dress on the plane advice

The people on skyservice were really wonderful. It is the tiniest plane I have been on, absolutely no room and we had 3 bride on our flight. People wee really great about not putting anything on our dresses in the overhead, and the stewerd even offered to put it in the overhead for me. I rolled my wedding dress like a sleeping bad, really loosely, and then tied it. There were no wrinkles in it by the time I arrived at the hotel.

I have been worrying about the same thing. I hadn't thought of peoples coats etc. being in the overhead compartment. I am flying with 10 friends so I'm sure they will help me figure it out.

This topic has also been discussed in-depth in several other threads -- which is when I first even THOUGHT about it. ugh. But it sounds from those threads as though most airlines are veryeasy to work with and many even give you a complimentary upgrade to First Class when possible when they recognizt the rbide and groom.

 

I am going to take a personal steamer with me (the small handheld kind) and my Mom is going to work out wrinkles that may have taken shape. But, if youhang the dress in a friends/family room upon arrival, the wrinkles will likely fall out on their own.

 

I have a sheer overlay on my dress, along with the crinolin, etc ... and it's all wadded up in the garmet bag, but whenever I take it out to try it on, it's hardly wrinkled at all.

 

So, I think as long as we are as careful as possible with our dresses, that we will be pleasantly surprised -- even if they do have to go in the overhaed compartments.

I didn't know where else to post this and this is an older thread. I just got my dress back from alterations and they put this I don't know what it is cardboard thing like fake boobs (haha) in the top of the dress. Can I take this out? I was wondering b/c it makes it bulky to carry the dress and I was wondering about carrying it around the airport and such. Did anyone else have this and did you take it out? Will it mess up the steaming and wrinkle my dress?

As a former flight attendant, I will tell you that a lot of times the pilot's closet is REALLY REALLY tiny (just big enough for his and the co-pilot's briefcases and jackets). Most air crew will advise putting it in the seat next to you or in an overhead bin.

They have no ideahow full the plane is going to be with their crew stuff, so you won't know til you get on the plane. I am sure they will try to work it out with you though, provided they have the room for it.

I have flown with crews that seemed like we packed for weeks on end, and other crews where we barely had anything except for our suitcases ,and coats.

I like Kelly's idea of rolling it like a sleeping bag. That's usually how I pack my t shirts in my suit case.

 

I would definitley steam it when you get to Mexico. I doubt it would cost very much(mine was included with my wedding package)

I had to put mine in the overhead bin. I was so afraid of it not fitting and having to check it. My mom packed it up for me in a horse saddle bag she had. It looked like I was carrying around a comforter or something, haha. It was a little wrinkled, but it made it fine and the resort did a great job pressing it.

Hi gals, I work for a major airline in Seattle (not gonna say which one in this post cause I'm not trying to advertise!!!) but what we offer to passengers is for you to actually buy a seat for your dress, ensuring that you will have the space to lay it out. We call it "cabin seat baggage". The ticket for the dress would just be Smith/Weddingdress (your last name/first name "Weddingdress"). Maybe the charter airline offers the same service

Unfortunately you do have to buy a ticket at the regular fare (whatever is lowest at the time) but that way you will have the space... I think personally I'm going to either get a dress from a destination wedding line (like from Alfred Angelo) that is packable, or just do the sleeping-bag roll trick.

I had the same dilema and anxiety when I flew Air Jamaica to our wedding. I did not want to let the dress or my husbands's tux out of sight. The airline would not put our dress and tux in the closet (they had a bad attitude that day for some reason) so we put it in the overhead compartment directly above us. It was fine and the resort steamed our dress and tux before the wedding.
