Not that I want to add fuel to the fire...but your FI's stepmother seems outright selfish to me. I don't get it. Seem like if it were just his dad, he'd be willing to help, but stepmom is probably giving him an earful. I bet if it were her son getting married, she be willing to use "their" money to help out. Okay sorry...I realize I'm not helping the situation, but for some reason this really irked me. It's really not the money that bothers me, but the reasoning and intent behind it rubs me the wrong way.

Our dresses...gallery
SusanK replied to Mishi's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Thanks for doing that Mishi! All the dresses are so beautiful...and I bet they are even better in person! I'll make sure to add mine just as soon as it arrives (June). I can't wait! -
I'm with Melissa...I really like #2. They have some bling, but are also light and airy. I think they would look nice with a loose up-do. Are you doing a flower in your hair as well? I just think that the heavier earrings along with a flower might draw attention away from your beautiful dress. I guess that's why I vote for #2... I love #4 as well...but my personal style tends to be a little more casual (Try as I may, I'm just not "elegant" by nature So if you are...then don't listen to me

Getting Legally Married in Cabo or California??????
SusanK replied to DreaW's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
I think we are going to get legally married in Wisconsin, before we head down to Cancun. Just seems easier...and I faint every time I have blood drawn. I want to have time to work out some ceremony/reception details before guests begin to arrive, and then we want to be able to spend some time relaxing poolside with them. I guess I just don't want to be running around worried about tests and paperwork. Does anyone know what yo have to do to get legally married in the states? Or does it vary from state to state? -

So I know I'm a little late posting our engagement story, but better late than never, right A little background: To be in our family, is to be a skiier. My parents, two older sisters, younger brother, and I all love Colorado skiing. Every year for years, we've made a trip out to the mountains. We rent a house and hunker down for a week of eating, drinking, and of course, skiing. Our group has grown in recent years...both of my sisters are now married, and my 3-year old niece is officially a ski bunny too. Both of my brothers-in-law, had to prove capable before they could qualify as husband material January '05, my FI Matt, joined the crew for the first time. He did well, and I give him a lot of credit. It's not an easy thing to spend a week, 24-7, with your girlfriend's family. He did great, and I think it was at that point my whole family knew he was a keeper! In January '06, we did it all over again. This year, we all headed to Aspen. The first few days were business as usual. By the third day, I knew Matt was getting tired trying to keep up with us, so when he suggested that we go over to the easier part of the mountain and do a little skiing on our own, I didn't think anything of it. We made what I thought was our last run of the day, when he got the urge to go up one more time. On the way down, I got a little ahead of him, also normal...I AM the better skiier So I stopped where the trails divided and waited for him to catch up. I signaled the way we were suppose to go, but he insisted that I wait. He skiied up next to me and started to take off his skiis. My first thought was that he was going to push me into powder (we like to tackle and wrestle:)...but then he was getting down on one knee and removing a little black box from this coat. I could not believe what was happening. To be honest, it is all a big blur. I was sobbing... and I guess I forgot to say "yes", because he had to remind me. I'm still surprised that I balled like that.... I would of thought that I'd be the type to jump up and down and scream YES YES YES...but I guess not. I don't know how I skiied down without killing myself (I was shaking and my contacts were a complete blur), but we made it. My whole family was already back in the condo. When we walked in my mom asked how our last run was, and I started balling again. She said "I know, I know.." and she was crying too. Turns out, Matt had asked my dad for permission while riding on the chair lift with him the day before. My dad of course, had to tell my mom, and I have no idea how she managed to keep the secret, but she did it. She said she could hardly stand it, but knew she had to keep quiet. It was a surprise to everyone else. So we celebrated with champagne and strawberries in the hot tub and Chinese take-out. It couldn't have been more perfect. Matt knows how close I am with my family, and I'm so glad we could all enjoy the moment together. It was definitely th perfect proposal. Here's a pic. I know I look horrible...sorry, I had been skiing all day, no make-up on, my face is all blotchy from crying, my eyes are puffy and red...well you get the point My mom insisted though! Just had a thought...I'll make crop it and make it B&W...maybe then it won't look so bad

Hair Advice with Flowers... pic heavy!
SusanK replied to Mishi's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I love the hair style in the mirror picture. I wish I could do that with my hair...but I just don't have enough of it! And I agree...one, white flower would look great in your hair. -
I lived at the north end Pages del Corro, where it meets with San Vicente. I went to school at the university. I have to make time to go back!

