  1. I have emailed and got a response pretty quickly. I am not sure what I need to do before going there. I reserved the package and all, but since i am not sure how many people are actually coming... I am at a loss...
  2. My wedding is oct 4th, and i haven't heard a peep from Chandlyn. I am completely confused about what I need to do.
  3. We pay $40 for her to clean our 1050 sq foot house once a month. She does my parent's place too and she charges them $70 for a 3 bedroom house. She does a great job, except she puts things away in places that don't make sense and she will only start the laundry, but you have to remember to look into the washing machine the days that she comes other wise you have moldy towels, etc. Eh, you get what you pay for...
  4. Or just extending the construction by building everything that you can think of and more. That is crazy!!
  5. I am so sorry to hear this. It must be very scary. You never know whats coming down the pike for you guys. Who knows? A year from now you might both look back at this and think "that was the best thing that could have happened." I am sure that something better will come along. It almost always does.
  6. It was. I will wait until you guys see it... *dying to dish*
  7. Cousins.. not really. I am a media buyer. Not really a field where there is much partying going on. Networking... Yeah, if I was in NYC. I am just soooooooo bored. This is a city that I loved to vist and hated living in. Why on earth did I agree to this? It isn't much different than me living in Philly and FI living in Toronto. We don't see each other much more anyways. The only difference is that I am miserable and lonely. Put it this way, When I left 10 years ago, I had NO INTENTION of ever looking back. Keeping up with people down here was NOT a priority. They represented old, sad no friends me. Philly represented new and COOL me. now I am back to just being littl old sad, no friends me.
  8. There has to be a way to get back at her... What is her issue with you? That is so over the top...
  9. I am sooo missing Philly right now. The FI and I just moved to my hometown of Miami in March and boy does it suck. He is living with his dad and I am living with my mom so that we can save some money and get on our feet. We both found jobs pretty quickly, but he works weekends now and I work weekdays 9-5. My job only has 2 other co-workers and they are both married so they don't hang out much. So, basically all i do is go to work and go home. This is coming from a life in Philly where I say my friends everyday (especially my BFF), knew most of the city, had neighborhood hangouts and could pretty much walk into any room and know at least one person (being a promoter and DJ was pretty good for popularity). Now, everyone says reach out to old friends, but to tell you the truth... I don't really have any. I was a huge nerd in High school, so when I got out I had very little motivation to K.I.T. with the bullies who taunted me to no end. I went out and made friends some place else. Now I am back, lonely and MISERABLE!! I have gained like 15 pounds in the 2 months because all I do is watch TV, plan the wedding and sleep. I talk to my girls in Philly every night, but they really can't come and visit me down here if they want to go to the wedding, so I just miss them.... Where the hell do people make friends in this God forsaken city!!!

  11. I too am in the short boat. i am 5 foot even, but my mom still argues me down that I am 4 foot 11 3/4... Hollow to hem, huh? Sounds like a good idea.
  12. Well, Let me put it to you this way... The ROR is a pretty special spot. I am the 3rd member of my extended family to get married there. That's right, they have had to deal with the same crazy brood 3 times and there will be 2 more after me. Apparently my family will travel to this resort every 6 months or so. The ROR was chosen by my guests, mostly. My uncle has declared it his "favorite resort". It's a good choice.
  13. Depends on if you want fun wording or formal wording. If you are looking for something "fun" and "jamaican" here is my blind stab. Forgive the corniness, but I am at work so I am just making this quick.... One Love Shed those winter blahs and welcome the summer with us as we celebrate our engagement by bringing the Spirit of Jamaica right here to New Jersey. We provide the sunshine, sand, and all the frozen drinks you can drink. All you have to do is come dressed in your island finery ready to dance to some Irie tunes. ... Blah. blah. blah. Just a stab in the dark here... balh. blah. blah. i don't know just my shot in the dark...
  14. Hmm. I don't know about the childcare down there. I think that I remember reading somewhere that they have something during the day for kids that were a certain age range, but because almost all the kids attending my wedding are either over or under that age I forgot. We are kinda all splitting up the kid duty for the trip, but youmight be onto something with the traveling with a designated "kid wrangler". hmmmm.... Worth looking into.
