  1. My wedding on April 21st at THE Royal has been cancelled, we have a couple of rooms available if anyone is scrambling for rooms there over that weekend...please let me know and I will see what I can do to put you in touch with my TA so that you can have them if you need them. :-)
  2. I highly recommend it if you are planning your wedding during peak season...I originally did not, was assured all would be fine, and then the hotel sold out....7 months before our wedding. My TA managed to find us some rooms, and we also had some next door, then we got to negotiate with The Royal about day passes, etc...save your self the headache and set it up now! I used Wendy Hicks with Wright Travel, and she was an absolute joy to work with! Thay also had a significantly lower deposit amount than other TA's I looked into...like less than HALF of what I was quoted by other Co's....
  3. I was just assigned to Denys Magana as my onsite WC....Does anyone have feedback or tips for her?? Thanks!! 30 days and counting!!!!
  4. Rehearsal Dinner...we had the same feelings, so we are taking our group of 50 "off campus" to La Cueva del Chango for a full dinner and drinks for about $30 per person...change of scenery, change of food, and we got to select multiple appetizers, 3 main entrees and desserts....also included is beer, wine and house margaritas....and I have a friend who lived in playa and said its a cute spot they used to frequesnt for brunch with good food...the atmosphere looks good, outdoor patio seating, lots of greenery, and the price was sensational for a group of our size...something to consider. :-)
  5. I will be watching to see what you get quoted...I selected Cymbidium orchids too....and peonies...and hydrangeas....apparently the top of the price scale with flowers, LOL.... I am curious what this will cost from the other florist too, though I hate to drop Marvin so late in the game, he has been creating mock-ups for me the past couple of weeks and they are GORGEOUS!
  6. Ok former brides...we are finalizing Menu's and decided that buffet style is easiest to accomodate various dietary restrictions of my honey's family....has any tried the Mexican or Yucatan and what did you like or not like about them? Thanks!!! Also, has anyone asked if it's possible to mix and match? Both look really good, but having part of each would be heavenly! Thansk!
  7. Maybe you can tell them that your photographer captures stills through film and digital, in the form of 'streaming photography' aka video??? worth a shot. That is rediculous, I would calmly tell them that it is unacceptable and work on speaking with the hotel GM... Believe me, I was going through the same thing, and seriously looking into alternatives to move everything 2 months ago, my wedding was falling apart before my eyes and I was half way across the country with no access to anyone that I had been working with since my WC was on maternity leave...) ....but I kept trying to work with them, my TA got involved, I called the GM, I called the GM's assistant and I didnt give up until they treated me like a bride and not a bank account....I can tell you that things have gotten MUCH better, everyone at THE Royal is now very nice, they listen and have tried to work with us on things instead of against us. Persistence does pay off, but be calm and assertive and don't let them push you around....this is YOUR day! You do have to play by their rules, but they have the power to make the final desicions on what to charge you for...GOOD LUCK!!
  8. My TA highly recommended the XPlore group...they have zip-lining, cenote hike/swim, ATV's, and much more...she was there in December for an awards banquet and e-mailed me to tell me just how much fun it was...something for everyone. :-)
  9. Awww, you have officially become a member of THE Royal brides club!! All I can say, is once you get past the disappointment, the wedding will go on, and no one will know what you had planned, except those that you already told...if any...maybe they will let you do wired paper laterns or tiki torches on the beach as an alternative?? You will be a gorgeous Bride, your guests will have a blast...and it IS still a third world country afterall...can we really expect the same consistency as we do in the US? GOOD LUCK!!
  10. If you can get the area by the Gazebo DO IT! I had the same thoughts about the beach, and we have some folks that just aren't interested in battling the evening winds and sand flying everywhere...so we are doing a cocktail hour at the ceremony site on the sand, then moving the party inside for dinner/cake/dancing. They cut the ballrooms down to fit your group, so they won't feel ginormous...I thought about that too! Check out some of the photos links if you can, many brides have posted reception photos in the 'smaller' ballrooms...ALSO, since it is a July wedding, the A/C might be nice after the ceremony...from what I understand it is Sticky hot 24-7 in the summer months....kinda gross if everyone is dancing...and sweating like piggies! HAHA.... good luck!!
