    Anna, don't panic, I also asked if I brought table decor from home if the onsite coordinators would put it together if i gave them a phot/diagram of what i wanted and was told they would...I have read over and over that when you are transferred to the onsite coordinator, 6 weeks prior to your wedding, they are much easier to work with! Worst case is a small fee for not using them, check with Patricia, she is the wedding manager...I don't recall if it was her that told me or Elvy, my coordinator, but I was told it's ok. They do not have storage though so you will have to carry it all with you on the plane, bummer! I would recommend letting them know you plan to go with the basic all white that is included and let the onsite person know that you 'had the most amazing idea, and could she make it work....' then you will have an answer before you go...but really if it's chair sashes in a custom color and a table cloth what is the big deal? Apparently the onsite coordinators have a hard time saying no...or they are better trained in customer service;) GOOD LUCK!

      ok ladies, I've got a question about receptions. for those who hosted a private reception on the beach, was it ok? I'd just hate to have everyone exposed to the wind all night. is it a factor or a non-issue?

       

      also, I emailed JHarris to find out about the semi-private venues, but has anyone had their reception, welcome dinner or rehearsal dinner at one of the restaurants? which would you recommend and why?

       

      there's another beach reception going on during ours, so I'm thinking it'd even be odd if we tried to host it at Pelicanos. we have a small family group, and I just don't want to get blown out by someone's rowdy party down the way.

       

      for brides who have either been married at the royal or who have attended weddings there, any advice??

        Hi Kelly,

         

        Wind factor: it depends on the weather, most of the time, it is not too windy on the beach.  However, it is not very pleasant if it gets too windy.

        Semi-private venues: If you have a large group (more than 20+), and you really want to eat together for a welcome dinner, semi-private venue reception is the way to go.

        Pros: eat together

        Cons: Everyone eats the same thing, and extra cost

        I had a small group and we had dinner together almost every night, the restos put tables together for us.  No extra cost for us (hubby was against the idea of paying extra for meals in an AI resort) and everyone can order their dishes.

        2 wedding receptions on the same beach: the distance is ok between the Pelicanos and the Gazebo beach, and you will be so into the moment that you won't notice the other wedding down the way.

          Hi Kelly, it was very windy on the day of my wedding, VERY!  However the 10 days that we were there it was the only day that was like that.  The good thing about the wind is that it kept everyone cool and the heat didn't get to use too much.

           

          My beach reception turned out great, someone did mention to me that towards the end of the night sand was blowing up onto the lounge furniture but I didn't even notice.  The only issue with the wind is that our hair didn't last as long as it normally would have but I didn't mind, we were having so much fun.
           

          We lucked out and we were the only wedding that day, it was a Sunday.  Any day of the week you are taking a chance of multiple weddings at The Royal, Wed-Sat are the busiest.

           

          Semi-private receptions are just a table set-up in one of the restaurants and you pick the menu from the banquet menu instead of the restaurant menu.  If you're not doing a DJ and have a small group it's an option.  It's definilty not private at all, you jsut look like you are eating in the restaurnt like any other resort guest.  I could be wrong but Asiana might have a more private area for semi-private receptions.

            Another question for the ladies have been to the resort - 

             

            I was wondering if it would be ok to have hair down.  I know most people do their hair  up because of the wind factor, but I hate my hair up.  Do you think it will get tangled/hot mess-y if I keep it down?  Thanks ladies!

              Kelly - I definitely recommend having a semi-private dinner at Asiana.

               

              We had our welcome dinner/rehearsal dinner there the night before the wedding.  Everyone did have to eat the same thing, but it was only around $15 a plate and we didn't mind paying that.  We also needed to have two vegetarian meals and they accommodated us with no problems.  $15 a plate is so cheap compared to a rehearsal dinner in the US!  The all inclusive drinks were included.

               

              Asiana has a room upstairs away from their downstairs dining room.  You are seated at a long table all together and you feel like you are in a private room.  The service was spectacular on this night and we had 33 people.

              Everyone had a rice paper salad, terriyaki and tempura ice cream.  Everyone LOVED the terriyaki and ice cream.

              Probably a dumb question but...

               

              ... when doing your seating chart, do you map an actual seat for your photographer/videographer/etc? I know I have to 'buy a meal' for them, but wasn't sure if they needed an actual seat.

                 Hi Ladies I am getting married the same weekend as well...actually the same day as you Christel. I am having a very small wedding but my guest have to book at the Gran Porto as well which really sucks. We live so far away from our families we thought we would get to spend a week with them @ The Royal....but they had to book at the sister resort. Wish I had of known ...I would have picked a different resort ...I feel your frustration.
