  1. These are amazing ... I am leaving soon too ... I will make sure to follow the list ... did anyone talk about bringing money -- I mean small bills for tips ($1 bills).

I have been stressing lately over all of this!! For the pricing, I think it's all relative ... it's chaper than the half moon and the ritz but more expensive than a lower grade resort ... such as the Breezes. For the reception, I am paying about 60/person but depending on your menu, the cost may be higher or lower. All inclusive per night is 249/night for the cheapest room and it goes up from there. If you go on their website - Montego Bay Jamaica Resorts and All-Inclusive Beach Hotels - Rose Hall Resort and Country Club -- click on the Weddings link on the top right corner of the page -- then in the weddings page, click on wedding package and catalog - the file will show different options and some of the prices ... I will make sure to post pictures when I come back and will be able to tell you if it's worth every cent I am spending there on my wedding ...

Did you notice any other areas maybe another grassy area overlooking the water in a private area to do the wedding? I am anticipating about 50 guests and a few kids. I am looking for something reasonably priced with lots of fun activities for all especially ppl in their 20s and 30s. Did you check out Half Moon when you were there as well? From what I remember, the area of the reception is closer to the beach than the resort rooms. Here's a picture of part of the Sugar Mills area when it is not set up for a reception The gazebo for the ceremony is close to the resort rooms. I know they have different ceremony areas but I did not ask to see the others since my mind was set on a gazebo from the start and I believe that's the only gazebo there -- but they have other settings ... on a golf course, by some water falls, and others I can't remember. Here's a picture with a different angle of the gazebo (the back where there is a small garden). However, if you look in the back, you see part of the building that has the guests rooms - hence, it is very close to the guest rooms. They did not tell us a limit of the time to party but since we are paying by the hour, our reception is from 7 until midnight (we thought 5 hours to eat, drink and dance is enough) -- our ceremony is a 5 and we have a cocktail hour at 6. Then everyone goes to Sugar Mills for the reception. I did not visit Half moon since it was over my budget for a large wedding (150 guests). But if you have a smaller number of guest, Half moon may be great since my friends told me it was amazingly beautiful.
  4. I don't know about Negril but I am getting married at the Rose Hall in Montego Bay and they are charging us $250/hour for the DJ ... If you are getting ripped off, so am I ...
  5. Not at all -- it's great !!! I am doing the same thing ... actually, we are giving away TWO CD (we got double sided cd cases). Our taste in music is different since I like french caribbean music and he like english caribeean music but we both like "regular" love songs (RnB, contemporary, etc). CD1 will have my pics (7 of my favorite love songs with 7 caribeean french love songs) and CD2 will have his pics (7 of his favorite love songs with 7 reggae love songs). Like that his side of my family will get introduced to my type of music and my side to his.
  6. We are bringing both ... just for the telephone numbers stored in them ... but what we decided to do was to get 2 prepaid phones last time we were in Jamaica. We gave the jamaican prepaid phone numbers to our family and friends and told them to call these cells when they want to reach us in Jamaica ... the prepaid phone did not cost much and the best thing is that people can call us even if we don't buy/have minutes for the phone. However, we can't call out if there are no more minutes. for the laptop, we just bring it in case we need documents or something for the wedding ... and to offload our digital camera pictures since we know we will take lots of pictures before and after the wedding ...
  7. CONGRATS you look soooooo beautiful ... and I love the colors !!!
  8. Great thread !! I was wondering the same thing. We are doing our AHR on August 23 in Montreal - Canada for our friends/family that could not make it. We rented a hall but don't know anything about the schedule, the food, the music, formal or not ... nothing ... I already saw good answer here ... keep them coming !!! I am in the same boat and haven't started thinking about what to do with my AHR.
  9. HAVE A GREAT TIME !!! Bring back lots of pics
  10. Couple of pictures for the Rose Hall Resort --- more to come in one month!!! -- I am so stressed these days looking at the tickler ---- Gazebo (I am not having a wedding on the beach but on this gazebo -- not with those decorations though - they are not my colors) Reception (that's pretty much how I want it -- this reception site is called the sugar mills)
  11. Great thread !!! My hair is very thick and curly and do not know what to do with it. I stopped relaxing since it was thinning and breaking my hair after a few years and frankly, I did not like all the chemicals ... I either braid or hot comb my hair ... or put on a wig on bad days but this will not work for a wedding in Jamaica. I found out about "treebraids" (braids that look like a weave -- see picture). They take less than 2 hours to put in and to take out (since it's only conrows under it all), they cover all my hair, they were not affected by humidity when I went to Jamaica with them .... I have been doing them on and off for the past year and thought about having them for my wedding (putting half up, half down) but ALL MY GIRLS are against it since everyone is used to see me in "treebraids". But now I am back to square one ... Humidity will kill my hair if I hotcomb it - so that's not an option. A weave is an option but I tried one last month to practice and the hair kept tangling after just 1 hour -- I had to brush every hour to keep it smooth and every time I brushed, hair kept coming out... I bought what I thought was a good weave at $30/pack... ... anyone can suggest a good brand? I am not used to the weaving thing ... what's the normal price for a quality weave? What's fusion? how much would it cost? do any of you have pictures of that?
  12. Hello !! well, I am getting married at the Rose Hall next month !!! When I come back, I will provide a full review with pictures ... they did a multi-million $$$ renovation to the place and they are apparently completely done. Their prices went up since last year but I was able to lock into my contract with last year's prices. We have about 150 guests and the resort is kid friendly (they even have a small waterpark). If you have specific questions about the Rose Hall Resort, don't hesitate to let me know ...
  13. Welcome and Congrats!!!!