Seems like a lot of newbies have joined the forum in the last few days! How exciting! And, I know that Belize has been mentioned more than once or twice. My aunt and uncle love Belize, and have been going every year, for several years now. I knew there was one place in particular that they absolutely love. I recently e-mailed my aunt for more info on behalf of Heidi. I thought I'd post her response on this thread...in hopes it might be helpful to some others Happy planning! Let me know if I can help further! Hi Susan! Joe and I have seen many weddings while in Belize. The only place I would recommend is where we stay. It is on the island of Ambergris Caye, at the Victoria House. It is first class, and the nicest place on the island. I think if she went on their website, they'd be sold on the place. Go to www.victoria-house.com for a better look. Stefanie spent her honeymoon there, and Shay & Michael just returned from a Christmas trip and loved it. It is a "boutique" hotel, on the beach, with a friendly, efficient staff. To get there, we fly Continental with a stop in Houston, then Belize City, and a final 15 minute flight to the island. The hotel arranges the final flight to the island for you. The weddings there are beautiful, and there is rooom most likely for all the guests they want. I positively recommend it. Nancy

At Home Receptions - with or without
SusanK replied to ~Melissa~'s topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We are doing and AHR about a month after the wedding. It'll be big (around 300 people), but I'm hoping to keep it casual...much more of a party than a reception, with a Mexican theme. I'm thinking taco bar, sangria, Corona, margaritas, etc. Our family and friends are pretty crazy, and always up for a big party, so I'm actually looking forward to it...plus I get to wear my dress twice! I think that's what I'm really most excited for! -

Question for all of you dreams brides
SusanK replied to *JillD*'s topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Almost forgot...there is a Salsa club, Azúcar, next door to Dreams (and somewhat affiliated with resort). It's a pretty nice place, but not part of the AI, I think Dreams guests get 2 free drinks, but then have to pay. They do have a DJ though. -
Question for all of you dreams brides
SusanK replied to *JillD*'s topic in General Wedding Planning Information
The resort was really very quiet when we were there last October. Maybe 50% capacity. The bars (of which there are several) were open to at least midnight, if I'm remembering correctly, but no live entertainment. I'm not sure about the 11pm thing either. I saw that someone else posted that time, and just assumed that it was probably the same at all Dreams locations, but I could be wrong. Anyway...if you are looking for a party scene...some of the popular clubs are in very easy walking distance from the hotel (just a couple of blocks). -
Bridal Bouquet- What do you think?
SusanK replied to SusanK's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Thanks for the vote of confidence everyone. I don't know why I've been so caught up on flowers the last few days, I can't tell you how many hours I've searched through pics, maybe I have some OCD tendencies ...but I feel so much better now. My next worry, is making sure they are available in Oct. in Cancun. Jenetta- I think you're right...I'll leave them as is. Jilly- I agree...my best friend had really bright flowers and her pics were absolutely amazing..that's what got me hooked on finding something tropical in that color. Glad you like the sig pic...pretty cheesy, I know, but I thought it might be good for a few laughs. By the way...that my FI's real physique -
Sarita- I'm so jealous!!! I love Sevilla. I lived there for a year while I was studying abroad. I cried all the way home when I had no choice, but to come back after the summer for my senior year. I thought for sure I'd be back after graduation, living there permanantly. I had my Spanish boyfriend, that I thought I'd marry, my job picked out, and everything. I even had the airplane tickets back. Then in May, a couple of weeks before graduation, I met my FI...and my life did a complete 180. Now, I'm back in my hometown teaching second grade to Spanish-speaking students, and in a lot of ways Sevilla is a distant memory. I love my FI, more than anything in the world, and wouldn't change a thing...but part of me can't help to wonder what life might have been I fell in love with that city...how I'd loved to go back and walk through my old neighborhood (Triana), y la juderÃa, y las plazas y los parque...y por supuesto, la calle Serpientes.....y Zara (cuánto echo de menos esa tienda). And what a great time of year it is there right now...la Semana Santa and la FerÃa must be just around the corner. I still have my flamenco dress and can remember los sevillanos (although some of the pasos are beginning to fade away). The lace of my wedding dress reminded my of Spain, and I instantly knew it was the one. Sorry, I'm rambling, but reading your post has brought back a flood of memories. I can't wait to hear more about the wedding!
