It isn't a matter of requesting areas for pictures. But there were certain areas that I really wanted to have photos done, one of which was the pier. Their stupid system let me book the pier in the first place, but then they emailed that the system shouldn't have let me do that and it wasn't available. But now we can't have any photos there at all because the wedding that is also taking the Zky Terrace is having their cocktail stuff on the pier. So we got messed up for both locations. We can only have our renewal at 5 pm because there is a wedding before us, unless we want to go at like 1pm, which is a no go. Then we can't even do pre-ceremony photos on the pier because they're going to be setting up by 3:30 pm for the cocktails that the Zky Terrace wedding is going to have. The terrace is pretty but even the Sky Deck is booked so we can't even go up there. I do NOT want to go down to the beach and have a bunch of people staring so the garden is out but I want water background for sure. Plus we found out that being stuck with a 5 pm time means we get all of about an hour for photos before the sun sets at about 6:20. I want sunset shots, but I don't want to be pressured for everything else before hand. Plus as suspected, because we have a small group, in order to get something private we have to pay for a minimum of 16. That's pretty much double what our number will be.

The resort looks beautiful for staying there, but the whole thing has just left me with a bad taste. I'm already looking into other options.

I agree that it is frustrating that us Canadian brides do not receive a lot of perks but after speaking with the Karisma rep in Toronto he explained why that is. We're really getting a much better deal on our travel packages than what the American brides have to pay. Their prices for hotel only are a lot higher and then you have to add on air fare on top of that. Transat being the only tour operator has done a lot to bring down the prices to make it more affordable for Canadians. The Karisma rep was telling me that even booking a package through him with a friends and family discount would still cost you more than getting a package through transat with a GIWC. He said that he can only get a discount on the hotel price, once you factor in the cost of the airfare the price just hits the roof. That made me feel better about the perks I'm missing out on. At least I know I have a really good price for my guests.

@@TinkerSofi did I read somewhere that you're doing one of the memorable moments collections? The Vintage Elegance? The Karisma rep said that they just changed it so that if you're doing a memorable moments collection you get the basic Always and Forever package for free. I don't know if you have to be doing the collection for both the ceremony and reception or if it can just be one or the other. It's something you should look into you....saving that $950 would be great!!

@acw271011 My photographer has done a couple of weddings at Azul Fives and he said there are some really beautiful spots to take photos in their new sections where they did all the upgrades. I don't think you need to book any spaces for photos unless it is a ceremony or reception location.

Those are excellent news!! I'll look into it. Making the ceremony package free would be a huge help and I'd be super happy with it . But I'm not getting my hopes up yet as you might need to book their package for the ceremony and that's way too much money. I'll let you know what happens

I'm not really sure what the difference would be. I've only ever dealt with the WCs through Karisma (designers email). I would imagine though you would have better success just dealing with your WC. I think if you were dealing with Lomas directly it would still have to go through your WC at Karisma as Lomas is the vendor separate from the Karisma chain. This is my guess though...don't quote me on it.  ;)

If you have an idea of what you want for flowers, send some pics to your WC and describe what you are looking for. I am getting my bouquet included with my decor package and pre-selected one of the Lomas options but then decided I wanted to make some changes to it. I emailed my WC with the inspiration photos I had and they are putting something together for me and keeping my pics on file for reference.

@@Smellsey I think it depends on what you are looking for. In my case my additions weren't too drastic (they are all flowers that are in season that they usually use and in a similar price range) so she made the changes with no extra charge. I originally chose from their options online - white tropical flower & light blue delphinium flowers. The more I looked at it the more the picture of it online was bugging me. It just seemed like a really outdated photo. The white flowers looked yellow to me. I also wanted to add in a splash of light pink (as I have some light pink accents).

I described what I was looking for and my WC came back saying they have a bouquet option that is very similar. I brought up my concerns about the colours looking off and she said that the photos on the Lomas website really don't do the bouquets justice. She ended up sending me additional photos of the flowers and they looked WAY better. I essentially just changed it to ivory and light pink roses with light blue delphinium flowers. It was that drastic of a change but at least they are willing to work with you on finding what you want.

I think the only issue you might encounter is if you want flowers that are not in season and hard to find in Mexico. I would then maybe suggest getting 'real touch' flowers. Before I sorted my bouquet options out I was thinking of getting a small back up 'real touch' bouquet just in case. I've heard many brides use them before and were really happy with the final product. You would also have a keepsake afterwards with fake ones.  :)

Hi Ladies,

Throughout the past few weeks I have read every post in this thread - If I missed the answer to the question I am about to ask, please forgive me.

We are inches away from booking our May-April 2016 DW at Azul Fives. Last night my MIL called and said "I heard the nightlife is terrible at a Azul Fives and they don't even put on good shows". I get that I am not going to make EVERYONE happy and trust me, I am not even going to trying to. I picked this resort for a 1000 other great reasons but looking back, I don't know too much about what the evenings look like.

My TA said the nightlife is great. She has been multiple times with her husband and on seperate trips with her girlfriends and they said they spent a ton of time at the club because they loved it. Does anyone have any feedback in terms of the nightlife? My fiance and I love a good party...we don't go "clubbing" very often anymore, nor was that ever really my scene, but we love a good night out with our friends. A good night for us is a pub with live music with the drinks flowing.

What about the evening shows? My TA said they have an indoor cinema type theatre but she said she never went as they wanted to be outside as much as possible. I've heard they do movie nights on the beach as well. What else is there in the evenings to look forward to and to pre-occupy my guests? *read: what can I tell my MIL to get her off my back?*

Again, I apologize if I have missed this in a previous post. I hope you ladies can help me out!

Thanks! xx

@@vivitazy it is not free for Canadians. I believe it is free if you book a memorable moments package.

@@snswedding2016 Thanks. I bought real touch flowers for the flowers hanging behind the gazebo and for the ceremony aisle runners. I think I am going to go with real flowers for the bouquets and centerpieces. I figure those flowers are the ones that are closer to people's faces lol.

@@ashhtayy I heard from a ton of people that the nightlife was awesome. I wonder where she read this? What kind of things does she want to do?

@@Smellsey she heard it from someone at her place of work that visited AF a year ago. They didn't like the bars and didn't like that there weren't any shows. I get it, what one person likes is not necessary what another will like but I have read many more good reviews than bad.

My MIL was just disappointed to hear there would be no shows in the evening - she doesn't care too much for the bar scene.

What I haven't heard much about is evening entertainment. When you go to larger resorts they have shows every night - is this the case here with it being a "smaller" resort? My TA is getting back to me with some information and I will post here when I get it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