  15. OMG ... I have not checked BDW in a few days and now I missed out on this tip ... as far as I know, Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays. Hopefully this deal will be on this coming week. Thanks for the tip!!
  16. Wow ... I am from Montreal (end of Laval Ouest --2 minutes from St-Eustache) and I am not missing the snow at all. Actually, I do miss the snow a little but I can't stand the cold. Anyway, I was talking to my sister this morning and she said that Montreal has not seen snow like that since the 70s ... that's amazing ... be safe ... and stay warm ... P.S -- your house looks beautiful ..

I did not know we could not travel with sparklers. I wanted to buy some for my wedding in Jamaica -- my bridal party would pass them around before our first dance and they would light it up when we dance (since our reception is at night it would look great for the pictures) ... now I have to figure out where to buy them in Jamaica if I want to do this ....
  18. THANKS!!! 2 years ago I went to a sale like that at Dillards with a girlfriend ... It was amazing ... we went to 3 different Dillards that day in Atlanta ... we ended up spending about 800 dollars each abut it was ALL WORTH IT both our cars and trunks were full of clothes and shoes !!! .. now with the wedding and the new house, I won't spend as much but I am going FOR SURE tomorrow (I do need a nice dress for the rehearsal dinner)... Thanks for the tip ... You rock!!!

See changes in her quote above... pretty sad song ... are you using it at your wedding ? I don't recognize the words, who sings it? Celine Dion? By the way, que "reste-t-il" is "What's left of ..." , "what's remaining .." ... other thant that, I made some little changes (my preferences) but Melissa did a great job.

I will post pictures when I get it ...

  22. Hello Ladies!! I have 8 I-Zone 200 polaroid cameras for sale at $3. It's the small polaroid camera that was popular a few years ago (teenagers would use them to take instant pictures and stick the pictures in their lockers, scrapbooks or other stuff since the film had sticky back). I don't think they are sold to the general public anymore but there's quite a bit of them on ebay. Here's the story. I thought I would do the idea of a guestbook where guests would take their pictures and stick them in the guestbook ... FI was not to thrilled with that idea but I told him I found a great deal on ebay -- 10 cameras for $65 -- I bought them but between the time I won the bid and the time I actually received these cameras, my idea has completely changed. I am doing a shutterfly guestbook (idea I got from another BDWer) and already paid and put my order on shutterfly. Now, I have not told FI yet since he thinks I am spending way too much money on things I end up not using ... I am hoping to get rid of them before he notices ... I may sell them back on ebay but if some of you had this idea and were looking for these cameras for your wedding, let me know. I am selling them for $3 to you gals and you pay shipping -- why so low? 1) they did not come with the film -- I am actually keeping 2 of the 10 and going to buy I-Zone 200 sticky film to use them for personnal stuff (I never had one when they were popular, I want to experience what that fuss was about!). 2) I really really really want to get rid of them. I don't need all of them and don't want FI on my case again about spending money on random things ...out of sight, out of mind !!! Also, if there are some persons interested who are located in Toronto Canada, I will be in Toronto for the weekend of March 14 -- and we could meetup instead of you paying international shipping fees. Picture of one Izone camera below:
  23. Not decided yet but really like All My Life (K-CI & Jojo) ... just love the words .."all my life, I prayed for someone like you and I thank GOD that I finally found you ..." Another one I might pick is Lost without you (Robin Thicke)
