices, the packages and inclusions are listed in another posting under Barcelo Palace brides. Hope this helps!
  9. We are getting married at the Palace on May 29, 2010. I just booked our trip through our TA for ourselves and guests. Prior to sending the manifest, I had been in contact with WC Victoria myself, but since receiving our travel arrangements, Victoria has sent everything through our TA and honestly, she receives much quicker responses from the WC than I ever did! We booked just last week and Victoria immediately emailed a "guest list" and stated it needed to be completed and sent back to them approx 2 months prior to the wedding. This was to try to ensure that our guests would be in close proximity to us on the resort, as well as for planning purposes re: food, drink, wedding set up etc...I would imagine this would apply for all the properties on the resort.
  10. Last time we vacationed there we did an excursion which was a 1/2 day at the ruins at Tulum and the second 1/2 of the day was spent at Xel-Ha snorkeling/water park which also has a Dolphin swim for those who were interested. It was great fun and everyone in our group really enjoyed it. For our wedding in May 2010 we are going to charter a catamaran for a 4 hour sail/snorkeling adventure. Open bar and sandwiches/snacks options are available as well. Rates were not too bad, depending on how many people are in your group. I believe the name of the company we looked into was Paradise Catamarans...though it would be a good way for everyone to get together after the wedding and relax before different members of our group start to head for home...
  11. Congratulations Future Mrs.D.! I received my confirmation yesterday! So now we're official too:) May 29th, 2010 @4:00pm at the Palace Gazebo. It does seem so much more real now.
  12. I like both #2 and #4. They are both stunning. The bodice and back of #4 is beautiful, if it were altered to fit you, I think it would be breathtaking. However, #2 is very elegant and beautiful as well. Tough decision!
  13. I had decided on black, ivory, and lime green with accents of watermelon pink, lime green, and yellow in the flowers. Also now considering navy, teal, turquoise and purple sort of like peacock feather colors....can't decide?
  14. Hi Ladies! I'm having trouble downloading the packages from the site and I've tried the WC's at the Barcelo and I'm being told the packages are not available yet, which I know is not true!!!! Would someone mind forwarding me the documents from Barcelo for the 2010 packages and cocktail hour info please, please Thanks so much! My email is [email protected] Thank you, thank you, thank you
  15. That's what I think we are going to do also..a low key barbeque/picinic type reception for friends and family who could not attend. We priced doing a more formal type reception here, but like sfrench0621 stated, it was more expensive to have just a reception here than it was to have the whole wedding/stay in Mexico!!! So we scratched that idea pretty quickly...
  16. Hi everyone, To FutureMrs.D I completely agree. I'm leaning towards the Strawberry package simply for the outside reception. I really don't want to be in a banquet room when we flew everyone to Mexico... My FI is not happy that we would have to spend so much extra money on the meal per person over 15 guests, like 66 dollars p/p That can really add up!!! His point of view is that our guests have already paid for their meals in their AI rates, so why pay so much more for the extra meal when the food at the restaraunts is very good I guess I can see his point, but I also understand that the extra rate is for the private staff and that it is supposedly "different" food than what is typically served at the a la cartes. It's making the decision making very hard as we are not sure exactly how many guests we'll have, but right now, it's looking close to 30. Sorry for all the venting, my actual questions is: Also, are ya'll having an at home reception in addition or just having the party in Mexico....? Also in response to the photographer question: I contacted WC Victoria at the resort and she emailed me back saying that as long as my photographer was a guest staying at least one night at the resort, that this was fine. She did not say anything about having to pay the fee since my photographer had a room for 3 nights. I did make a copy of this email to take with me in case this becomes an issue next may.
  17. Hey VarsityGolf (Ashley)! I'm also from Missouri, Columbia MO actually and am getting married at the Palace on May 29, 2010... Looks like we'll be there at the same time! Hope the planning is going well for you. It's been pretty frustrating trying to arrange the details from afar and the WC's take so long to reply. This new photography rule has had me crazy! I've booked a photographer from St. Louis to stay for four days and as far as I know this is OK, I haven't been told otherwise... Also curious if anyone has received the 2010 packages It's hard to stick to a budget when you don't know exactly how much the wedding package is going to cost
  18. Hi Jacilynda! I am flying in my photographer from Missouri and not using a local photographer, I notified the WC's at the Barcelo Palace about this and have not been told that I could not have her shoot my wedding. Perhaps the difference is she is from out of the country and not a "local" competitor, or maybe it is that they will be paying guests of the hotel/wedding for a four night stay...or maybe I told them before the deadline and didn't know it.....Not sure... But I don't want to mislead anyone and would suggest for all future brides to Please clarify with the Barcelo wedding coordinators about their new policy before booking your photographer as I have also read news about changes..... It seems really rather unfair for Barcelo to make these changes, particularly since they do not even offer photography as part of their wedding packages. Unless they have changed their inclusions for 2010 (I'm still waiting to see the prices and inclusions for the 2010 packages) Anyone have these new packages yet??
  19. Hi Ash H. I am also getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace. My date is May 29,2010! I am flying in my own photographer as well. For the price, I'm getting 3 days worth of coverage and perks that would not be possible with a resort photog. The Barcelo has changed its rules about outside vendors, however, I have been told that as long as the photographer is a paying guest at the resort, they are allowed....
  20. Choosing colors has been a really difficult decision... I think we have finally decided on something classic, Black and Ivory. My dress is Ivory and the BM dresses are short and black to keep it from being toooo formal. We are going to accent with bright colors: lime green, a bright watermelon pink, yellows to add that tropical feel to the flowers and favors etc...At least that's the plan for now, but May 2010 seems very far off knowing how often I have changed my mind with this topic...
  21. Hi TrishB12! I'm getting married at the Barcelo Resort May 29, 2010. In the email I received from my WC, she stated that the new 2010 packages would not be available until June. I received that email in Feb, and have not received any new information yet... Hope this helps.
  22. Thanks kbbride for all your information! This was really helpful! I loved the pictures of the Coral Grill as well and emailed my WC about reserving this location for my 2010 wedding! The information about the centerpieces was very helpful as well! Thanks again and congratulations on a beautiful wedding!!!!