  15. Wow. You have a lot of questions... Look through the forums. Most of them are answered some where. I will try to take a stab at these.... 1. My soon to be father-in-law is a paster here in the US and we would like to incorporate him into the service in some way, would that be possible to incorporate him even if it's just to say a prayer or do we need to have the Jamaican minister do the entire service?you would have to check with chandlyn, but I can't see why you can't incorporate your FIL. 2. If we choose the religious ceremony will we be able to incorporate a unity candle lighting during the ceremony?Don't know. 3. We are looking at purchasing the Caprice wedding package and would like to know what the reception consists of. Is this a "sit down" dinner with music and dancing?Yes. Look through the forum for the menu for the private and semi-private reception menus. Depending on the number of guests, you can opt for what you would like. There might be a charge for changes, but it is up to you. 4. What kind of food is served at the reception? Will the guests just order as if they were eating at a regular restaurant? Again, look in the forums regarding the receptions. There are menus, table info, etc. 5. Will we be able to have the reception right after the wedding ceremony? All receptions begin at 6:30. When you schedule your wedding try to get the last time (4pm) and you will be pretty close to the time. 6. Will the cake be served at the reception or right after the wedding? Cake is at the reception. 7. Will we be able to provide our own cake serving set for the cake cutting? Cant see why not. 8. At the reception will we be able to have our special song played so that we are able to have our first dance as a married couple to "our song"? You can get the DJ to play the song if you would like, or you can bring down cds, etc. 9. What do the Caprice wedding package decorations include for the wedding ceremony?not sure, but it covers basic flowers, etc. everything else like the chair covers, aisle runners, etc are extra. 10. Do you have pictures available to send of wedding decorations, wedding locations, bouquet, boutonniere and cake designs? Take a few minutes and look through the forum. Many brides have posted thier pics from their weddings there and stuff from the ROR. Most of the info is there somewhere. 11. Does the spa offer someone to do my make-up for me (the Bride) on the wedding day?Yes. There is a salon there that has done wonderful jobs on hair and makeup for the brides. 12. Is there Golf offered close to the resort? Not sure. I heard something about there being a golf course off the property. I haven't a clue here. 13. Will there be free transportation for all guests to and from the airport to the resort on both the day of arrival and the day of departure?arranged by you TA when she books fyour package. not provided by the resort. 14. Will we be able to hold a rehearsal dinner for the bridal party the night before the wedding?Sure. you can do what you like, but for the most part there is a fee for "private functions" 15. Does the resort offer group guide tours either free of charge or at a rate? There are free activities on the resort, but there is a charge for off premise stuff. Most of them are so worth it... Check out the ROR website. 16. Will we be able to provide our own cake topper or does the cake already come with a cake topper? Yes. 17. We would like to provide a welcome gift to all of our guests who will be staying at your resort? most of the brides here are/have done Out Of Town bags (aka OOT bags) 18. If so, are we allowed to have the gifts placed in their rooms on arrival? Yes. there is a fee per item. Most are opting to give out our bags at welcome receoptions, etc. 19. If so, are we allowed to arrange to have them shipped to the resort prior to our arrival?I don't think the resort accepts shipments. 20. Will you offer a room block for the guests so that they are all able to stay at your resort? You need to speak to your TA. I don't work for the RIU, but your TA should know all about that. 21. How far in advance do our wedding guest's rooms need to be booked? again, up to you, your TA, etc. I would think 30days is good. 22. Is October a good time to hold a wedding in Jamaica? it's jamaica. when isn't a good time. My wedding is Oct 4th, so I hope so.
  16. Here's a mix of some of the crowd pleaseres for ya! Selecta!!! John Holt "Love I can Feel" and "If I were a carpenter"(perfect for a wedding) Sizzla "Pure Love" Sizzla "Black Woman and Child" or "Knowing Each other" "She's Royal" (Artist name is slipping my mind right now. be back with that one) Fidel "First time I met you" damien marley "Beautiful" Jacob Miller "I Shall Be Released" Let me hit up the archives when I get home... (Got me all excited at work..) *Run di tune dem*
  17. Oh. My. Goodness. I am so glad that someone else is having the torture of the cake favors. I thought my mom was the only one on this tip. $350 for the cake? Not bad. can you post the pics of what you are looking at? The Fondant icing is a must here as well.
  18. We are going with a DJ, though it may not be the best plan. Both the FI (his dad USED to be a DJ as well) and I are DJs ourselves and when we go out we tend to be very critical of the DJs. Hopefully he is pretty good and the FI or I don't feel compelled to kick him out of the way and just do it ourselves. (Picturing myself in my dress with the headphones on. *Actually might be kinda cool, at least for 1 picture*)
  19. That is crazy expensive. I think that it should be ok as far as getting them on time, though...

I think this is a standard option at Riu. I am asking Chandlyn to split the layers.....one layer, traditional rum cake, the other layer, yellow....maybe. That is actually a great idea. it is good to know there are so many of us jamaicans getting married at home.