  11. DITTO!! Juan Navarro Dorremix Spa Except the videographer, we don't have that on the agenda right now... :-) Hair and make-up, the plan is the Spa, but a gf of mine is a hair stylist AND does make-up, so if she can make it, she will be taking care of this for us. :-)
  12. If I had a dollar for every change so far, or unkept promise, or "No" I could pay for my wedding AND Honeymoon!! I am really surprised at all the awesome comments about weddings at THE Royal, because the experience has made me want to run to the courthouse and forget the wedding, LOL!!! I can't imagine that there isnt some basis for all the Love for THE Royal, and recently they have really been trying to work with us to make things run smoothly, thank goodness! Marvin IS Expensive, but not as expensive as THE Royal...and keep in mind, flowers that are pricy here, are even more so there...I really wanted Peonies in my bouquet, but at $20 stem (and $2-300 for a bouquet), I'm over it...it's in my hands for an hour or so, and THAT'S IT! The DJ is expensive too, waaay more than here...but maybe that's because we have so many friends that spin in clubs so I'm out of touch? The Bottom line: The location is AMAZING, the drinks will be flowing (to take the edge off), the beach is GORGEOUS, and (most of) your friends and family will BE THERE....everything else is just fluff. :-)
  13. You should definitely check in with the wedding department, I was told that Pelicanos cannot accomodate more than 60 guests for a reception...we were unsure about our final head count so they moved us to North Beach in front of the GP....its much larger and can handle up to 100.....
  14. Get a Travel Agent if you havent already!!! I am using Wendy at Wright Travel, found her late in the game but she has been BEYOND amazing!! The Royal is quickly gaining in popularity, and the rooms are booking up very far in advance....she can hold rooms for a low deposit and of all the TA"s I spoke with she was the most responsive and tranparent when it comes to fees, dates, deadlines, etc. :-)
  15. Mrs G511, I feel your pain!!! Rest assured, I re-read all the fine print for Real Resort wedding, and you DO NOT have to pay more for guest staying at The Gran Porto...I thought that as well, and was thinking about calling the whole thing off, but then I called and double checked, and ALL REAL RESORTS guests are priced the same, Royal OR Gran Porto....thank goodness!! It is definetely going to be a busy weekend, and a very fun one too!!! :-)
  16. Anna, don't panic, I also asked if I brought table decor from home if the onsite coordinators would put it together if i gave them a phot/diagram of what i wanted and was told they would...I have read over and over that when you are transferred to the onsite coordinator, 6 weeks prior to your wedding, they are much easier to work with! Worst case is a small fee for not using them, check with Patricia, she is the wedding manager...I don't recall if it was her that told me or Elvy, my coordinator, but I was told it's ok. They do not have storage though so you will have to carry it all with you on the plane, bummer! I would recommend letting them know you plan to go with the basic all white that is included and let the onsite person know that you 'had the most amazing idea, and could she make it work....' then you will have an answer before you go...but really if it's chair sashes in a custom color and a table cloth what is the big deal? Apparently the onsite coordinators have a hard time saying no...or they are better trained in customer service;) GOOD LUCK!
  17. Thank you all! This forum is awesome and makes me feel like I'm not going it alone!! It's nice to find a place with so many helpful people to share ideas, contacts and spread the love!,
  18. Wendy, any chance you have access to rooms at The Royal for the weekend of April 20-21st??? The Hotel is sold out and recommended that I seek the help of a TA.... yikes!!! Thanks!! [email protected]
  19. If you could share your TA's info, it would be greatly appreciated!! I am completely at a loss at this point. :-(
  20. I was told, via e-mail, they CANNOT accomodate me foir the wedding that has already been planned. AWESOME. The Royal is officially on my $#&! list
  21. Thanks Ladies, I appreciate the ideas, I have a call into the GM...or his assistant anyway since he is on vacation...we are trying to lock down 20 rooms at the Royal, and if we can manage it the rest of our guest will have to book across the street...I am suppossed to hear something later today....the time share thing was a huge eye opener, and I know many brides have over reserved for the weekend, soooooo ANY BRIDES WITH EXTRA ROOMS FOR THAT WEEKEND THAT YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE UP, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! Thank you in advance!! I am mostly disappointed that I wasn't notified that things were filling up so quickly by Patricia in the wedding department (since Elvy is on Maternity leave)....AND that they started booking people across the street WITHOUT telling them what they were doing.... I will definitely keep you all posted as additional details become available....I am hopeful they will live up to their winning reputation on this one!
